بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍۢ وَاقِعٍۢ
سَأَلَsa-alaAskedسَآئِلٌۢsāiluna questionerبِعَذَابٍۢbiʿadhābinabout a punishmentوَاقِعٍۢwāqiʿinbound to happen
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen
⤳ Link 70:1
2
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌۭ
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnaTo the disbelieversلَيْسَlaysanotلَهُۥlahuof itدَافِعٌۭdāfiʿunany preventer
To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer
⤳ Link 70:2
3
مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
مِّنَminaFromٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahذِىdhīOwnerٱلْمَعَارِجِl-maʿāriji(of) the ways of ascent
[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent
⤳ Link 70:3
4
تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍۢ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍۢ
تَعْرُجُtaʿrujuAscendٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angelsوَٱلرُّوحُwal-rūḥuand the Spiritإِلَيْهِilayhito Himفِىinيَوْمٍۢyawmina Dayكَانَkāna[is]مِقْدَارُهُۥmiq'dāruhuits measureخَمْسِينَkhamsīna(is) fiftyأَلْفَalfathousandسَنَةٍۢsanatinyear(s)
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years
⤳ Link 70:4
5
فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًۭا جَمِيلًا
فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patientصَبْرًۭاṣabrana patienceجَمِيلًاjamīlangood
So be patient with gracious patience
⤳ Link 70:5
6
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًۭا
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, theyيَرَوْنَهُۥyarawnahusee itبَعِيدًۭاbaʿīdan(as) far off
Indeed, they see it [as] distant
⤳ Link 70:6
7
وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًۭا
وَنَرَىٰهُwanarāhuBut We see itقَرِيبًۭاqarībannear
But We see it [as] near
⤳ Link 70:7
8
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
يَوْمَyawma(The) Day تَكُونُtakūnuwill beٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe skyكَٱلْمُهْلِkal-muh'lilike molten copper
On the Day the sky will be like murky oil
⤳ Link 70:8
9
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
وَتَكُونُwatakūnuAnd will beٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsكَٱلْعِهْنِkal-ʿih'nilike wool
And the mountains will be like wool
⤳ Link 70:9
10
وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًۭا
وَلَاwalāAnd notيَسْـَٔلُyasaluwill askحَمِيمٌḥamīmuna friendحَمِيمًۭاḥamīman(about) a friend
And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend
⤳ Link 70:10
11
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚyubaṣṣarūnahumThey will be made to see each otherيَوَدُّyawadduWould wishٱلْمُجْرِمُl-muj'rimuthe criminalلَوْlawifيَفْتَدِىyaftadīhe (could be) ransomedمِنْminfromعَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishmentيَوْمِئِذٍۭyawmi-idhin(of) that Dayبِبَنِيهِbibanīhiby his children
They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children
⤳ Link 70:11
12
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦwaṣāḥibatihiAnd his spouseوَأَخِيهِwa-akhīhiand his brother
And his wife and his brother
⤳ Link 70:12
13
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
وَفَصِيلَتِهِwafaṣīlatihiAnd his nearest kindredٱلَّتِىallatīwhoتُـْٔوِيهِtu'wīhisheltered him
And his nearest kindred who shelter him
⤳ Link 70:13
14
وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
وَمَنwamanAnd whoeverفِى(is) onٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthجَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanallثُمَّthummathenيُنجِيهِyunjīhiit (could) save him
And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him
⤳ Link 70:14
15
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
كَلَّآ ۖkallāBy no meansإِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed, it (is)لَظَىٰlaẓāsurely a Flame of Hell
No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell]
⤳ Link 70:15
16
نَزَّاعَةًۭ لِّلشَّوَىٰ
نَزَّاعَةًۭnazzāʿatanA removerلِّلشَّوَىٰlilshawāof the skin of the head
A remover of exteriors
⤳ Link 70:16
17
تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
تَدْعُوا۟tadʿūInvitingمَنْman(him) whoأَدْبَرَadbaraturned his backوَتَوَلَّىٰwatawallāand went away
It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]
⤳ Link 70:17
18
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
وَجَمَعَwajamaʿaAnd collectedفَأَوْعَىٰٓfa-awʿāand hoarded
And collected [wealth] and hoarded
⤳ Link 70:18
19
۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
۞ إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānathe manخُلِقَkhuliqawas createdهَلُوعًاhalūʿananxious
Indeed, mankind was created anxious
⤳ Link 70:19
20
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًۭا
إِذَاidhāWhenمَسَّهُmassahutouches himٱلشَّرُّl-sharuthe evilجَزُوعًۭاjazūʿandistressed
When evil touches him, impatient
⤳ Link 70:20
21
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenمَسَّهُmassahutouches himٱلْخَيْرُl-khayruthe goodمَنُوعًاmanūʿanwithholding
And when good touches him, withholding [of it]
⤳ Link 70:21
22
إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
إِلَّاillāExceptٱلْمُصَلِّينَl-muṣalīnathose who pray
Except the observers of prayer
⤳ Link 70:22
23
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoهُمْhum[they]عَلَىٰʿalāatصَلَاتِهِمْṣalātihimtheir prayerدَآئِمُونَdāimūna(are) constant
Those who are constant in their prayer
⤳ Link 70:23
24
وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّۭ مَّعْلُومٌۭ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoفِىٓinأَمْوَٰلِهِمْamwālihimtheir wealthحَقٌّۭḥaqqun(is) a rightمَّعْلُومٌۭmaʿlūmunknown
And those within whose wealth is a known right
⤳ Link 70:24
25
لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
لِّلسَّآئِلِlilssāiliFor the one who asksوَٱلْمَحْرُومِwal-maḥrūmiand the deprived
For the petitioner and the deprived
⤳ Link 70:25
26
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoيُصَدِّقُونَyuṣaddiqūnaaccept (the) truthبِيَوْمِbiyawmi(of the) Dayٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment
And those who believe in the Day of Recompense
⤳ Link 70:26
27
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمhum[they]مِّنْminofعَذَابِʿadhābi(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمrabbihim(of) their Lordمُّشْفِقُونَmush'fiqūna(are) fearful
And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord
⤳ Link 70:27
28
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍۢ
إِنَّinnaIndeedعَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) your Lordغَيْرُghayru(is) notمَأْمُونٍۢmamūninto be felt secure (of)
Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe
⤳ Link 70:28
29
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]لِفُرُوجِهِمْlifurūjihimtheir modestyحَـٰفِظُونَḥāfiẓūna(are) guardians
And those who guard their private parts
⤳ Link 70:29
30
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
إِلَّاillāExceptعَلَىٰٓʿalāfromأَزْوَٰجِهِمْazwājihimtheir spousesأَوْaworمَاwhatمَلَكَتْmalakatthey possessأَيْمَـٰنُهُمْaymānuhumrightfullyفَإِنَّهُمْfa-innahumthen indeed, theyغَيْرُghayru(are) notمَلُومِينَmalūmīnablameworthy
Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed
⤳ Link 70:30
31
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
فَمَنِfamaniBut whoeverٱبْتَغَىٰib'taghāseeksوَرَآءَwarāabeyondذَٰلِكَdhālikathatفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseهُمُhumu[they]ٱلْعَادُونَl-ʿādūna(are) the transgressors
But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors
⤳ Link 70:31
32
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْli-amānātihimof their trustsوَعَهْدِهِمْwaʿahdihimand their promiseرَٰعُونَrāʿūna(are) observers
And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive
⤳ Link 70:32
33
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمhum[they]بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْbishahādātihimin their testimoniesقَآئِمُونَqāimūnastand firm
And those who are in their testimonies upright
⤳ Link 70:33
34
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoهُمْhum[they]عَلَىٰʿalāonصَلَاتِهِمْṣalātihimtheir prayerيُحَافِظُونَyuḥāfiẓūnakeep a guard
And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer
⤳ Link 70:34
35
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍۢ مُّكْرَمُونَ
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThoseفِى(will be) inجَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātinGardensمُّكْرَمُونَmuk'ramūnahonored
They will be in gardens, honored
⤳ Link 70:35
36
فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
فَمَالِfamāliSo what is withٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveقِبَلَكَqibalakabefore youمُهْطِعِينَmuh'ṭiʿīna(they) hasten
So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad]
⤳ Link 70:36
37
عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
عَنِʿaniOnٱلْيَمِينِl-yamīnithe rightوَعَنِwaʿaniand onٱلشِّمَالِl-shimālithe leftعِزِينَʿizīna(in) separate groups
[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups
⤳ Link 70:37
38
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍۢ
أَيَطْمَعُayaṭmaʿuDoes longكُلُّkullueveryٱمْرِئٍۢim'ri-inpersonمِّنْهُمْmin'humamong themأَنanthatيُدْخَلَyud'khalahe entersجَنَّةَjannataa Gardenنَعِيمٍۢnaʿīmin(of) Delight
Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure
⤳ Link 70:38
39
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
كَلَّآ ۖkallāBy no meansإِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weخَلَقْنَـٰهُمkhalaqnāhum[We] have created themمِّمَّاmimmāfrom whatيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey know
No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know
⤳ Link 70:39
40
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
فَلَآfalāBut nayأُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِرَبِّbirabbiby (the) Lordٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِl-mashāriqi(of) the risingsوَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِwal-maghāribiand the settingsإِنَّاinnāthat Weلَقَـٰدِرُونَlaqādirūna(are) surely Able
So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able
⤳ Link 70:40
41
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًۭا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
عَلَىٰٓʿalā[On]أَنantoنُّبَدِّلَnubaddila[We] replaceخَيْرًۭاkhayran(with) betterمِّنْهُمْmin'humthan themوَمَاwamāand notنَحْنُnaḥnuWeبِمَسْبُوقِينَbimasbūqīna(are) to be outrun
To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone
⤳ Link 70:41
42
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
فَذَرْهُمْfadharhumSo leave themيَخُوضُوا۟yakhūḍū(to) converse vainlyوَيَلْعَبُوا۟wayalʿabūand amuse themselvesحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilيُلَـٰقُوا۟yulāqūthey meetيَوْمَهُمُyawmahumutheir Dayٱلَّذِىalladhīwhichيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnathey are promised
So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised
⤳ Link 70:42
43
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًۭا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍۢ يُوفِضُونَ
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيَخْرُجُونَyakhrujūnathey will come outمِنَminafromٱلْأَجْدَاثِl-ajdāthithe gravesسِرَاعًۭاsirāʿanrapidlyكَأَنَّهُمْka-annahumas if they (were)إِلَىٰilātoنُصُبٍۢnuṣubina goalيُوفِضُونَyūfiḍūnahastening
The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening
⤳ Link 70:43
44
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌۭ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
خَـٰشِعَةًkhāshiʿatanHumbledأَبْصَـٰرُهُمْabṣāruhumtheir eyesightsتَرْهَقُهُمْtarhaquhumwill cover themذِلَّةٌۭ ۚdhillatunhumiliationذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatٱلْيَوْمُl-yawmu(is) the Dayٱلَّذِىalladhīwhichكَانُوا۟kānūthey wereيُوعَدُونَyūʿadūnapromised
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised
