Each page answers one question — when is it? — with the expected date, a countdown, the surrounding years, and how the date is set.
How these dates are set
The Islamic calendar is purely lunar: twelve months of 29 or 30 days that begin with the birth of the new moon, making a year of 354 or 355 days — about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. The dates on these pages use the Umm al-Qura calculation, the official Islamic calendar of Saudi Arabia and the calendar behind this site's Hijri calendar converter.
Communities that rely on physical moon sighting, or that follow a different country's announcement, may begin a month a day earlier or later — the gap lands exactly where precision matters most: the start and end of Ramadan, and the Eids. Plan by estimate; confirm by your local announcement.
