How the dates are set
The Hijri month begins with the birth of the new moon and runs 29 or 30 days, so its middle days — the 13th, 14th, and 15th — always carry a full or nearly full moon. A Hijri year of twelve such months is 354 or 355 days, about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, which is why each month's White Days land about eleven days earlier than the month before them in Gregorian terms.
The Gregorian dates here come from the Umm al-Qura calculation — the official Islamic calendar of Saudi Arabia and the calendar this site's Hijri calendar converter uses. Communities that set months by physical moon sighting keep the same Hijri dates but may begin the month a day later, shifting their White Days by a day. As always with Hijri dates: plan by estimate, confirm by announcement.
Frequently asked questions
What are the White Days?
The 13th, 14th, and 15th of each Hijri month — days many Muslims fast. They fall in the middle of the lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest and the nights brightest, which gives them their Arabic name, Ayyam al-Bid (the white days).
When are the White Days this month?
For Rabi al-Awwal 1448 AH, they are expected on 26 Aug 2026, 27 Aug 2026, and 28 Aug 2026. The live table at the top recomputes them in your browser from the Umm al-Qura calendar.
Do the White Days change every month?
They are fixed in the Hijri calendar (13–15 of every month), so their Gregorian dates shift with each lunar month — about 29.5 days apart, and about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.
