Why it matters
A journey by night.
Allah took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, to show him some of His signs.
That night the five daily prayers were given. They began as fifty, and were made five, each counted as ten.
Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

When Quraysh did not believe him, Allah showed him Jerusalem, and he described it to them while looking at it.
This date is set by the Islamic lunar calendar, not the Gregorian one. Rajab is the seventh month of the twelve Hijri months, and each Hijri month runs 29 or 30 days, beginning with the birth of the new moon. Twelve lunar months make a year of 354 or 355 days — about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year — so the same Islamic date lands about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.
The Gregorian date shown is the Umm al-Qura calculation: the official Islamic calendar of Saudi Arabia, built from astronomical calculation of the new moon, and the calendar this site's Hijri calendar converter uses. Other communities wait for the new crescent to be seen with the eye, or follow a different country's announcement — so the day your community actually observes can sit a day either side of the estimate. Because the Islamic day begins at sunset, the date begins the evening before the Gregorian day shown.
The marking date is fixed in the Hijri calendar at 27 Rajab. For 1448, with 1 Rajab expected on Thursday 10 December 2026, the 27th falls on Tuesday 5 January 2027, and the night begins at sunset on Monday 4 January. Communities that begin Rajab a day later keep 27 Rajab but observe it on Wednesday 6 January instead. The Hijri date is a marking date only: no authentic report gives the date or the year of this night, and scholars differ on it.
Isra and Mi'raj 2027 around the years
The same Hijri date, three cycles running. The Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so each cycle lands earlier in the Gregorian calendar.

Frequently asked questions
When is Isra and Mi'raj in 2027?
Many Muslims mark it on 27 Rajab 1448 AH, which is expected to fall on Tuesday 5 January 2027 (Umm al-Qura), with the night beginning the evening before, Monday 4 January. Scholars differ on the date — no authentic report gives the date or the year of this night — and some Muslims do not mark it at all.
Why do Isra and Mi'raj dates differ between communities?
For two reasons. The Hijri calendar runs about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so 27 Rajab lands earlier each Gregorian year and moon sighting can move it by a day. Beyond that, the marking date itself differs: many Muslims mark 27 Rajab, others do not mark the night at all, because no authentic report gives its date.
When was Isra and Mi'raj in 2026, and when is it in 2028?
On the same 27-Rajab reckoning: on or around 16 January 2026 for 1447, and 25 December 2027 for 1449.
