Surah 76 of 114 · Madani
سُورَةُ الإِنسَانِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ حِينٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًۭٔا مَّذْكُورًا
هَلْhalHasأَتَىٰatā(there) comeعَلَىʿalāuponٱلْإِنسَـٰنِl-insānimanحِينٌۭḥīnuna periodمِّنَminaofٱلدَّهْرِl-dahritimeلَمْlamnotيَكُنyakunhe wasشَيْـًۭٔاshayana thingمَّذْكُورًاmadhkūranmentioned
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned

76:1
2
إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍۢ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weخَلَقْنَاkhalaqnā[We] createdٱلْإِنسَـٰنَl-insānamanمِنminfromنُّطْفَةٍnuṭ'fatina semen-dropأَمْشَاجٍۢamshājina mixtureنَّبْتَلِيهِnabtalīhi(that) We test himفَجَعَلْنَـٰهُfajaʿalnāhuso We made (for) himسَمِيعًۢاsamīʿanhearingبَصِيرًاbaṣīranand sight
Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing

76:2
3
إِنَّا هَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًۭا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weهَدَيْنَـٰهُhadaynāhuguided himٱلسَّبِيلَl-sabīla(to) the wayإِمَّاimmāwhetherشَاكِرًۭاshākiran(he) be gratefulوَإِمَّاwa-immāand whetherكَفُورًاkafūran(he) be ungrateful
Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful

76:3
4
إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ سَلَـٰسِلَا۟ وَأَغْلَـٰلًۭا وَسَعِيرًا
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, Weأَعْتَدْنَاaʿtadnā[We] have preparedلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَlil'kāfirīnafor the disbelieversسَلَـٰسِلَا۟salāsilāchainsوَأَغْلَـٰلًۭاwa-aghlālanand shacklesوَسَعِيرًاwasaʿīranand a Blazing Fire
Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze

76:4
5
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍۢ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلْأَبْرَارَl-abrārathe righteousيَشْرَبُونَyashrabūnawill drinkمِنminfromكَأْسٍۢkasina cupكَانَkānaisمِزَاجُهَاmizājuhāits mixtureكَافُورًاkāfūran(of) Kafur
Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur

76:5
6
عَيْنًۭا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ ٱللَّهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفْجِيرًۭا
عَيْنًۭاʿaynanA spring يَشْرَبُyashrabuwill drinkبِهَاbihāfrom itعِبَادُʿibādu(the) slavesٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahيُفَجِّرُونَهَاyufajjirūnahācausing it to gush forthتَفْجِيرًۭاtafjīranabundantly
A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]

76:6
7
يُوفُونَ بِٱلنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًۭا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسْتَطِيرًۭا
يُوفُونَyūfūnaThey fulfillبِٱلنَّذْرِbil-nadhrithe vowsوَيَخَافُونَwayakhāfūnaand fearيَوْمًۭاyawmana Day كَانَkāna(which) isشَرُّهُۥsharruhuits evilمُسْتَطِيرًۭاmus'taṭīranwidespread
They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread

76:7
8
وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسْكِينًۭا وَيَتِيمًۭا وَأَسِيرًا
وَيُطْعِمُونَwayuṭ'ʿimūnaAnd they feedٱلطَّعَامَl-ṭaʿāmathe foodعَلَىٰʿalāin spite ofحُبِّهِۦḥubbihilove (for) itمِسْكِينًۭاmis'kīnan(to the) needyوَيَتِيمًۭاwayatīmanand (the) orphanوَأَسِيرًاwa-asīranand (the) captive
And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive

9
إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَآءًۭ وَلَا شُكُورًا
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyنُطْعِمُكُمْnuṭ'ʿimukumwe feed youلِوَجْهِliwajhifor (the) Countenanceٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahلَاlāNotنُرِيدُnurīduwe desireمِنكُمْminkumfrom youجَزَآءًۭjazāanany rewardوَلَاwalāand notشُكُورًاshukūranthanks
[Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude

76:9
10
إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا يَوْمًا عَبُوسًۭا قَمْطَرِيرًۭا
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, weنَخَافُnakhāfufearمِنminfromرَّبِّنَاrabbināour Lordيَوْمًاyawmana Day عَبُوسًۭاʿabūsanharshقَمْطَرِيرًۭاqamṭarīranand distressful
Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful

76:10
11
فَوَقَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمْ نَضْرَةًۭ وَسُرُورًۭا
فَوَقَىٰهُمُfawaqāhumuBut will protect themٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahشَرَّsharra(from the) evilذَٰلِكَdhālika(of) thatٱلْيَوْمِl-yawmiDayوَلَقَّىٰهُمْwalaqqāhumand will cause them to meetنَضْرَةًۭnaḍratanradianceوَسُرُورًۭاwasurūranand happiness
So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness

76:11
12
وَجَزَىٰهُم بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ جَنَّةًۭ وَحَرِيرًۭا
وَجَزَىٰهُمwajazāhumAnd will reward themبِمَاbimābecauseصَبَرُوا۟ṣabarūthey were patientجَنَّةًۭjannatan(with) a Gardenوَحَرِيرًۭاwaḥarīranand silk
And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]

76:12
13
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۖ لَا يَرَوْنَ فِيهَا شَمْسًۭا وَلَا زَمْهَرِيرًۭا
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīnaRecliningفِيهَاfīhāthereinعَلَىʿalāonٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۖl-arāikicouchesلَاlāNotيَرَوْنَyarawnathey will seeفِيهَاfīhāthereinشَمْسًۭاshamsansunوَلَاwalāand notزَمْهَرِيرًۭاzamharīranfreezing cold
[They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold

76:13
14
وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيْهِمْ ظِلَـٰلُهَا وَذُلِّلَتْ قُطُوفُهَا تَذْلِيلًۭا
وَدَانِيَةًwadāniyatanAnd nearعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimabove themظِلَـٰلُهَاẓilāluhā(are) its shadesوَذُلِّلَتْwadhullilatand will hang lowقُطُوفُهَاquṭūfuhāits cluster of fruitsتَذْلِيلًۭاtadhlīlandangling low
And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance

76:14
15
وَيُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِـَٔانِيَةٍۢ مِّن فِضَّةٍۢ وَأَكْوَابٍۢ كَانَتْ قَوَارِيرَا۠
وَيُطَافُwayuṭāfuAnd will be circulatedعَلَيْهِمʿalayhimamong themبِـَٔانِيَةٍۢbiāniyatinvesselsمِّنminofفِضَّةٍۢfiḍḍatinsilverوَأَكْوَابٍۢwa-akwābinand cupsكَانَتْkānat(that) areقَوَارِيرَا۠qawārīrā(of) crystal
And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass]

76:15
16
قَوَارِيرَا۟ مِن فِضَّةٍۢ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقْدِيرًۭا
قَوَارِيرَا۟qawārīrāCrystal-clearمِنminofفِضَّةٍۢfiḍḍatinsilverقَدَّرُوهَاqaddarūhāThey will determine itsتَقْدِيرًۭاtaqdīranmeasure
Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure

76:16
17
وَيُسْقَوْنَ فِيهَا كَأْسًۭا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنجَبِيلًا
وَيُسْقَوْنَwayus'qawnaAnd they will be given to drinkفِيهَاfīhāthereinكَأْسًۭاkasana cup كَانَkānaisمِزَاجُهَاmizājuhāits mixtureزَنجَبِيلًاzanjabīlan(of) Zanjabil
And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger

76:17
18
عَيْنًۭا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلْسَبِيلًۭا
عَيْنًۭاʿaynanA springفِيهَاfīhāthereinتُسَمَّىٰtusammānamedسَلْسَبِيلًۭاsalsabīlanSalsabil
[From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel

76:18
19
۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌۭ مُّخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ حَسِبْتَهُمْ لُؤْلُؤًۭا مَّنثُورًۭا
۞ وَيَطُوفُwayaṭūfuAnd will circulateعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimamong themوِلْدَٰنٌۭwil'dānunyoung boysمُّخَلَّدُونَmukhalladūnamade eternalإِذَاidhāWhenرَأَيْتَهُمْra-aytahumyou see themحَسِبْتَهُمْḥasib'tahumyou would think themلُؤْلُؤًۭاlu'lu-an(to be) pearlsمَّنثُورًۭاmanthūranscattered
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls

76:19
20
وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيْتَ نَعِيمًۭا وَمُلْكًۭا كَبِيرًا
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenرَأَيْتَra-aytayou lookثَمَّthammathenرَأَيْتَra-aytayou will seeنَعِيمًۭاnaʿīmanblessingsوَمُلْكًۭاwamul'kanand a kingdomكَبِيرًاkabīrangreat
And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion

76:20
21
عَـٰلِيَهُمْ ثِيَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضْرٌۭ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٌۭ ۖ وَحُلُّوٓا۟ أَسَاوِرَ مِن فِضَّةٍۢ وَسَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ شَرَابًۭا طَهُورًا
عَـٰلِيَهُمْʿāliyahumUpon themثِيَابُthiyābu(will be) garmentsسُندُسٍsundusin(of) fine silkخُضْرٌۭkhuḍ'rungreenوَإِسْتَبْرَقٌۭ ۖwa-is'tabraqunand heavy brocadeوَحُلُّوٓا۟waḥullūAnd they will be adornedأَسَاوِرَasāwira(with) braceletsمِنminofفِضَّةٍۢfiḍḍatinsilverوَسَقَىٰهُمْwasaqāhumand will give them to drinkرَبُّهُمْrabbuhumtheir Lordشَرَابًۭاsharābana drinkطَهُورًاṭahūranpure
Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink

76:21
22
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمْ جَزَآءًۭ وَكَانَ سَعْيُكُم مَّشْكُورًا
إِنَّinnaIndeedهَـٰذَاhādhāthisكَانَkānaisلَكُمْlakumfor youجَزَآءًۭjazāana rewardوَكَانَwakānaand has beenسَعْيُكُمsaʿyukumyour effortمَّشْكُورًاmashkūranappreciated
[And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated

76:22
23
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَنزِيلًۭا
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weنَحْنُnaḥnu[We]نَزَّلْنَاnazzalnā[We] revealedعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quranتَنزِيلًۭاtanzīlanprogressively
Indeed, it is We who have sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Qur'an progressively

76:23
24
فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعْ مِنْهُمْ ءَاثِمًا أَوْ كَفُورًۭا
فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patientلِحُكْمِliḥuk'mifor (the) Commandرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُطِعْtuṭiʿobeyمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themءَاثِمًاāthimanany sinnerأَوْaworكَفُورًۭاkafūrandisbeliever
So be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever]

76:24
25
وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ بُكْرَةًۭ وَأَصِيلًۭا
وَٱذْكُرِwa-udh'kuriAnd rememberٱسْمَis'ma(the) nameرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordبُكْرَةًۭbuk'ratanmorningوَأَصِيلًۭاwa-aṣīlanand evening
And mention the name of your Lord [in prayer] morning and evening

76:25
26
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَٱسْجُدْ لَهُۥ وَسَبِّحْهُ لَيْلًۭا طَوِيلًا
وَمِنَwaminaAnd ofٱلَّيْلِal-laylithe nightفَٱسْجُدْfa-us'judprostrateلَهُۥlahuto Himوَسَبِّحْهُwasabbiḥ'huand glorify Himلَيْلًۭاlaylana nightطَوِيلًاṭawīlanlong
And during the night prostrate to Him and exalt Him a long [part of the] night

76:26
27
إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ يُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَآءَهُمْ يَوْمًۭا ثَقِيلًۭا
إِنَّinnaIndeedهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāitheseيُحِبُّونَyuḥibbūnaloveٱلْعَاجِلَةَl-ʿājilatathe immediateوَيَذَرُونَwayadharūnaand leaveوَرَآءَهُمْwarāahumbehind themيَوْمًۭاyawmana Dayثَقِيلًۭاthaqīlangrave
Indeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them a grave Day

76:27
28
نَّحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰهُمْ وَشَدَدْنَآ أَسْرَهُمْ ۖ وَإِذَا شِئْنَا بَدَّلْنَآ أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ تَبْدِيلًا
نَّحْنُnaḥnuWeخَلَقْنَـٰهُمْkhalaqnāhumcreated themوَشَدَدْنَآwashadadnāand We strengthenedأَسْرَهُمْ ۖasrahumtheir formsوَإِذَاwa-idhāand whenشِئْنَاshi'nāWe willبَدَّلْنَآbaddalnāWe can changeأَمْثَـٰلَهُمْamthālahumtheir likeness[es]تَبْدِيلًاtabdīlan(with) a change
We have created them and strengthened their forms, and when We will, We can change their likenesses with [complete] alteration

76:28
29
إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌۭ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًۭا
إِنَّinnaIndeedهَـٰذِهِۦhādhihithisتَذْكِرَةٌۭ ۖtadhkiratun(is) a reminderفَمَنfamanso whoeverشَآءَshāawillsٱتَّخَذَittakhadhalet him takeإِلَىٰilātoرَبِّهِۦrabbihihis Lordسَبِيلًۭاsabīlana way
Indeed, this is a reminder, so he who wills may take to his Lord a way

30
وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًۭا
وَمَاwamāAnd notتَشَآءُونَtashāūnayou willإِلَّآillāexceptأَنanthatيَشَآءَyashāawillsٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllahإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahكَانَkānaisعَلِيمًاʿalīmanAll-KnowerحَكِيمًۭاḥakīmanAll-Wise
And you do not will except that Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise

31
يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ وَٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۢا
يُدْخِلُyud'khiluHe admitsمَنmanwhomيَشَآءُyashāuHe willsفِىfīintoرَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚraḥmatihiHis mercyوَٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَwal-ẓālimīnabut (for) the wrongdoersأَعَدَّaʿaddaHe has preparedلَهُمْlahumfor themعَذَابًاʿadhābana punishmentأَلِيمًۢاalīmanpainful
He admits whom He wills into His mercy; but the wrongdoers - He has prepared for them a painful punishment
