Surah 77 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ المُرۡسَلَاتِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِ عُرْفًۭا
وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِwal-mur'salātiBy the ones sent forthعُرْفًۭاʿur'fanone after another
By those [winds] sent forth in gusts
⤳ Link
77:1
2
فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِ عَصْفًۭا
فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِfal-ʿāṣifātiAnd the winds that blowعَصْفًۭاʿaṣfanviolently
And the winds that blow violently
⤳ Link
77:2
3
وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًۭا
وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِwal-nāshirātiAnd the ones that scatterنَشْرًۭاnashranfar and wide
And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]
⤳ Link
77:3
4
فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِ فَرْقًۭا
فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِfal-fāriqātiAnd those who separateفَرْقًۭاfarqan(by the) Criterion
And those [angels] who bring criterion
⤳ Link
77:4
5
فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا
فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِfal-mul'qiyātiAnd those who bring downذِكْرًاdhik'ran(the) Reminder
And those [angels] who deliver a message
⤳ Link
77:5
6
عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا
عُذْرًاʿudh'ran(As) justificationأَوْaworنُذْرًاnudh'ranwarning
As justification or warning
⤳ Link
77:6
7
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌۭ
إِنَّمَاinnamāIndeed, whatتُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnayou are promisedلَوَٰقِعٌۭlawāqiʿunwill surely occur
Indeed, what you are promised is to occur

8
فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ
فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo whenٱلنُّجُومُl-nujūmuthe starsطُمِسَتْṭumisatare obliterated
So when the stars are obliterated

77:8
9
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heavenفُرِجَتْfurijatis cleft asunder
And when the heaven is opened
⤳ Link
77:9
10
وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsنُسِفَتْnusifatare blown away
And when the mountains are blown away
⤳ Link
77:10
11
وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenٱلرُّسُلُl-rusuluthe Messengersأُقِّتَتْuqqitatare gathered to their appointed time
And when the messengers' time has come

77:11
12
لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ
لِأَىِّli-ayyiFor whatيَوْمٍyawminDayأُجِّلَتْujjilatare (these) postponed
For what Day was it postponed

77:12
13
لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِ
لِيَوْمِliyawmiFor (the) Dayٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli(of) Judgment
For the Day of Judgement
⤳ Link
77:13
14
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ
وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَadrākawill make you knowمَاmāwhatيَوْمُyawmu(is the) Dayٱلْفَصْلِl-faṣli(of) the Judgment
And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement

77:14
15
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers

77:15
16
أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
أَلَمْalamDid notنُهْلِكِnuh'likiWe destroyٱلْأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former (people)
Did We not destroy the former peoples
⤳ Link
77:16
17
ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
ثُمَّthummaThenنُتْبِعُهُمُnut'biʿuhumuWe follow them upٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَl-ākhirīna(with) the later ones
Then We will follow them with the later ones

77:17
18
كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusنَفْعَلُnafʿaluWe dealبِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَbil-muj'rimīnawith the criminals
Thus do We deal with the criminals

77:18
19
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers
⤳ Link
77:19
20
أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍۢ مَّهِينٍۢ
أَلَمْalamDid notنَخْلُقكُّمnakhluqkkumWe create youمِّنminfromمَّآءٍۢmāina waterمَّهِينٍۢmahīnindespicable
Did We not create you from a liquid disdained
⤳ Link
77:20
21
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ فِى قَرَارٍۢ مَّكِينٍ
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُfajaʿalnāhuThen We placed itفِىfīinقَرَارٍۢqarārinan abodeمَّكِينٍmakīninsafe
And We placed it in a firm lodging

77:21
22
إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ
إِلَىٰilāForقَدَرٍۢqadarina periodمَّعْلُومٍۢmaʿlūminknown
For a known extent
⤳ Link
77:22
23
فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَ
فَقَدَرْنَاfaqadarnāSo We measuredفَنِعْمَfaniʿ'maand Bestٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَl-qādirūna(are We to) measure
And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine

77:23
24
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers
⤳ Link
77:24
25
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا
أَلَمْalamHave notنَجْعَلِnajʿaliWe madeٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthكِفَاتًاkifātana receptacle
Have We not made the earth a container
⤳ Link
77:25
26
أَحْيَآءًۭ وَأَمْوَٰتًۭا
أَحْيَآءًۭaḥyāan(For the) livingوَأَمْوَٰتًۭاwa-amwātanand (the) dead
Of the living and the dead
⤳ Link
77:26
27
وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍۢ وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُم مَّآءًۭ فُرَاتًۭا
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We madeفِيهَاfīhāthereinرَوَٰسِىَrawāsiyafirmly set mountainsشَـٰمِخَـٰتٍۢshāmikhātinloftyوَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمwa-asqaynākumand We gave you to drinkمَّآءًۭmāanwater فُرَاتًۭاfurātansweet
And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water

77:27
28
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers

77:28
29
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟inṭaliqūProceedإِلَىٰilātoمَاmāwhatكُنتُمkuntumyou used toبِهِۦbihiin itتُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūnadeny
[They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny

77:29
30
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّۢ ذِى ثَلَـٰثِ شُعَبٍۢ
ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟inṭaliqūProceedإِلَىٰilātoظِلٍّۢẓillina shadowذِىdhīhavingثَلَـٰثِthalāthithreeشُعَبٍۢshuʿabincolumns
Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns

77:30
31
لَّا ظَلِيلٍۢ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ
لَّاlāNoظَلِيلٍۢẓalīlincool shadeوَلَاwalāand notيُغْنِىyugh'nīavailingمِنَminaagainstٱللَّهَبِl-lahabithe flame
[But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame
⤳ Link
77:31
32
إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍۢ كَٱلْقَصْرِ
إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed, itتَرْمِىtarmīthrows upبِشَرَرٍۢbishararinsparksكَٱلْقَصْرِkal-qaṣrias the fortress
Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress

77:32
33
كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَـٰلَتٌۭ صُفْرٌۭ
كَأَنَّهُۥka-annahuAs if they (were)جِمَـٰلَتٌۭjimālatuncamelsصُفْرٌۭṣuf'runyellow
As if they were yellowish [black] camels

77:33
34
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers

77:34
35
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ
هَـٰذَاhādhāThisيَوْمُyawmu(is) a Dayلَاlānotيَنطِقُونَyanṭiqūnathey will speak
This is a Day they will not speak
⤳ Link
77:35
36
وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ
وَلَاwalāAnd notيُؤْذَنُyu'dhanuwill it be permittedلَهُمْlahumfor themفَيَعْتَذِرُونَfayaʿtadhirūnato make excuses
Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse

77:36
37
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers

77:37
38
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
هَـٰذَاhādhāThisيَوْمُyawmu(is the) Dayٱلْفَصْلِ ۖl-faṣli(of) JudgmentجَمَعْنَـٰكُمْjamaʿnākumWe have gathered youوَٱلْأَوَّلِينَwal-awalīnaand the former (people)
This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples

77:38
39
فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌۭ فَكِيدُونِ
فَإِنfa-inSo ifكَانَkānaisلَكُمْlakumfor youكَيْدٌۭkayduna planفَكِيدُونِfakīdūnithen plan against Me
So if you have a plan, then plan against Me

77:39
40
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers
⤳ Link
77:40
41
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍۢ وَعُيُونٍۢ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteousفِىfī(will be) inظِلَـٰلٍۢẓilālinshadesوَعُيُونٍۢwaʿuyūninand springs
Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

77:41
42
وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
وَفَوَٰكِهَwafawākihaAnd fruitsمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatيَشْتَهُونَyashtahūnathey desire
And fruits from whatever they desire
⤳ Link
77:42
43
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
كُلُوا۟kulūEatوَٱشْرَبُوا۟wa-ish'rabūand drinkهَنِيٓـًٔۢاhanīan(in) satisfactionبِمَاbimāfor whatكُنتُمْkuntumyou used toتَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do

77:43
44
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikathusنَجْزِىnajzīrewardٱلْمُحْسِنِينَl-muḥ'sinīnathe good-doers
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good

77:44
45
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers

77:45
46
كُلُوا۟ وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ
كُلُوا۟kulūEatوَتَمَتَّعُوا۟watamattaʿūand enjoy yourselvesقَلِيلًاqalīlana littleإِنَّكُمinnakumindeed, youمُّجْرِمُونَmuj'rimūna(are) criminals
[O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals

77:46
47
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers
⤳ Link
77:47
48
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ لَا يَرْكَعُونَ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenقِيلَqīlait is saidلَهُمُlahumuto themٱرْكَعُوا۟ir'kaʿūBowلَاlānotيَرْكَعُونَyarkaʿūnathey bow
And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow

77:48
49
وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَlil'mukadhibīnato the deniers
Woe, that Day, to the deniers

77:49
50
فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ
فَبِأَىِّfabi-ayyiThen in whatحَدِيثٍۭḥadīthinstatementبَعْدَهُۥbaʿdahuafter itيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnawill they believe
Then in what statement after the Qur'an will they believe
