Surah 75 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ القِيَامَةِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
لَآlāNayأُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِيَوْمِbiyawmiby (the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
I swear by the Day of Resurrection
⤳ Link
75:1
2
وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
وَلَآwalāAnd nayأُقْسِمُuq'simuI swearبِٱلنَّفْسِbil-nafsiby the soulٱللَّوَّامَةِl-lawāmatiself-accusing
And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection]

75:2
3
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabuDoes thinkٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[the] manأَلَّنallanthat notنَّجْمَعَnajmaʿaWe will assembleعِظَامَهُۥʿiẓāmahuhis bones
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones

75:3
4
بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
بَلَىٰbalāNayقَـٰدِرِينَqādirīna(We are) AbleعَلَىٰٓʿalāonأَنanthatنُّسَوِّىَnusawwiyaWe can restoreبَنَانَهُۥbanānahuhis fingertips
Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips

75:4
5
بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
بَلْbalNayيُرِيدُyurīduDesiresٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[the] manلِيَفْجُرَliyafjurato give (the) lieأَمَامَهُۥamāmahu(to) what is before him
But man desires to continue in sin

75:5
6
يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
يَسْـَٔلُyasaluHe asksأَيَّانَayyānaWhenيَوْمُyawmu(is the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrection
He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection

75:6
7
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ
فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo whenبَرِقَbariqais dazzledٱلْبَصَرُl-baṣaruthe vision
So when vision is dazzled
⤳ Link
75:7
8
وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ
وَخَسَفَwakhasafaAnd becomes darkٱلْقَمَرُl-qamaruthe moon
And the moon darkens
⤳ Link
75:8
9
وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ
وَجُمِعَwajumiʿaAnd are joinedٱلشَّمْسُl-shamsuthe sunوَٱلْقَمَرُwal-qamaruand the moon
And the sun and the moon are joined

75:9
10
يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ
يَقُولُyaqūluWill sayٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[the] manيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat DayأَيْنَaynaWhereٱلْمَفَرُّl-mafaru(is) the escape
Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape
⤳ Link
75:10
11
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
كَلَّاkallāBy no meansلَاlā(There is) noوَزَرَwazararefuge
No! There is no refuge

75:11
12
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
إِلَىٰilāToرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّl-mus'taqaru(is) the place of rest
To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence

75:12
13
يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
يُنَبَّؤُا۟yunabba-uWill be informedٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[the] manيَوْمَئِذٍۭyawma-idhinthat Dayبِمَاbimāof whatقَدَّمَqaddamahe sent forthوَأَخَّرَwa-akharaand kept back
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back
⤳ Link
75:13
14
بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌۭ
بَلِbaliNayٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[The] manعَلَىٰʿalāagainstنَفْسِهِۦnafsihihimselfبَصِيرَةٌۭbaṣīratun(will be) a witness
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness

75:14
15
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
وَلَوْwalawEven ifأَلْقَىٰalqāhe presentsمَعَاذِيرَهُۥmaʿādhīrahuhis excuses
Even if he presents his excuses

75:15
16
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ
لَاlāNotتُحَرِّكْtuḥarrikmoveبِهِۦbihiwith itلِسَانَكَlisānakayour tongueلِتَعْجَلَlitaʿjalato hastenبِهِۦٓbihiwith it
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an

75:16
17
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
إِنَّinnaIndeedعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon Usجَمْعَهُۥjamʿahu(is) its collectionوَقُرْءَانَهُۥwaqur'ānahuand its recitation
Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation

75:17
18
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ
فَإِذَاfa-idhāAnd whenقَرَأْنَـٰهُqaranāhuWe have recited itفَٱتَّبِعْfa-ittabiʿthen followقُرْءَانَهُۥqur'ānahuits recitation
So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation

75:18
19
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
ثُمَّthummaThenإِنَّinnaindeedعَلَيْنَاʿalaynāupon Usبَيَانَهُۥbayānahu(is) its explanation
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you]
⤳ Link
75:19
20
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
كَلَّاkallāNoبَلْbalButتُحِبُّونَtuḥibbūnayou loveٱلْعَاجِلَةَl-ʿājilatathe immediate
No! But you love the immediate

75:20
21
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
وَتَذَرُونَwatadharūnaAnd leaveٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَl-ākhiratathe Hereafter
And leave the Hereafter
⤳ Link
75:21
22
وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاضِرَةٌ
وُجُوهٌۭwujūhunFacesيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayنَّاضِرَةٌnāḍiratun(will be) radiant
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant
⤳ Link
75:22
23
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌۭ
إِلَىٰilāTowardsرَبِّهَاrabbihātheir Lordنَاظِرَةٌۭnāẓiratunlooking
Looking at their Lord
⤳ Link
75:23
24
وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌۭ
وَوُجُوهٌۭwawujūhunAnd facesيَوْمَئِذٍۭyawma-idhinthat Dayبَاسِرَةٌۭbāsiratun(will be) distorted
And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted

75:24
25
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌۭ
تَظُنُّtaẓunnuThinkingأَنanthatيُفْعَلَyuf'ʿalawill be doneبِهَاbihāto themفَاقِرَةٌۭfāqiratunbackbreaking
Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking

75:25
26
كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
كَلَّآkallāNoإِذَاidhāWhenبَلَغَتِbalaghatiit reachesٱلتَّرَاقِىَl-tarāqiyathe collar bones
No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
⤳ Link
75:26
27
وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍۢ
وَقِيلَwaqīlaAnd it is saidمَنْ ۜmanWhoرَاقٍۢrāqin(will) cure
And it is said, "Who will cure [him]

75:27
28
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ
وَظَنَّwaẓannaAnd he is certainأَنَّهُannahuthat itٱلْفِرَاقُl-firāqu(is) the parting
And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
⤳ Link
75:28
29
وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
وَٱلْتَفَّتِwal-tafatiAnd is woundٱلسَّاقُl-sāquthe legبِٱلسَّاقِbil-sāqiabout the leg
And the leg is wound about the leg
⤳ Link
75:29
30
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ
إِلَىٰilāToرَبِّكَrabbikayour Lordيَوْمَئِذٍyawma-idhinthat Dayٱلْمَسَاقُl-masāqu(will be) the driving
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession

75:30
31
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
فَلَاfalāAnd notصَدَّقَṣaddaqahe accepted (the) truthوَلَاwalāand notصَلَّىٰṣallāhe prayed
And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed

75:31
32
وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
وَلَـٰكِنwalākinButكَذَّبَkadhabahe deniedوَتَوَلَّىٰwatawallāand turned away
But [instead], he denied and turned away
⤳ Link
75:32
33
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
ثُمَّthummaThenذَهَبَdhahabahe wentإِلَىٰٓilātoأَهْلِهِۦahlihihis familyيَتَمَطَّىٰٓyatamaṭṭāswaggering
And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride]
⤳ Link
75:33
34
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
أَوْلَىٰawlāWoeلَكَlakato youفَأَوْلَىٰfa-awlāand woe
Woe to you, and woe
⤳ Link
75:34
35
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
ثُمَّthummaThenأَوْلَىٰawlāwoeلَكَlakato youفَأَوْلَىٰٓfa-awlāand woe
Then woe to you, and woe
⤳ Link
75:35
36
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
أَيَحْسَبُayaḥsabuDoes thinkٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānumanأَنanthatيُتْرَكَyut'rakahe will be leftسُدًىsudanneglected
Does man think that he will be left neglected
⤳ Link
75:36
37
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةًۭ مِّن مَّنِىٍّۢ يُمْنَىٰ
أَلَمْalamWas notيَكُyakuheنُطْفَةًۭnuṭ'fatana semen-dropمِّنminofمَّنِىٍّۢmaniyyinsemenيُمْنَىٰyum'nāemitted
Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted
⤳ Link
75:37
38
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
ثُمَّthummaThenكَانَkānahe wasعَلَقَةًۭʿalaqatana clinging substanceفَخَلَقَfakhalaqathen He createdفَسَوَّىٰfasawwāand proportioned
Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

75:38
39
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
فَجَعَلَfajaʿalaThen madeمِنْهُmin'huof himٱلزَّوْجَيْنِl-zawjaynitwo kindsٱلذَّكَرَl-dhakara(the) maleوَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓwal-unthāand the female
And made of him two mates, the male and the female
⤳ Link
75:39
40
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
أَلَيْسَalaysaIs notذَٰلِكَdhālika[that]بِقَـٰدِرٍbiqādirin(He) Ableعَلَىٰٓʿalā[over]أَنantoيُحْـِۧىَyuḥ'yiyagive lifeٱلْمَوْتَىٰl-mawtā(to) the dead
Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead

75:40
