Surah 86 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ الطَّارِقِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ
وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the skyوَٱلطَّارِقِwal-ṭāriqiand the night comer
By the sky and the night comer

86:1
2
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ
وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَadrākacan make you knowمَاmāwhatٱلطَّارِقُl-ṭāriquthe night comer (is)
And what can make you know what is the night comer

3
ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ
ٱلنَّجْمُal-najmu(It is) the starٱلثَّاقِبُl-thāqibuthe piercing
It is the piercing star

4
إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ
إِنinNotكُلُّkullu(is) everyنَفْسٍۢnafsinsoulلَّمَّاlammābutعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāover itحَافِظٌۭḥāfiẓun(is) a protector
There is no soul but that it has over it a protector

86:4
5
فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
فَلْيَنظُرِfalyanẓuriSo let seeٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānumanمِمَّmimmafrom whatخُلِقَkhuliqahe is created
So let man observe from what he was created

6
خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ
خُلِقَkhuliqaHe is createdمِنminfromمَّآءٍۢmāina waterدَافِقٍۢdāfiqinejected
He was created from a fluid, ejected

7
يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ
يَخْرُجُyakhrujuComing forthمِنۢminfromبَيْنِbaynibetweenٱلصُّلْبِl-ṣul'bithe backboneوَٱلتَّرَآئِبِwal-tarāibiand the ribs
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs

86:7
8
إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, Heعَلَىٰʿalātoرَجْعِهِۦrajʿihireturn himلَقَادِرٌۭlaqādirun(is) Able
Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able

9
يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayتُبْلَىtub'lāwill be testedٱلسَّرَآئِرُl-sarāiruthe secrets
The Day when secrets will be put on trial

86:9
10
فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ
فَمَاfamāThen notلَهُۥlahu(is) for himمِنminanyقُوَّةٍۢquwwatinpowerوَلَاwalāand notنَاصِرٍۢnāṣirinany helper
Then man will have no power or any helper

11
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ
وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the skyذَاتِdhātiwhichٱلرَّجْعِl-rajʿireturns
By the sky which returns [rain]

86:11
12
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiAnd the earthذَاتِdhātiwhichٱلصَّدْعِl-ṣadʿicracks open
And [by] the earth which cracks open
⤳ Link
86:12
13
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, itلَقَوْلٌۭlaqawlun(is) surely a Wordفَصْلٌۭfaṣlundecisive
Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement

14
وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ
وَمَاwamāAnd notهُوَhuwaitبِٱلْهَزْلِbil-hazli(is) for amusement
And it is not amusement

15
إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا
إِنَّهُمْinnahumIndeed, theyيَكِيدُونَyakīdūnaare plottingكَيْدًۭاkaydana plot
Indeed, they are planning a plan

16
وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا
وَأَكِيدُwa-akīduBut I am planningكَيْدًۭاkaydana plan
But I am planning a plan

86:16
17
فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا
فَمَهِّلِfamahhiliSo give respiteٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(to) the disbelieversأَمْهِلْهُمْamhil'humGive respite to them رُوَيْدًۢاruwaydanlittle
So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile
