Surah 87 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ الأَعۡلَىٰ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى
سَبِّحِsabbiḥiGlorifyٱسْمَis'ma(the) nameرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordٱلْأَعْلَىl-aʿlāthe Most High
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High

87:1
2
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One Whoخَلَقَkhalaqacreatedفَسَوَّىٰfasawwāthen proportioned
Who created and proportioned

87:2
3
وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
وَٱلَّذِىwa-alladhīAnd the One Whoقَدَّرَqaddarameasuredفَهَدَىٰfahadāthen guided
And who destined and [then] guided

87:3
4
وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ
وَٱلَّذِىٓwa-alladhīAnd the One Whoأَخْرَجَakhrajabrings forthٱلْمَرْعَىٰl-marʿāthe pasture
And who brings out the pasture

87:4
5
فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ
فَجَعَلَهُۥfajaʿalahuAnd then makes itغُثَآءًghuthāanstubbleأَحْوَىٰaḥwādark
And [then] makes it black stubble

87:5
6
سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ
سَنُقْرِئُكَsanuq'ri-ukaWe will make you reciteفَلَاfalāso notتَنسَىٰٓtansāyou will forget
We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget

87:6
7
إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ
إِلَّاillāExceptمَاmāwhatشَآءَshāawillsٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllahإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, Heيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsٱلْجَهْرَl-jahrathe manifestوَمَاwamāand whatيَخْفَىٰyakhfāis hidden
Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden

87:7
8
وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
وَنُيَسِّرُكَwanuyassirukaAnd We will ease youلِلْيُسْرَىٰlil'yus'rāto the ease
And We will ease you toward ease
⤳ Link
87:8
9
فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
فَذَكِّرْfadhakkirSo remindإِنinifنَّفَعَتِnafaʿatibenefitsٱلذِّكْرَىٰl-dhik'rāthe reminder
So remind, if the reminder should benefit

87:9
10
سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ
سَيَذَّكَّرُsayadhakkaruHe will pay heed مَنman(one) whoيَخْشَىٰyakhshāfears (Allah)
He who fears [Allah] will be reminded

87:10
11
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَاwayatajannabuhāAnd will avoid itٱلْأَشْقَىl-ashqāthe wretched one
But the wretched one will avoid it

87:11
12
ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe one whoيَصْلَىyaṣlāwill burnٱلنَّارَl-nāra(in) the Fireٱلْكُبْرَىٰl-kub'rā[the] great
[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire

87:12
13
ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
ثُمَّthummaThenلَاlānotيَمُوتُyamūtuhe will dieفِيهَاfīhāthereinوَلَاwalāand notيَحْيَىٰyaḥyāwill live
Neither dying therein nor living

87:13
14
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
قَدْqadCertainlyأَفْلَحَaflaḥahas succeededمَنman(one) whoتَزَكَّىٰtazakkāpurifies (himself)
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself

87:14
15
وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ
وَذَكَرَwadhakaraAnd remembersٱسْمَis'ma(the) nameرَبِّهِۦrabbihi(of) his Lordفَصَلَّىٰfaṣallāand prays
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays

87:15
16
بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
بَلْbalNayتُؤْثِرُونَtu'thirūnaYou preferٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatathe lifeٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the world
But you prefer the worldly life

87:16
17
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُwal-ākhiratuWhile the Hereafterخَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) betterوَأَبْقَىٰٓwa-abqāand everlasting
While the Hereafter is better and more enduring

87:17
18
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
إِنَّinnaIndeedهَـٰذَاhādhāthisلَفِىlafīsurely (is) inٱلصُّحُفِl-ṣuḥufithe Scripturesٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlā[the] former
Indeed, this is in the former scriptures

19
صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
صُحُفِṣuḥufi(The) Scripturesإِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīma(of) Ibrahimوَمُوسَىٰwamūsāand Musa
The scriptures of Abraham and Moses
