Ramadan 2027
What to say when you see the new moon, while you fast, when you break your fast, for the family that hosts you, and in the last ten nights. Each dua shows its Arabic, its meaning, and how strong its source is.
Ramadan 1448 is expected to start on Monday 8 February 2027 (Umm al-Qura calculation). Where the start depends on a local moon sighting, it can start one day later, on Tuesday 9 February. Find your city's timetable.
The Prophet ﷺ said this dua when he saw the new crescent moon. It is for the start of any month, so it fits the night Ramadan begins.
اللَّهُمَّ أَهْلِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلاَمَةِ وَالإِسْلاَمِ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ
Allahumma ahlilhu 'alayna bil-yumni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-islam, rabbi wa rabbuk-Allah
O Allah, bring it over us with blessing and faith, and security and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.

Grade differs: hasan gharib (al-Tirmidhi); da'if (Darussalam)
No fixed words for the intention to fast are narrated from the Prophet ﷺ. The intention is in your heart. If you know you will fast tomorrow and you mean it for Allah, you have made the intention. Many scholars say that getting up for suhoor in order to fast already counts.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “He who does not determine to fast before dawn does not fast” (Abu Dawud 2454, graded sahih by al-Albani). Abu Dawud notes that some narrators report it as the words of Hafsah, not of the Prophet ﷺ.
Most scholars (the Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali schools) say the intention for a Ramadan fast is made at night, before Fajr. The Hanafi school allows it until before midday. The Maliki school says one intention at the start of Ramadan covers the whole month. Ask a local scholar about your own case.
Not from a hadith
Wa bisawmi ghadin nawaytu min shahri Ramadan
“I intend to fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.” Many people learn this sentence. It is not from any hadith, and you do not need to say it. If you say it, do not treat it as sunnah.

No special dua for suhoor is narrated. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Take suhoor, as there is a blessing in it” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1923). Say the dua before eating, and thank Allah with the dua after eating.
The Prophet ﷺ said that there are three people whose dua is not turned back, and the fasting person is one of them. One report says “when he breaks his fast” (Tirmidhi 3598). Another says “until he breaks his fast” (Ibn Majah 1752). Darussalam grades both hasan.
إِنِّي صَائِمٌ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ
Inni sa'im, inni sa'im
I am fasting, I am fasting.
The Prophet ﷺ said that fasting is a shield. If someone insults you or starts a fight, say: “I am fasting.”
Sahih: in al-Bukhari and Muslim
The iftar dua with the stronger chain is Dhahabaz-zama'u. The Prophet ﷺ said it when he broke his fast. Allahumma laka sumtu is more widely known, but its chain is weak.
ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Dhahabaz-zama'u wabtallatil-'uruqu wa thabatal-ajru in sha Allah
The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.
Narrated by Ibn 'Umar: the Prophet ﷺ said this when he broke his fast.
Hasan (al-Albani)
اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ
Allahumma laka sumtu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu
O Allah, for You I have fasted, and with Your provision I have broken my fast.
Popular, but the narrator does not say who told him. The chain has a gap (mursal).
Da'if (weak): al-Albani
When someone gives you iftar, make dua for them. For anyone who gives you food or drink, there is also the dua for the host (Sahih Muslim 2055).
أَفْطَرَ عِنْدَكُمُ الصَّائِمُونَ وَأَكَلَ طَعَامَكُمُ الأَبْرَارُ وَصَلَّتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ
Aftara 'indakumus-sa'imun, wa akala ta'amakumul-abrar, wa sallat 'alaykumul-mala'ikah
May fasting people break their fast with you, may the righteous eat your food, and may the angels send blessing upon you.
The Prophet ﷺ said this to his host after eating at his house.
Sahih (al-Albani; Darussalam)
The last ten nights of Ramadan 1448 are expected to start on the evening of Saturday 27 February 2027. The 27th night is expected on the evening of Friday 5 March. Both move one day later where the start of Ramadan depends on a local moon sighting. See the last ten nights plan.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni
O Allah, You are the Pardoner, You love to pardon, so pardon me.
‘A’ishah asked the Prophet ﷺ what to say if she knew which night was Laylat al-Qadr. He taught her this dua. Tirmidhi’s wording adds one word, karim (Generous).
Sahih (Darussalam)
Allah placed this verse in the middle of the verses about fasting (2:183–187). He tells us that He is near and answers the one who calls on Him.
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِى عَنِّى فَإِنِّى قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ ٱلدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ ۖ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لِى وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُونَ
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
Three duas from the Qur'an to make while you fast and in the nights:
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةًۭ وَفِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ حَسَنَةًۭ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ
wamin'hum man yaqūlu rabbanā ātinā fī l-dun'yā ḥasanatan wafī l-ākhirati ḥasanatan waqinā ʿadhāba l-nāri
But among them is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire
A dua for good in this world and the next.
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ
rabbanā lā tuzigh qulūbanā baʿda idh hadaytanā wahab lanā min ladunka raḥmatan innaka anta l-wahābu
[Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower
A dua to keep the heart firm after guidance.
لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا ٱكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَآ إِن نَّسِينَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَآ إِصْرًۭا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦ ۖ وَٱعْفُ عَنَّا وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَآ ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَىٰنَا فَٱنصُرْنَا عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
lā yukallifu l-lahu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā lahā mā kasabat waʿalayhā mā ik'tasabat rabbanā lā tuākhidh'nā in nasīnā aw akhṭanā rabbanā walā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣ'ran kamā ḥamaltahu ʿalā alladhīna min qablinā rabbanā walā tuḥammil'nā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bihi wa-uʿ'fu ʿannā wa-igh'fir lanā wa-ir'ḥamnā anta mawlānā fa-unṣur'nā ʿalā l-qawmi l-kāfirīna
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people

Its chain is weak. It is in Abu Dawud 2358, but the narrator, Mu'adh ibn Zuhrah, says only that it reached him and does not name who told him. This is called a mursal chain. Al-Albani graded it da'if (weak).
No special dua for suhoor is narrated. Say Bismillah before you eat. The Prophet ﷺ said there is blessing in suhoor (Sahih al-Bukhari 1923).
