Transliteration

Inni sa'im, inni sa'im

Meaning

I am fasting, I am fasting.

When to say it

When someone insults you or starts a fight while you are fasting.

Narrator

Abu Hurayrah.

Context

The Prophet ﷺ said that fasting is a shield. The fasting person should not use foul words or act foolishly. If someone fights him or insults him, he should say: "I am fasting." In Bukhari 1894 he says it twice. The Arabic above is the wording of Muslim 1151a.
