Surah 20 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ طه
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
2
مَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِتَشْقَىٰٓ
مَآmāNotأَنزَلْنَاanzalnāWe (have) sent downعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'ānathe Quranلِتَشْقَىٰٓlitashqāthat you be distressed
We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed

20:2
3
إِلَّا تَذْكِرَةًۭ لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ
إِلَّاillā(But)تَذْكِرَةًۭtadhkiratan(as) a reminderلِّمَنlimanfor (those) whoيَخْشَىٰyakhshāfear
But only as a reminder for those who fear [Allah]

20:3
4
تَنزِيلًۭا مِّمَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ ٱلْعُلَى
تَنزِيلًۭاtanzīlanA revelationمِّمَّنْmimmanfrom (He) Whoخَلَقَkhalaqacreatedٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthوَٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِwal-samāwātiand the heavensٱلْعُلَىl-ʿulā[the] high
A revelation from He who created the earth and highest heavens

20:4
5
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُal-raḥmānuThe Most Graciousعَلَىʿalāoverٱلْعَرْشِl-ʿarshithe Throneٱسْتَوَىٰis'tawāis established
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established

20:5
6
لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحْتَ ٱلثَّرَىٰ
لَهُۥlahuTo Him (belongs)مَاmāwhateverفِىfī(is) inٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَمَاwamāand whateverفِىfī(is) inٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَمَاwamāand whateverبَيْنَهُمَاbaynahumā(is) between themوَمَاwamāand whateverتَحْتَtaḥta(is) underٱلثَّرَىٰl-tharāthe soil
To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth and what is between them and what is under the soil

20:6
7
وَإِن تَجْهَرْ بِٱلْقَوْلِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ وَأَخْفَى
وَإِنwa-inAnd ifتَجْهَرْtajharyou speak aloudبِٱلْقَوْلِbil-qawlithe wordفَإِنَّهُۥfa-innahuthen indeed, Heيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsٱلسِّرَّl-sirathe secretوَأَخْفَىwa-akhfāand the more hidden
And if you speak aloud - then indeed, He knows the secret and what is [even] more hidden

20:7
8
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ
ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah لَآlā(there is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَ ۖhuwaHimلَهُlahuTo Him (belong)ٱلْأَسْمَآءُl-asmāuthe Namesٱلْحُسْنَىٰl-ḥus'nāthe Most Beautiful
Allah - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names

20:8
9
وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
وَهَلْwahalAnd hasأَتَىٰكَatākacome to youحَدِيثُḥadīthuthe narrationمُوسَىٰٓmūsā(of) Musa
And has the story of Moses reached you

20:9
10
إِذْ رَءَا نَارًۭا فَقَالَ لِأَهْلِهِ ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ إِنِّىٓ ءَانَسْتُ نَارًۭا لَّعَلِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم مِّنْهَا بِقَبَسٍ أَوْ أَجِدُ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ هُدًۭى
إِذْidhWhenرَءَاraāhe sawنَارًۭاnārana fireفَقَالَfaqālathen he saidلِأَهْلِهِli-ahlihito his familyٱمْكُثُوٓا۟um'kuthūStay hereإِنِّىٓinnīindeed, Iءَانَسْتُānastu[I] perceivedنَارًۭاnārana fireلَّعَلِّىٓlaʿallīperhaps I (can)ءَاتِيكُمātīkumbring youمِّنْهَاmin'hātherefromبِقَبَسٍbiqabasina burning brandأَوْaworأَجِدُajiduI findعَلَىʿalāatٱلنَّارِl-nārithe fireهُدًۭىhudanguidance
When he saw a fire and said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I can bring you a torch or find at the fire some guidance

20:10
11
فَلَمَّآ أَتَىٰهَا نُودِىَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ
فَلَمَّآfalammāThen whenأَتَىٰهَاatāhāhe came to itنُودِىَnūdiyahe was calledيَـٰمُوسَىٰٓyāmūsāO Musa
And when he came to it, he was called, "O Moses

20:11
12
إِنِّىٓ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكَ فَٱخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًۭى
إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, [I]أَنَا۠anāI Amرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordفَٱخْلَعْfa-ikh'laʿso removeنَعْلَيْكَ ۖnaʿlaykayour shoesإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, youبِٱلْوَادِbil-wādi(are) in the valleyٱلْمُقَدَّسِl-muqadasithe sacredطُوًۭىṭuwan(of) Tuwa
Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa

13
وَأَنَا ٱخْتَرْتُكَ فَٱسْتَمِعْ لِمَا يُوحَىٰٓ
وَأَنَاwa-anāAnd Iٱخْتَرْتُكَikh'tartuka(have) chosen youفَٱسْتَمِعْfa-is'tamiʿso listenلِمَاlimāto whatيُوحَىٰٓyūḥāis revealed
And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed [to you]

20:13
14
إِنَّنِىٓ أَنَا ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدْنِى وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِذِكْرِىٓ
إِنَّنِىٓinnanīIndeed, [I]أَنَاanāI Amٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahلَآlā(There is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّآillābutأَنَا۠anāIفَٱعْبُدْنِىfa-uʿ'bud'nīso worship Meوَأَقِمِwa-aqimiand establishٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayerلِذِكْرِىٓlidhik'rīfor My remembrance
Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance

15
إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌ أَكَادُ أُخْفِيهَا لِتُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا تَسْعَىٰ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hourءَاتِيَةٌātiyatun(will be) comingأَكَادُakāduI almostأُخْفِيهَاukh'fīhā[I] hide itلِتُجْزَىٰlituj'zāthat may be recompensedكُلُّkullueveryنَفْسٍۭnafsinsoulبِمَاbimāfor whatتَسْعَىٰtasʿāit strives
Indeed, the Hour is coming - I almost conceal it - so that every soul may be recompensed according to that for which it strives

20:15
16
فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ فَتَرْدَىٰ
فَلَاfalāSo (do) notيَصُدَّنَّكَyaṣuddannaka(let) avert youعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom itمَنman(one) whoلَّاlā(does) notيُؤْمِنُyu'minubelieveبِهَاbihāin itوَٱتَّبَعَwa-ittabaʿaand followsهَوَىٰهُhawāhuhis desiresفَتَرْدَىٰfatardālest you perish
So do not let one avert you from it who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish

17
وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
وَمَاwamāAnd whatتِلْكَtil'ka(is) thatبِيَمِينِكَbiyamīnikain your right handيَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsāO Musa
And what is that in your right hand, O Moses

20:17
18
قَالَ هِىَ عَصَاىَ أَتَوَكَّؤُا۟ عَلَيْهَا وَأَهُشُّ بِهَا عَلَىٰ غَنَمِى وَلِىَ فِيهَا مَـَٔارِبُ أُخْرَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidهِىَhiyaItعَصَاىَʿaṣāya(is) my staffأَتَوَكَّؤُا۟atawakka-uI leanعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāupon itوَأَهُشُّwa-ahushuand I bring down leavesبِهَاbihāwith itعَلَىٰʿalāforغَنَمِىghanamīmy sheepوَلِىَwaliyaand for meفِيهَاfīhāin itمَـَٔارِبُmaāribu(are) usesأُخْرَىٰukh'rāother
He said, "It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I bring down leaves for my sheep and I have therein other uses

20:18
19
قَالَ أَلْقِهَا يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidأَلْقِهَاalqihāThrow it downيَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsāO Musa
[Allah] said, "Throw it down, O Moses

20:19
20
فَأَلْقَىٰهَا فَإِذَا هِىَ حَيَّةٌۭ تَسْعَىٰ
فَأَلْقَىٰهَاfa-alqāhāSo he threw it downفَإِذَاfa-idhāand beholdهِىَhiyaItحَيَّةٌۭḥayyatun(was) a snakeتَسْعَىٰtasʿāmoving swiftly
So he threw it down, and thereupon it was a snake, moving swiftly

20:20
21
قَالَ خُذْهَا وَلَا تَخَفْ ۖ سَنُعِيدُهَا سِيرَتَهَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidخُذْهَاkhudh'hāSeize itوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَخَفْ ۖtakhaffearسَنُعِيدُهَاsanuʿīduhāWe will return itسِيرَتَهَاsīratahā(to) its stateٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlāthe former
[Allah] said, "Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition

20:21
22
وَٱضْمُمْ يَدَكَ إِلَىٰ جَنَاحِكَ تَخْرُجْ بَيْضَآءَ مِنْ غَيْرِ سُوٓءٍ ءَايَةً أُخْرَىٰ
وَٱضْمُمْwa-uḍ'mumAnd draw nearيَدَكَyadakayour handإِلَىٰilātoجَنَاحِكَjanāḥikayour sideتَخْرُجْtakhrujit will come outبَيْضَآءَbayḍāawhiteمِنْminwithout anyغَيْرِghayriwithout anyسُوٓءٍsūindiseaseءَايَةًāyatan(as) a signأُخْرَىٰukh'rāanother
And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease - another sign

20:22
23
لِنُرِيَكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا ٱلْكُبْرَى
لِنُرِيَكَlinuriyakaThat We may show youمِنْminofءَايَـٰتِنَاāyātināOur Signsٱلْكُبْرَىl-kub'rāthe Greatest
That We may show you [some] of Our greater signs

20:23
24
ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
ٱذْهَبْidh'habGoإِلَىٰilātoفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heطَغَىٰṭaghā(has) transgressed
Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed

20:24
25
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى
قَالَqālaHe saidرَبِّrabbiMy Lordٱشْرَحْish'raḥExpandلِىlīfor meصَدْرِىṣadrīmy breast
[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance]

20:25
26
وَيَسِّرْ لِىٓ أَمْرِى
وَيَسِّرْwayassirAnd easeلِىٓlīfor meأَمْرِىamrīmy task
And ease for me my task
⤳ Link
20:26
27
وَٱحْلُلْ عُقْدَةًۭ مِّن لِّسَانِى
وَٱحْلُلْwa-uḥ'lulAnd untieعُقْدَةًۭʿuq'datan(the) knotمِّنminfromلِّسَانِىlisānīmy tongue
And untie the knot from my tongue

20:27
28
يَفْقَهُوا۟ قَوْلِى
يَفْقَهُوا۟yafqahūThat they may understandقَوْلِىqawlīmy speech
That they may understand my speech

20:28
29
وَٱجْعَل لِّى وَزِيرًۭا مِّنْ أَهْلِى
وَٱجْعَلwa-ij'ʿalAnd appointلِّىlīfor meوَزِيرًۭاwazīrana ministerمِّنْminfromأَهْلِىahlīmy family
And appoint for me a minister from my family

20:29
30
31
ٱشْدُدْ بِهِۦٓ أَزْرِى
ٱشْدُدْush'dudReinforceبِهِۦٓbihithrough himأَزْرِىazrīmy strength
Increase through him my strength
⤳ Link
20:31
32
وَأَشْرِكْهُ فِىٓ أَمْرِى
وَأَشْرِكْهُwa-ashrik'huAnd make him shareفِىٓfī[in]أَمْرِىamrīmy task
And let him share my task

20:32
33
كَىْ نُسَبِّحَكَ كَثِيرًۭا
كَىْkayThatنُسَبِّحَكَnusabbiḥakawe may glorify Youكَثِيرًۭاkathīranmuch
That we may exalt You much
⤳ Link
20:33
34
وَنَذْكُرَكَ كَثِيرًا
وَنَذْكُرَكَwanadhkurakaAnd [we] remember Youكَثِيرًاkathīranmuch
And remember You much

20:34
35
إِنَّكَ كُنتَ بِنَا بَصِيرًۭا
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, [You]كُنتَkuntaYou areبِنَاbināof usبَصِيرًۭاbaṣīranAll-Seer
Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing

20:35
36
قَالَ قَدْ أُوتِيتَ سُؤْلَكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidقَدْqadVerilyأُوتِيتَūtītayou are grantedسُؤْلَكَsu'lakayour requestيَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsāO Musa
[Allah] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses

20:36
37
وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَيْكَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَىٰٓ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeedمَنَنَّاmanannāWe conferred a favorعَلَيْكَʿalaykaon youمَرَّةًmarratananother timeأُخْرَىٰٓukh'rāanother time
And We had already conferred favor upon you another time

20:37
38
إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ
إِذْidhWhenأَوْحَيْنَآawḥaynāWe inspiredإِلَىٰٓilātoأُمِّكَummikayour motherمَاmāwhatيُوحَىٰٓyūḥāis inspired
When We inspired to your mother what We inspired

20:38
39
أَنِ ٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلتَّابُوتِ فَٱقْذِفِيهِ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ فَلْيُلْقِهِ ٱلْيَمُّ بِٱلسَّاحِلِ يَأْخُذْهُ عَدُوٌّۭ لِّى وَعَدُوٌّۭ لَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَلْقَيْتُ عَلَيْكَ مَحَبَّةًۭ مِّنِّى وَلِتُصْنَعَ عَلَىٰ عَيْنِىٓ
أَنِaniThatٱقْذِفِيهِiq'dhifīhicast himفِىfīinٱلتَّابُوتِl-tābūtithe chestفَٱقْذِفِيهِfa-iq'dhifīhithen cast itفِىfīinٱلْيَمِّl-yamithe riverفَلْيُلْقِهِfalyul'qihithen let cast itٱلْيَمُّl-yamuthe riverبِٱلسَّاحِلِbil-sāḥilion the bankيَأْخُذْهُyakhudh'huwill take himعَدُوٌّۭʿaduwwunan enemyلِّىlīto Meوَعَدُوٌّۭwaʿaduwwunand an enemyلَّهُۥ ۚlahuto himوَأَلْقَيْتُwa-alqaytuAnd I castعَلَيْكَʿalaykaover youمَحَبَّةًۭmaḥabbatanloveمِّنِّىminnīfrom Meوَلِتُصْنَعَwalituṣ'naʿaand that you may be brought upعَلَىٰʿalāunderعَيْنِىٓʿaynīMy eye
[Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye

20:39
40
إِذْ تَمْشِىٓ أُخْتُكَ فَتَقُولُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن يَكْفُلُهُۥ ۖ فَرَجَعْنَـٰكَ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ كَىْ تَقَرَّ عَيْنُهَا وَلَا تَحْزَنَ ۚ وَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًۭا فَنَجَّيْنَـٰكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَمِّ وَفَتَنَّـٰكَ فُتُونًۭا ۚ فَلَبِثْتَ سِنِينَ فِىٓ أَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ ثُمَّ جِئْتَ عَلَىٰ قَدَرٍۢ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
إِذْidhWhenتَمْشِىٓtamshīwas goingأُخْتُكَukh'tukayour sisterفَتَقُولُfataqūluand she saidهَلْhalShallأَدُلُّكُمْadullukumI show youعَلَىٰʿalā[to]مَنman(one) whoيَكْفُلُهُۥ ۖyakfuluhuwill nurse and rear himفَرَجَعْنَـٰكَfarajaʿnākaSo We returned youإِلَىٰٓilātoأُمِّكَummikayour motherكَىْkaythatتَقَرَّtaqarramay be cooledعَيْنُهَاʿaynuhāher eyesوَلَاwalāand notتَحْزَنَ ۚtaḥzanashe grievesوَقَتَلْتَwaqataltaAnd you killedنَفْسًۭاnafsana manفَنَجَّيْنَـٰكَfanajjaynākabut We saved youمِنَminafromٱلْغَمِّl-ghamithe distressوَفَتَنَّـٰكَwafatannākaand We tried youفُتُونًۭا ۚfutūnan(with) a trialفَلَبِثْتَfalabith'taThen you remainedسِنِينَsinīna(some) yearsفِىٓfīwithأَهْلِahli(the) peopleمَدْيَنَmadyana(of) MadyanثُمَّthummaThenجِئْتَji'tayou cameعَلَىٰʿalāatقَدَرٍۢqadarinthe decreed (time)يَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsāO Musa
[And We favored you] when your sister went and said, 'Shall I direct you to someone who will be responsible for him?' So We restored you to your mother that she might be content and not grieve. And you killed someone, but We saved you from retaliation and tried you with a [severe] trial. And you remained [some] years among the people of Madyan. Then you came [here] at the decreed time, O Moses

20:40
41
وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَ لِنَفْسِى
وَٱصْطَنَعْتُكَwa-iṣ'ṭanaʿtukaAnd I (have) chosen youلِنَفْسِىlinafsīfor Myself
And I produced you for Myself

20:41
42
ٱذْهَبْ أَنتَ وَأَخُوكَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِى وَلَا تَنِيَا فِى ذِكْرِى
ٱذْهَبْidh'habGoأَنتَantayouوَأَخُوكَwa-akhūkaand your brotherبِـَٔايَـٰتِىbiāyātīwith My Signsوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَنِيَاtaniyāslackenفِىfīinذِكْرِىdhik'rīMy remembrance
Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not slacken in My remembrance

20:42
43
ٱذْهَبَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
ٱذْهَبَآidh'habāGo, both of youإِلَىٰilātoفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heطَغَىٰṭaghā(has) transgressed
Go, both of you, to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed

44
فَقُولَا لَهُۥ قَوْلًۭا لَّيِّنًۭا لَّعَلَّهُۥ يَتَذَكَّرُ أَوْ يَخْشَىٰ
فَقُولَاfaqūlāAnd speakلَهُۥlahuto himقَوْلًۭاqawlana wordلَّيِّنًۭاlayyinangentleلَّعَلَّهُۥlaʿallahuperhaps heيَتَذَكَّرُyatadhakkarumay take heedأَوْaworيَخْشَىٰyakhshāfear
And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allah]

45
قَالَا رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَآ أَوْ أَن يَطْغَىٰ
قَالَاqālāThey saidرَبَّنَآrabbanāOur LordإِنَّنَاinnanāIndeed, weنَخَافُnakhāfufearأَنanthatيَفْرُطَyafruṭahe will hastenعَلَيْنَآʿalaynāagainst usأَوْaworأَنanthatيَطْغَىٰyaṭghāhe will transgress
They said, "Our Lord, indeed we are afraid that he will hasten [punishment] against us or that he will transgress

46
قَالَ لَا تَخَافَآ ۖ إِنَّنِى مَعَكُمَآ أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidلَاlā(Do) notتَخَافَآ ۖtakhāfāfearإِنَّنِىinnanīIndeed, I Amمَعَكُمَآmaʿakumāwith you bothأَسْمَعُasmaʿuI hearوَأَرَىٰwa-arāand I see
[Allah] said, "Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see

47
فَأْتِيَاهُ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولَا رَبِّكَ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَا تُعَذِّبْهُمْ ۖ قَدْ جِئْنَـٰكَ بِـَٔايَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۖ وَٱلسَّلَـٰمُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
فَأْتِيَاهُfatiyāhuSo go to himفَقُولَآfaqūlāand sayإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weرَسُولَاrasūlāboth (are) Messengersرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordفَأَرْسِلْfa-arsilso sendمَعَنَاmaʿanāwith usبَنِىٓbanī(the) Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(the) Children of Israelوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُعَذِّبْهُمْ ۖtuʿadhib'humtorment themقَدْqadVerilyجِئْنَـٰكَji'nākawe came to youبِـَٔايَةٍۢbiāyatinwith a Signمِّنminfromرَّبِّكَ ۖrabbikayour Lordوَٱلسَّلَـٰمُwal-salāmuAnd peaceعَلَىٰʿalāonمَنِmani(one) whoٱتَّبَعَittabaʿafollowsٱلْهُدَىٰٓl-hudāthe Guidance
So go to him and say, 'Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And peace will be upon he who follows the guidance

20:47
48
إِنَّا قَدْ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْنَآ أَنَّ ٱلْعَذَابَ عَلَىٰ مَن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, weقَدْqadverilyأُوحِىَūḥiyait has been revealedإِلَيْنَآilaynāto usأَنَّannathatٱلْعَذَابَl-ʿadhābathe punishmentعَلَىٰʿalā(will be) onمَنman(one) whoكَذَّبَkadhabadeniesوَتَوَلَّىٰwatawallāand turns away
Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment will be upon whoever denies and turns away

49
قَالَ فَمَن رَّبُّكُمَا يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidفَمَنfamanThen whoرَّبُّكُمَاrabbukumā(is) your LordيَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsāO Musa
[Pharaoh] said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses

50
قَالَ رَبُّنَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَعْطَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلْقَهُۥ ثُمَّ هَدَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidرَبُّنَاrabbunāOur Lordٱلَّذِىٓalladhī(is) the One Whoأَعْطَىٰaʿṭāgaveكُلَّkulla(to) everyشَىْءٍshayinthingخَلْقَهُۥkhalqahuits formثُمَّthummathenهَدَىٰhadāHe guided (it)
He said, "Our Lord is He who gave each thing its form and then guided [it]

51
قَالَ فَمَا بَالُ ٱلْقُرُونِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidفَمَاfamāThen whatبَالُbālu(is the) caseٱلْقُرُونِl-qurūni(of) the generationsٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlā(of) the former
[Pharaoh] said, "Then what is the case of the former generations

52
قَالَ عِلْمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّى فِى كِتَـٰبٍۢ ۖ لَّا يَضِلُّ رَبِّى وَلَا يَنسَى
قَالَqālaHe saidعِلْمُهَاʿil'muhāIts knowledgeعِندَʿinda(is) withرَبِّىrabbīmy Lordفِىfīinكِتَـٰبٍۢ ۖkitābina RecordلَّاlāNotيَضِلُّyaḍilluerrsرَبِّىrabbīmy Lordوَلَاwalāand notيَنسَىyansāforgets
[Moses] said, "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord in a record. My Lord neither errs nor forgets

53
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ مَهْدًۭا وَسَلَكَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًۭا وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّن نَّبَاتٍۢ شَتَّىٰ
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One Whoجَعَلَjaʿalamadeلَكُمُlakumufor youٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthمَهْدًۭاmahdan(as) a bedوَسَلَكَwasalakaand insertedلَكُمْlakumfor youفِيهَاfīhāthereinسُبُلًۭاsubulanwaysوَأَنزَلَwa-anzalaand sent downمِنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyمَآءًۭmāanwaterفَأَخْرَجْنَاfa-akhrajnāthen We (have) brought forthبِهِۦٓbihiwith itأَزْوَٰجًۭاazwājanpairsمِّنminofنَّبَاتٍۢnabātinplantsشَتَّىٰshattādiverse
[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants

54
كُلُوا۟ وَٱرْعَوْا۟ أَنْعَـٰمَكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلنُّهَىٰ
كُلُوا۟kulūEatوَٱرْعَوْا۟wa-ir'ʿawand pastureأَنْعَـٰمَكُمْ ۗanʿāmakumyour cattleإِنَّinnaIndeedفِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signsلِّأُو۟لِىli-ulīfor possessorsٱلنُّهَىٰl-nuhā(of) intelligence
Eat [therefrom] and pasture your livestock. Indeed, in that are signs for those of intelligence

55
۞ مِنْهَا خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَفِيهَا نُعِيدُكُمْ وَمِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ
۞ مِنْهَاmin'hāFrom itخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْkhalaqnākumWe created youوَفِيهَاwafīhāand in itنُعِيدُكُمْnuʿīdukumWe will return youوَمِنْهَاwamin'hāand from itنُخْرِجُكُمْnukh'rijukumWe will bring you outتَارَةًtāratantimeأُخْرَىٰukh'rāanother
From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time

56
وَلَقَدْ أَرَيْنَـٰهُ ءَايَـٰتِنَا كُلَّهَا فَكَذَّبَ وَأَبَىٰ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verilyأَرَيْنَـٰهُaraynāhuWe showed himءَايَـٰتِنَاāyātināOur Signsكُلَّهَاkullahāall of themفَكَذَّبَfakadhababut he deniedوَأَبَىٰwa-abāand refused
And We certainly showed Pharaoh Our signs - all of them - but he denied and refused

57
قَالَ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتُخْرِجَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِنَا بِسِحْرِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidأَجِئْتَنَاaji'tanāHave you come to usلِتُخْرِجَنَاlitukh'rijanāto drive us outمِنْminofأَرْضِنَاarḍināour landبِسِحْرِكَbisiḥ'rikawith your magicيَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsāO Musa
He said, "Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses

58
فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَ بِسِحْرٍۢ مِّثْلِهِۦ فَٱجْعَلْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكَ مَوْعِدًۭا لَّا نُخْلِفُهُۥ نَحْنُ وَلَآ أَنتَ مَكَانًۭا سُوًۭى
فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّكَfalanatiyannakaThen we will surely produce for youبِسِحْرٍۢbisiḥ'rinmagicمِّثْلِهِۦmith'lihilike itفَٱجْعَلْfa-ij'ʿalSo makeبَيْنَنَاbaynanābetween usوَبَيْنَكَwabaynakaand between youمَوْعِدًۭاmawʿidanan appointmentلَّاlānotنُخْلِفُهُۥnukh'lifuhuwe will fail itنَحْنُnaḥnu[we]وَلَآwalāand notأَنتَantayouمَكَانًۭاmakānan(in) a placeسُوًۭىsuwaneven
Then we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep and neither will you, in a place assigned

59
قَالَ مَوْعِدُكُمْ يَوْمُ ٱلزِّينَةِ وَأَن يُحْشَرَ ٱلنَّاسُ ضُحًۭى
قَالَqālaHe saidمَوْعِدُكُمْmawʿidukumYour appointmentيَوْمُyawmu(is on the) dayٱلزِّينَةِl-zīnati(of) the festivalوَأَنwa-anand thatيُحْشَرَyuḥ'sharawill be assembledٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe peopleضُحًۭىḍuḥan(at) forenoon
[Moses] said, "Your appointment is on the day of the festival when the people assemble at mid-morning

60
فَتَوَلَّىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فَجَمَعَ كَيْدَهُۥ ثُمَّ أَتَىٰ
فَتَوَلَّىٰfatawallāThen went awayفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraunفَجَمَعَfajamaʿaand put togetherكَيْدَهُۥkaydahuhis planثُمَّthummathenأَتَىٰatācame
So Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to Moses]

61
قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ وَيْلَكُمْ لَا تَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًۭا فَيُسْحِتَكُم بِعَذَابٍۢ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ
قَالَqālaSaidلَهُمlahumto themمُّوسَىٰmūsāMusaوَيْلَكُمْwaylakumWoe to youلَاlā(Do) notتَفْتَرُوا۟taftarūinventعَلَىʿalāagainstٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahكَذِبًۭاkadhibana lieفَيُسْحِتَكُمfayus'ḥitakumlest He will destroy youبِعَذَابٍۢ ۖbiʿadhābinwith a punishmentوَقَدْwaqadAnd verilyخَابَkhābahe failedمَنِmaniwhoٱفْتَرَىٰif'tarāinvented
Moses said to the magicians summoned by Pharaoh, "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allah or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood]

62
فَتَنَـٰزَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّجْوَىٰ
فَتَنَـٰزَعُوٓا۟fatanāzaʿūThen they disputedأَمْرَهُمamrahum(in) their affairبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumamong themوَأَسَرُّوا۟wa-asarrūand they kept secretٱلنَّجْوَىٰl-najwāthe private conversation
So they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation

63
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَٰنِ لَسَـٰحِرَٰنِ يُرِيدَانِ أَن يُخْرِجَاكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِمَا وَيَذْهَبَا بِطَرِيقَتِكُمُ ٱلْمُثْلَىٰ
قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey saidإِنْinIndeedهَـٰذَٰنِhādhānithese twoلَسَـٰحِرَٰنِlasāḥirāni[two] magiciansيُرِيدَانِyurīdānithey intendأَنanthatيُخْرِجَاكُمyukh'rijākumthey drive you outمِّنْminofأَرْضِكُمarḍikumyour landبِسِحْرِهِمَاbisiḥ'rihimāwith their magicوَيَذْهَبَاwayadhhabāand do awayبِطَرِيقَتِكُمُbiṭarīqatikumuwith your wayٱلْمُثْلَىٰl-muth'lāthe exemplary
They said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way

64
فَأَجْمِعُوا۟ كَيْدَكُمْ ثُمَّ ٱئْتُوا۟ صَفًّۭا ۚ وَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْيَوْمَ مَنِ ٱسْتَعْلَىٰ
فَأَجْمِعُوا۟fa-ajmiʿūSo put togetherكَيْدَكُمْkaydakumyour planثُمَّthummathenٱئْتُوا۟i'tūcomeصَفًّۭا ۚṣaffan(in) a lineوَقَدْwaqadAnd verilyأَفْلَحَaflaḥa(will be) successfulٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayمَنِmaniwhoٱسْتَعْلَىٰis'taʿlāovercomes
So resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in line. And he has succeeded today who overcomes

65
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِمَّآ أَن تُلْقِىَ وَإِمَّآ أَن نَّكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَلْقَىٰ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidيَـٰمُوسَىٰٓyāmūsāO MusaإِمَّآimmāEitherأَنan[that]تُلْقِىَtul'qiyayou throwوَإِمَّآwa-immāorأَنan[that]نَّكُونَnakūnawe will beأَوَّلَawwalathe firstمَنْmanwhoأَلْقَىٰalqāthrows
They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw

66
قَالَ بَلْ أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِن سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidبَلْbalNayأَلْقُوا۟ ۖalqūyou throwفَإِذَاfa-idhāThen beholdحِبَالُهُمْḥibāluhumTheir ropesوَعِصِيُّهُمْwaʿiṣiyyuhumand their staffsيُخَيَّلُyukhayyaluseemedإِلَيْهِilayhito himمِنminbyسِحْرِهِمْsiḥ'rihimtheir magicأَنَّهَاannahāthat theyتَسْعَىٰtasʿā(were) moving
He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes]

67
فَأَوْجَسَ فِى نَفْسِهِۦ خِيفَةًۭ مُّوسَىٰ
فَأَوْجَسَfa-awjasaSo sensedفِىfīinنَفْسِهِۦnafsihihimselfخِيفَةًۭkhīfatana fearمُّوسَىٰmūsāMusa
And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses

20:67
68
قُلْنَا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
قُلْنَاqul'nāWe saidلَاlā(Do) notتَخَفْtakhaffearإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, youأَنتَantayouٱلْأَعْلَىٰl-aʿlā(will be) superior
Allah said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior

69
وَأَلْقِ مَا فِى يَمِينِكَ تَلْقَفْ مَا صَنَعُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّمَا صَنَعُوا۟ كَيْدُ سَـٰحِرٍۢ ۖ وَلَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلسَّاحِرُ حَيْثُ أَتَىٰ
وَأَلْقِwa-alqiAnd throwمَاmāwhatفِىfī(is) inيَمِينِكَyamīnikayour right handتَلْقَفْtalqafit will swallow upمَاmāwhatصَنَعُوٓا۟ ۖṣanaʿūthey have madeإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyصَنَعُوا۟ṣanaʿūthey (have) madeكَيْدُkaydua trickسَـٰحِرٍۢ ۖsāḥirin(of) a magicianوَلَاwalāand notيُفْلِحُyuf'liḥuwill be successfulٱلسَّاحِرُl-sāḥiruthe magicianحَيْثُḥaythuwhereverأَتَىٰatāhe comes
And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is

70
فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سُجَّدًۭا قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ هَـٰرُونَ وَمُوسَىٰ
فَأُلْقِىَfa-ul'qiyaSo were thrown downٱلسَّحَرَةُl-saḥaratuthe magiciansسُجَّدًۭاsujjadanprostratingقَالُوٓا۟qālūThey saidءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believeبِرَبِّbirabbiin (the) Lordهَـٰرُونَhārūna(of) Harunوَمُوسَىٰwamūsāand Musa
So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses

71
قَالَ ءَامَنتُمْ لَهُۥ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱلسِّحْرَ ۖ فَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَـٰفٍۢ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ فِى جُذُوعِ ٱلنَّخْلِ وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ أَيُّنَآ أَشَدُّ عَذَابًۭا وَأَبْقَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidءَامَنتُمْāmantumYou believeلَهُۥlahu[to] himقَبْلَqablabeforeأَنْan[that]ءَاذَنَādhanaI gave permissionلَكُمْ ۖlakumto youإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heلَكَبِيرُكُمُlakabīrukumu(is) your chiefٱلَّذِىalladhīthe one whoعَلَّمَكُمُʿallamakumutaught youٱلسِّحْرَ ۖl-siḥ'rathe magicفَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّfala-uqaṭṭiʿannaSo surely I will cut offأَيْدِيَكُمْaydiyakumyour handsوَأَرْجُلَكُمwa-arjulakumand your feetمِّنْminofخِلَـٰفٍۢkhilāfinopposite sidesوَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْwala-uṣallibannakumand surely I will crucify youفِىfīonجُذُوعِjudhūʿi(the) trunksٱلنَّخْلِl-nakhli(of) date-palmsوَلَتَعْلَمُنَّwalataʿlamunnaand surely you will knowأَيُّنَآayyunāwhich of usأَشَدُّashaddu(is) more severeعَذَابًۭاʿadhāban(in) punishmentوَأَبْقَىٰwa-abqāand more lasting
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed him before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and you will surely know which of us is more severe in [giving] punishment and more enduring

72
قَالُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْثِرَكَ عَلَىٰ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنَ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنَا ۖ فَٱقْضِ مَآ أَنتَ قَاضٍ ۖ إِنَّمَا تَقْضِى هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَآ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidلَنlanNeverنُّؤْثِرَكَnu'thirakawe will prefer youعَلَىٰʿalāoverمَاmāwhatجَآءَنَاjāanāhas come to usمِنَminaofٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِl-bayinātithe clear proofsوَٱلَّذِىwa-alladhīand the One Whoفَطَرَنَا ۖfaṭaranācreated usفَٱقْضِfa-iq'ḍiSo decreeمَآmāwhateverأَنتَantayouقَاضٍ ۖqāḍin(are) decreeingإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyتَقْضِىtaqḍīyou can decreeهَـٰذِهِhādhihi(for) thisٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatalifeٱلدُّنْيَآl-dun'yā(of) the world
They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us. So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life

73
إِنَّآ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّنَا لِيَغْفِرَ لَنَا خَطَـٰيَـٰنَا وَمَآ أَكْرَهْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلسِّحْرِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, [we]ءَامَنَّاāmannāwe believeبِرَبِّنَاbirabbināin our Lordلِيَغْفِرَliyaghfirathat He may forgiveلَنَاlanāfor usخَطَـٰيَـٰنَاkhaṭāyānāour sinsوَمَآwamāand whatأَكْرَهْتَنَاakrahtanāyou compelled usعَلَيْهِʿalayhion itمِنَminaofٱلسِّحْرِ ۗl-siḥ'rithe magicوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahخَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) Bestوَأَبْقَىٰٓwa-abqāand Ever Lasting
Indeed, we have believed in our Lord that He may forgive us our sins and what you compelled us [to do] of magic. And Allah is better and more enduring

74
إِنَّهُۥ مَن يَأْتِ رَبَّهُۥ مُجْرِمًۭا فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heمَنmanwhoيَأْتِyaticomesرَبَّهُۥrabbahu(to) his Lordمُجْرِمًۭاmuj'riman(as) a criminalفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedلَهُۥlahufor himجَهَنَّمَjahannama(is) HellلَاlāNotيَمُوتُyamūtuhe will dieفِيهَاfīhāin itوَلَاwalāand notيَحْيَىٰyaḥyālive
Indeed, whoever comes to his Lord as a criminal - indeed, for him is Hell; he will neither die therein nor live

75
وَمَن يَأْتِهِۦ مُؤْمِنًۭا قَدْ عَمِلَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتُ ٱلْعُلَىٰ
وَمَنwamanBut whoeverيَأْتِهِۦyatihicomes to Himمُؤْمِنًۭاmu'minan(as) a believerقَدْqadverilyعَمِلَʿamilahe has doneٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deedsفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseلَهُمُlahumufor themٱلدَّرَجَـٰتُl-darajātu(will be) the ranksٱلْعُلَىٰl-ʿulā[the] high
But whoever comes to Him as a believer having done righteous deeds - for those will be the highest degrees [in position]

76
جَنَّـٰتُ عَدْنٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
جَنَّـٰتُjannātuGardensعَدْنٍۢʿadnin(of) Edenتَجْرِىtajrīflowsمِنminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath themٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُl-anhāruthe riversخَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnaabiding foreverفِيهَا ۚfīhāin itوَذَٰلِكَwadhālikaAnd thatجَزَآءُjazāu(is) the rewardمَنman(for him) whoتَزَكَّىٰtazakkāpurifies himself
Gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of one who purifies himself

20:76
77
وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى فَٱضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقًۭا فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ يَبَسًۭا لَّا تَخَـٰفُ دَرَكًۭا وَلَا تَخْشَىٰ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verilyأَوْحَيْنَآawḥaynāWe inspiredإِلَىٰilātoمُوسَىٰٓmūsāMusaأَنْanthatأَسْرِasriTravel by nightبِعِبَادِىbiʿibādīwith My slavesفَٱضْرِبْfa-iḍ'riband strikeلَهُمْlahumfor themطَرِيقًۭاṭarīqana pathفِىfīinٱلْبَحْرِl-baḥrithe seaيَبَسًۭاyabasandryلَّاlānotتَخَـٰفُtakhāfufearingدَرَكًۭاdarakanto be overtakenوَلَاwalāand notتَخْشَىٰtakhshābeing afraid
And We had inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]

78
فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ بِجُنُودِهِۦ فَغَشِيَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْيَمِّ مَا غَشِيَهُمْ
فَأَتْبَعَهُمْfa-atbaʿahumThen followed themفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraunبِجُنُودِهِۦbijunūdihiwith his forcesفَغَشِيَهُمfaghashiyahumbut covered themمِّنَminafromٱلْيَمِّl-yamithe seaمَاmāwhatغَشِيَهُمْghashiyahumcovered them
So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them

79
وَأَضَلَّ فِرْعَوْنُ قَوْمَهُۥ وَمَا هَدَىٰ
وَأَضَلَّwa-aḍallaAnd led astrayفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraunقَوْمَهُۥqawmahuhis peopleوَمَاwamāand (did) notهَدَىٰhadāguide them
And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them]

20:79
80
يَـٰبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ قَدْ أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم مِّنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ وَوَٰعَدْنَـٰكُمْ جَانِبَ ٱلطُّورِ ٱلْأَيْمَنَ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ
يَـٰبَنِىٓyābanīO Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīlaO Children of IsraelقَدْqadVerilyأَنجَيْنَـٰكُمanjaynākumWe delivered youمِّنْminfromعَدُوِّكُمْʿaduwwikumyour enemyوَوَٰعَدْنَـٰكُمْwawāʿadnākumand We made a covenant with youجَانِبَjānibaon (the) sideٱلطُّورِl-ṭūri(of) the Mountٱلْأَيْمَنَl-aymanathe rightوَنَزَّلْنَاwanazzalnāand We sent downعَلَيْكُمُʿalaykumuto youٱلْمَنَّl-manathe Mannaوَٱلسَّلْوَىٰwal-salwāand the quails
O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails

20:80
81
كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِيهِ فَيَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبِى ۖ وَمَن يَحْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ غَضَبِى فَقَدْ هَوَىٰ
كُلُوا۟kulūEatمِنminofطَيِّبَـٰتِṭayyibāti(the) good thingsمَاmāwhichرَزَقْنَـٰكُمْrazaqnākumWe have provided youوَلَاwalāand (do) notتَطْغَوْا۟taṭghawtransgressفِيهِfīhithereinفَيَحِلَّfayaḥillalest should descendعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon youغَضَبِى ۖghaḍabīMy AngerوَمَنwamanAnd whoeverيَحْلِلْyaḥlilon whom descendsعَلَيْهِʿalayhion whom descendsغَضَبِىghaḍabīMy Angerفَقَدْfaqadindeedهَوَىٰhawāhe (has) perished
[Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen

82
وَإِنِّى لَغَفَّارٌۭ لِّمَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا ثُمَّ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
وَإِنِّىwa-innīBut indeed, I Amلَغَفَّارٌۭlaghaffārunthe Perpetual Forgiverلِّمَنlimanof whoeverتَابَtābarepentsوَءَامَنَwaāmanaand believesوَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand doesصَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)ثُمَّthummathenٱهْتَدَىٰih'tadāremains guided
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance

83
۞ وَمَآ أَعْجَلَكَ عَن قَوْمِكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ
۞ وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَعْجَلَكَaʿjalakamade you hastenعَنʿanfromقَوْمِكَqawmikayour peopleيَـٰمُوسَىٰyāmūsāO Musa
[Allah] said, "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses

20:83
84
قَالَ هُمْ أُو۟لَآءِ عَلَىٰٓ أَثَرِى وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidهُمْhumTheyأُو۟لَآءِulāi(are) closeعَلَىٰٓʿalāuponأَثَرِىatharīmy tracksوَعَجِلْتُwaʿajil'tuand I hastenedإِلَيْكَilaykato youرَبِّrabbimy Lordلِتَرْضَىٰlitarḍāthat You be pleased
He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased

85
قَالَ فَإِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَلَّهُمُ ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
قَالَqālaHe saidفَإِنَّاfa-innāBut indeed, Weقَدْqad[verily]فَتَنَّاfatannāWe (have) triedقَوْمَكَqawmakayour peopleمِنۢminafter youبَعْدِكَbaʿdikaafter youوَأَضَلَّهُمُwa-aḍallahumuand has led them astrayٱلسَّامِرِىُّl-sāmiriyuthe Samiri
[Allah] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Samiri has led them astray

20:85
86
فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَـٰنَ أَسِفًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا ۚ أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدتُّمْ أَن يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُم مَّوْعِدِى
فَرَجَعَfarajaʿaThen Musa returnedمُوسَىٰٓmūsāThen Musa returnedإِلَىٰilātoقَوْمِهِۦqawmihihis peopleغَضْبَـٰنَghaḍbānaangryأَسِفًۭا ۚasifan(and) sorrowfulقَالَqālaHe saidيَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my peopleأَلَمْalamDid notيَعِدْكُمْyaʿid'kumpromise youرَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lordوَعْدًاwaʿdana promiseحَسَنًا ۚḥasanangoodأَفَطَالَafaṭālaThen, did seem longعَلَيْكُمُʿalaykumuto youٱلْعَهْدُl-ʿahduthe promiseأَمْamorأَرَدتُّمْaradttumdid you desireأَنanthatيَحِلَّyaḥilladescendعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon youغَضَبٌۭghaḍabun(the) Angerمِّنminofرَّبِّكُمْrabbikumyour Lordفَأَخْلَفْتُمfa-akhlaftumso you brokeمَّوْعِدِىmawʿidī(the) promise to me
So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me

20:86
87
قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَـٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَآ أَوْزَارًۭا مِّن زِينَةِ ٱلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَـٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidمَآmāNotأَخْلَفْنَاakhlafnāwe brokeمَوْعِدَكَmawʿidakapromise to youبِمَلْكِنَاbimalkināby our willوَلَـٰكِنَّاwalākinnābut weحُمِّلْنَآḥummil'nā[we] were made to carryأَوْزَارًۭاawzāranburdensمِّنminfromزِينَةِzīnatiornamentsٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmi(of) the peopleفَقَذَفْنَـٰهَاfaqadhafnāhāso we threw themفَكَذَٰلِكَfakadhālikaand thusأَلْقَىalqāthrewٱلسَّامِرِىُّl-sāmiriyuthe Samiri
They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Samiri throw

88
فَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ عِجْلًۭا جَسَدًۭا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌۭ فَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمْ وَإِلَـٰهُ مُوسَىٰ فَنَسِىَ
فَأَخْرَجَfa-akhrajaThen he brought forthلَهُمْlahumfor themعِجْلًۭاʿij'lana calf'sجَسَدًۭاjasadanbodyلَّهُۥlahuit hadخُوَارٌۭkhuwāruna lowing soundفَقَالُوا۟faqālūand they saidهَـٰذَآhādhāThisإِلَـٰهُكُمْilāhukum(is) your godوَإِلَـٰهُwa-ilāhuand the godمُوسَىٰmūsā(of) Musaفَنَسِىَfanasiyabut he forgot
And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot

89
أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًۭا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّۭا وَلَا نَفْعًۭا
أَفَلَاafalāThen, did notيَرَوْنَyarawnathey seeأَلَّاallāthat notيَرْجِعُyarjiʿuit (could) returnإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themقَوْلًۭاqawlana wordوَلَاwalāand notيَمْلِكُyamlikupossessلَهُمْlahumfor themضَرًّۭاḍarranany harmوَلَاwalāand notنَفْعًۭاnafʿanany benefit
Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit

90
وَلَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَـٰرُونُ مِن قَبْلُ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِنتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى وَأَطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرِى
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verilyقَالَqāla(had) saidلَهُمْlahumto themهَـٰرُونُhārūnuHarunمِنminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeيَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my peopleإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyفُتِنتُمfutintumyou are being testedبِهِۦ ۖbihiby itوَإِنَّwa-innaand indeedرَبَّكُمُrabbakumuyour Lordٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānu(is) the Most Graciousفَٱتَّبِعُونِىfa-ittabiʿūnīso follow meوَأَطِيعُوٓا۟wa-aṭīʿūand obeyأَمْرِىamrīmy order
And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order

91
قَالُوا۟ لَن نَّبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَـٰكِفِينَ حَتَّىٰ يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidلَنlanNeverنَّبْرَحَnabraḥawe will ceaseعَلَيْهِʿalayhibeing devoted to itعَـٰكِفِينَʿākifīnabeing devoted to itحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilيَرْجِعَyarjiʿareturnsإِلَيْنَاilaynāto usمُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
They said, "We will never cease being devoted to the calf until Moses returns to us

92
قَالَ يَـٰهَـٰرُونُ مَا مَنَعَكَ إِذْ رَأَيْتَهُمْ ضَلُّوٓا۟
قَالَqālaHe saidيَـٰهَـٰرُونُyāhārūnuO HarunمَاmāWhatمَنَعَكَmanaʿakaprevented youإِذْidhwhenرَأَيْتَهُمْra-aytahumyou saw themضَلُّوٓا۟ḍallūgoing astray
[Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray

20:92
93
أَلَّا تَتَّبِعَنِ ۖ أَفَعَصَيْتَ أَمْرِى
أَلَّاallāThat notتَتَّبِعَنِ ۖtattabiʿaniyou follow meأَفَعَصَيْتَafaʿaṣaytaThen, have you disobeyedأَمْرِىamrīmy order
From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order

94
قَالَ يَبْنَؤُمَّ لَا تَأْخُذْ بِلِحْيَتِى وَلَا بِرَأْسِىٓ ۖ إِنِّى خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقْتَ بَيْنَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَمْ تَرْقُبْ قَوْلِى
قَالَqālaHe saidيَبْنَؤُمَّyabna-ummaO son of my motherلَاlā(Do) notتَأْخُذْtakhudhseize (me)بِلِحْيَتِىbiliḥ'yatīby my beardوَلَاwalāand notبِرَأْسِىٓ ۖbirasīby my headإِنِّىinnīIndeed, Iخَشِيتُkhashītu[I] fearedأَنanthatتَقُولَtaqūlayou would sayفَرَّقْتَfarraqtaYou caused divisionبَيْنَbaynabetweenبَنِىٓbanī(the) Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(the) Children of Israelوَلَمْwalamand notتَرْقُبْtarqubyou respectقَوْلِىqawlīmy word
[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَـٰسَـٰمِرِىُّ
قَالَqālaHe saidفَمَاfamāThen whatخَطْبُكَkhaṭbuka(is) your caseيَـٰسَـٰمِرِىُّyāsāmiriyyuO Samiri
[Moses] said, "And what is your case, O Samiri

20:95
96
قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةًۭ مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِى نَفْسِى
قَالَqālaHe saidبَصُرْتُbaṣur'tuI perceivedبِمَاbimāwhatلَمْlamnotيَبْصُرُوا۟yabṣurūthey perceiveبِهِۦbihiin itفَقَبَضْتُfaqabaḍtuso I tookقَبْضَةًۭqabḍatana handfulمِّنْminfromأَثَرِathari(the) trackٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūli(of) the Messengerفَنَبَذْتُهَاfanabadhtuhāthen threw itوَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaand thusسَوَّلَتْsawwalatsuggestedلِىlīto meنَفْسِىnafsīmy soul
He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me

قَالَ فَٱذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ أَن تَقُولَ لَا مِسَاسَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَكَ مَوْعِدًۭا لَّن تُخْلَفَهُۥ ۖ وَٱنظُرْ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِكَ ٱلَّذِى ظَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفًۭا ۖ لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥ ثُمَّ لَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ نَسْفًا
قَالَqālaHe saidفَٱذْهَبْfa-idh'habThen goفَإِنَّfa-innaAnd indeedلَكَlakafor youفِىfīinٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayatithe lifeأَنanthatتَقُولَtaqūlayou will sayلَاlā(Do) notمِسَاسَ ۖmisāsatouchوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedلَكَlakafor youمَوْعِدًۭاmawʿidan(is) an appointmentلَّنlanneverتُخْلَفَهُۥ ۖtukh'lafahuyou will fail to (keep) itوَٱنظُرْwa-unẓurAnd lookإِلَىٰٓilāatإِلَـٰهِكَilāhikayour godٱلَّذِىalladhīthat whichظَلْتَẓaltayou have remainedعَلَيْهِʿalayhito itعَاكِفًۭا ۖʿākifandevotedلَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥlanuḥarriqannahuSurely we will burn itثُمَّthummathenلَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥlanansifannahucertainly we will scatter itفِىfīinٱلْيَمِّl-yamithe seaنَسْفًاnasfan(in) particles
[Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it into the sea with a blast

98
إِنَّمَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًۭا
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnlyإِلَـٰهُكُمُilāhukumuyour Godٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahٱلَّذِىalladhīthe Oneلَآlā(there is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّاillābutهُوَ ۚhuwaHeوَسِعَwasiʿaHe has encompassedكُلَّkullaallشَىْءٍshayinthingsعِلْمًۭاʿil'man(in) knowledge
Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge

99
كَذَٰلِكَ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ مَا قَدْ سَبَقَ ۚ وَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ مِن لَّدُنَّا ذِكْرًۭا
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusنَقُصُّnaquṣṣuWe relateعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youمِنْminfromأَنۢبَآءِanbāi(the) newsمَاmā(of) whatقَدْqadhas precededسَبَقَ ۚsabaqahas precededوَقَدْwaqadAnd certainlyءَاتَيْنَـٰكَātaynākaWe have given youمِنminfromلَّدُنَّاladunnāUsذِكْرًۭاdhik'rana Reminder
Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur'an

مَّنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَحْمِلُ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وِزْرًا
مَّنْmanWhoeverأَعْرَضَaʿraḍaturns awayعَنْهُʿanhufrom itفَإِنَّهُۥfa-innahuthen indeed, heيَحْمِلُyaḥmiluwill bearيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) Resurrectionوِزْرًاwiz'rana burden
Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden

101
خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهِ ۖ وَسَآءَ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ حِمْلًۭا
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnaAbiding foreverفِيهِ ۖfīhiin itوَسَآءَwasāaand evilلَهُمْlahumfor themيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionحِمْلًۭاḥim'lan(as) a load
[Abiding] eternally therein, and evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a load

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ ۚ وَنَحْشُرُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ زُرْقًۭا
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيُنفَخُyunfakhuwill be blownفِىfīinٱلصُّورِ ۚl-ṣūrithe Trumpetوَنَحْشُرُwanaḥshuruand We will gatherٱلْمُجْرِمِينَl-muj'rimīnathe criminalsيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayزُرْقًۭاzur'qanblue-eyed
The Day the Horn will be blown. And We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed

103
يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا عَشْرًۭا
يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَyatakhāfatūnaThey are murmuringبَيْنَهُمْbaynahumamong themselvesإِنinNotلَّبِثْتُمْlabith'tumyou remainedإِلَّاillāexcept (for)عَشْرًۭاʿashranten
They will murmur among themselves, "You remained not but ten [days in the world]

104
نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذْ يَقُولُ أَمْثَلُهُمْ طَرِيقَةً إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا يَوْمًۭا
نَّحْنُnaḥnuWeأَعْلَمُaʿlamuknow bestبِمَاbimāwhatيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey will sayإِذْidhwhenيَقُولُyaqūluwill sayأَمْثَلُهُمْamthaluhum(the) best of themطَرِيقَةًṭarīqatan(in) conductإِنinNotلَّبِثْتُمْlabith'tumyou remainedإِلَّاillāexcept (for)يَوْمًۭاyawmana day
We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, "You remained not but one day

105
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنسِفُهَا رَبِّى نَسْفًۭا
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَwayasalūnakaAnd they ask youعَنِʿaniaboutٱلْجِبَالِl-jibālithe mountainsفَقُلْfaqulso sayيَنسِفُهَاyansifuhāWill blast themرَبِّىrabbīmy Lordنَسْفًۭاnasfan(into) particles
And they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blow them away with a blast

106
فَيَذَرُهَا قَاعًۭا صَفْصَفًۭا
فَيَذَرُهَاfayadharuhāThen He will leave itقَاعًۭاqāʿana levelصَفْصَفًۭاṣafṣafanplain
And He will leave the earth a level plain

20:106
107
لَّا تَرَىٰ فِيهَا عِوَجًۭا وَلَآ أَمْتًۭا
لَّاlāNotتَرَىٰtarāyou will seeفِيهَاfīhāin itعِوَجًۭاʿiwajanany crookednessوَلَآwalāand notأَمْتًۭاamtanany curve
You will not see therein a depression or an elevation

20:107
108
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَّبِعُونَ ٱلدَّاعِىَ لَا عِوَجَ لَهُۥ ۖ وَخَشَعَتِ ٱلْأَصْوَاتُ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ فَلَا تَسْمَعُ إِلَّا هَمْسًۭا
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinOn that Dayيَتَّبِعُونَyattabiʿūnathey will followٱلدَّاعِىَl-dāʿiyathe callerلَاlānoعِوَجَʿiwajadeviationلَهُۥ ۖlahufrom itوَخَشَعَتِwakhashaʿatiAnd (will be) humbledٱلْأَصْوَاتُl-aṣwātuthe voicesلِلرَّحْمَـٰنِlilrraḥmānifor the Most Graciousفَلَاfalāso notتَسْمَعُtasmaʿuyou will hearإِلَّاillāexceptهَمْسًۭاhamsana faint sound
That Day, everyone will follow [the call of] the Caller [with] no deviation therefrom, and [all] voices will be stilled before the Most Merciful, so you will not hear except a whisper [of footsteps]

109
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا تَنفَعُ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَرَضِىَ لَهُۥ قَوْلًۭا
يَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhin(On) that Dayلَّاlānotتَنفَعُtanfaʿuwill benefitٱلشَّفَـٰعَةُl-shafāʿatuthe intercessionإِلَّاillāexceptمَنْman(to) whomأَذِنَadhinahas given permissionلَهُlahu[to him]ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānuthe Most Graciousوَرَضِىَwaraḍiyaand He has acceptedلَهُۥlahufor himقَوْلًۭاqawlana word
That Day, no intercession will benefit except [that of] one to whom the Most Merciful has given permission and has accepted his word

110
يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِهِۦ عِلْمًۭا
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knowsمَاmāwhatبَيْنَbayna(is) before themأَيْدِيهِمْaydīhim(is) before themوَمَاwamāand whatخَلْفَهُمْkhalfahum(is) behind themوَلَاwalāwhile notيُحِيطُونَyuḥīṭūnathey encompassبِهِۦbihiitعِلْمًۭاʿil'man(in) knowledge
Allah knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, but they do not encompass it in knowledge

111
۞ وَعَنَتِ ٱلْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَىِّ ٱلْقَيُّومِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْمًۭا
۞ وَعَنَتِwaʿanatiAnd (will be) humbledٱلْوُجُوهُl-wujūhuthe facesلِلْحَىِّlil'ḥayyibefore the Ever-Livingٱلْقَيُّومِ ۖl-qayūmithe Self-SubsistingوَقَدْwaqadAnd verilyخَابَkhābawill have failedمَنْman(he) whoحَمَلَḥamalacarriedظُلْمًۭاẓul'manwrongdoing
And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. And he will have failed who carries injustice

112
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌۭ فَلَا يَخَافُ ظُلْمًۭا وَلَا هَضْمًۭا
وَمَنwamanBut (he) whoيَعْمَلْyaʿmaldoesمِنَminaofٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātithe righteous deedsوَهُوَwahuwawhile heمُؤْمِنٌۭmu'minun(is) a believerفَلَاfalāthen notيَخَافُyakhāfuhe will fearظُلْمًۭاẓul'maninjusticeوَلَاwalāand notهَضْمًۭاhaḍmandeprivation
But he who does of righteous deeds while he is a believer - he will neither fear injustice nor deprivation

113
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَانًا عَرَبِيًّۭا وَصَرَّفْنَا فِيهِ مِنَ ٱلْوَعِيدِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ أَوْ يُحْدِثُ لَهُمْ ذِكْرًۭا
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusأَنزَلْنَـٰهُanzalnāhuWe have sent it downقُرْءَانًاqur'ānan(the) Quranعَرَبِيًّۭاʿarabiyyan(in) Arabicوَصَرَّفْنَاwaṣarrafnāand We have explainedفِيهِfīhiin itمِنَminaofٱلْوَعِيدِl-waʿīdithe warningsلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumthat they mayيَتَّقُونَyattaqūnafearأَوْaworيُحْدِثُyuḥ'dithuit may causeلَهُمْlahum[for] themذِكْرًۭاdhik'ranremembrance
And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance

114
فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًۭا
فَتَعَـٰلَىfataʿālāSo high (above all)ٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahٱلْمَلِكُl-malikuthe Kingٱلْحَقُّ ۗl-ḥaquthe TrueوَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَعْجَلْtaʿjalhastenبِٱلْقُرْءَانِbil-qur'āniwith the Quranمِنminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنan[that]يُقْضَىٰٓyuq'ḍāis completedإِلَيْكَilaykato youوَحْيُهُۥ ۖwaḥyuhuits revelationوَقُلwaquland sayرَّبِّrabbiMy Lordزِدْنِىzid'nīIncrease meعِلْمًۭاʿil'man(in) knowledge
So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge

115
وَلَقَدْ عَهِدْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ ءَادَمَ مِن قَبْلُ فَنَسِىَ وَلَمْ نَجِدْ لَهُۥ عَزْمًۭا
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd verilyعَهِدْنَآʿahid'nāWe made a covenantإِلَىٰٓilāwithءَادَمَādamaAdamمِنminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeفَنَسِىَfanasiyabut he forgotوَلَمْwalamand notنَجِدْnajidWe foundلَهُۥlahuin himعَزْمًۭاʿazmandetermination
And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination

116
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenقُلْنَاqul'nāWe saidلِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِlil'malāikatito the Angelsٱسْجُدُوا۟us'judūProstrateلِـَٔادَمَliādamato Adamفَسَجَدُوٓا۟fasajadūthen they prostratedإِلَّآillāexceptإِبْلِيسَib'līsaIblisأَبَىٰabāhe refused
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused

117
فَقُلْنَا يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا عَدُوٌّۭ لَّكَ وَلِزَوْجِكَ فَلَا يُخْرِجَنَّكُمَا مِنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ فَتَشْقَىٰٓ
فَقُلْنَاfaqul'nāThen We saidيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُyāādamuO AdamإِنَّinnaIndeedهَـٰذَاhādhāthisعَدُوٌّۭʿaduwwun(is) an enemyلَّكَlakato youوَلِزَوْجِكَwalizawjikaand to your wifeفَلَاfalāSo notيُخْرِجَنَّكُمَاyukh'rijannakumā(let) him drive you bothمِنَminafromٱلْجَنَّةِl-janatiParadiseفَتَشْقَىٰٓfatashqāso (that) you would suffer
So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer

118
إِنَّ لَكَ أَلَّا تَجُوعَ فِيهَا وَلَا تَعْرَىٰ
إِنَّinnaIndeedلَكَlakafor youأَلَّاallāthat notتَجُوعَtajūʿayou will be hungryفِيهَاfīhāthereinوَلَاwalāand notتَعْرَىٰtaʿrāyou will be unclothed
Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed

20:118
119
وَأَنَّكَ لَا تَظْمَؤُا۟ فِيهَا وَلَا تَضْحَىٰ
وَأَنَّكَwa-annakaAnd that youلَاlānotتَظْمَؤُا۟taẓma-uwill suffer from thirstفِيهَاfīhāthereinوَلَاwalāand notتَضْحَىٰtaḍḥāexposed to the sun's heat
And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun

20:119
120
فَوَسْوَسَ إِلَيْهِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ قَالَ يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ هَلْ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَىٰ شَجَرَةِ ٱلْخُلْدِ وَمُلْكٍۢ لَّا يَبْلَىٰ
فَوَسْوَسَfawaswasaThen whisperedإِلَيْهِilayhito himٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuShaitaanقَالَqālahe saidيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُyāādamuO AdamهَلْhalShallأَدُلُّكَadullukaI direct youعَلَىٰʿalātoشَجَرَةِshajarati(the) treeٱلْخُلْدِl-khul'di(of) the Eternityوَمُلْكٍۢwamul'kinand a kingdomلَّاlānotيَبْلَىٰyablā(that will) deteriorate
Then Satan whispered to him; he said, "O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate

121
فَأَكَلَا مِنْهَا فَبَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚ وَعَصَىٰٓ ءَادَمُ رَبَّهُۥ فَغَوَىٰ
فَأَكَلَاfa-akalāThen they both ateمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itفَبَدَتْfabadatso became apparentلَهُمَاlahumāto themسَوْءَٰتُهُمَاsawātuhumātheir shameوَطَفِقَاwaṭafiqāand they beganيَخْصِفَانِyakhṣifāni(to) fastenعَلَيْهِمَاʿalayhimāon themselvesمِنminfromوَرَقِwaraqi(the) leavesٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚl-janati(of) ParadiseوَعَصَىٰٓwaʿaṣāAnd Adam disobeyedءَادَمُādamuAnd Adam disobeyedرَبَّهُۥrabbahuhis Lordفَغَوَىٰfaghawāand erred
And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred

122
ثُمَّ ٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدَىٰ
ثُمَّthummaThenٱجْتَبَـٰهُij'tabāhuchose himرَبُّهُۥrabbuhuhis Lordفَتَابَfatābaand turnedعَلَيْهِʿalayhito himوَهَدَىٰwahadāand guided (him)
Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him]

20:122
123
قَالَ ٱهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًۢا ۖ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّى هُدًۭى فَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هُدَاىَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe saidٱهْبِطَاih'biṭāGo downمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itجَمِيعًۢا ۖjamīʿanallبَعْضُكُمْbaʿḍukumsome of youلِبَعْضٍlibaʿḍinto othersعَدُوٌّۭ ۖʿaduwwun(as) enemyفَإِمَّاfa-immāThen ifيَأْتِيَنَّكُمyatiyannakumcomes to youمِّنِّىminnīfrom Meهُدًۭىhudanguidanceفَمَنِfamanithen whoeverٱتَّبَعَittabaʿafollowsهُدَاىَhudāyaMy guidanceفَلَاfalāthen notيَضِلُّyaḍilluhe will go astrayوَلَاwalāand notيَشْقَىٰyashqāsuffer
[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]

20:123
124
وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَن ذِكْرِى فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ مَعِيشَةًۭ ضَنكًۭا وَنَحْشُرُهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ أَعْمَىٰ
وَمَنْwamanAnd whoeverأَعْرَضَaʿraḍaturns awayعَنʿanfromذِكْرِىdhik'rīMy remembranceفَإِنَّfa-innathen indeedلَهُۥlahufor himمَعِيشَةًۭmaʿīshatan(is) a lifeضَنكًۭاḍankanstraitenedوَنَحْشُرُهُۥwanaḥshuruhuand We will gather himيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the Resurrectionأَعْمَىٰaʿmāblind
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind

125
قَالَ رَبِّ لِمَ حَشَرْتَنِىٓ أَعْمَىٰ وَقَدْ كُنتُ بَصِيرًۭا
قَالَqālaHe will sayرَبِّrabbiMy LordلِمَlimaWhyحَشَرْتَنِىٓḥashartanīYou raised meأَعْمَىٰaʿmāblindوَقَدْwaqadwhile [verily]كُنتُkuntuI hadبَصِيرًۭاbaṣīransight
He will say, "My Lord, why have you raised me blind while I was [once] seeing

20:125
126
قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ أَتَتْكَ ءَايَـٰتُنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا ۖ وَكَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ تُنسَىٰ
قَالَqālaHe will sayكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusأَتَتْكَatatkacame to youءَايَـٰتُنَاāyātunāOur Signsفَنَسِيتَهَا ۖfanasītahābut you forgot themوَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaand thusٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayتُنسَىٰtunsāyou will be forgotten
[Allah] will say, "Thus did Our signs come to you, and you forgot them; and thus will you this Day be forgotten

20:126
127
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَنْ أَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنۢ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ ۚ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusنَجْزِىnajzīWe recompenseمَنْman(he) whoأَسْرَفَasrafatransgressesوَلَمْwalamand notيُؤْمِنۢyu'minbelievesبِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyātiin (the) Signsرَبِّهِۦ ۚrabbihi(of) his LordوَلَعَذَابُwalaʿadhābuAnd surely (the) punishmentٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhirati(of) the Hereafterأَشَدُّashaddu(is) more severeوَأَبْقَىٰٓwa-abqāand more lasting
And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring

128
أَفَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ يَمْشُونَ فِى مَسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلنُّهَىٰ
أَفَلَمْafalamThen has notيَهْدِyahdiit guidedلَهُمْlahum[for] themكَمْkamhow manyأَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāWe (have) destroyedقَبْلَهُمqablahumbefore themمِّنَminaofٱلْقُرُونِl-qurūnithe generationsيَمْشُونَyamshūna(as) they walkفِىfīinمَسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۗmasākinihimtheir dwellingsإِنَّinnaIndeedفِىfīinذَٰلِكَdhālikathatلَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢlaāyātinsurely (are) Signsلِّأُو۟لِىli-ulīfor possessorsٱلنُّهَىٰl-nuhā(of) intelligence
Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence

وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌۭ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَكَانَ لِزَامًۭا وَأَجَلٌۭ مُّسَمًّۭى
وَلَوْلَاwalawlāAnd if notكَلِمَةٌۭkalimatun(for) a Wordسَبَقَتْsabaqat(that) precededمِنminfromرَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lordلَكَانَlakānasurely (would) have beenلِزَامًۭاlizāmanan obligationوَأَجَلٌۭwa-ajalunand a termمُّسَمًّۭىmusammandetermined
And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, punishment would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed]

130
فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا ۖ وَمِنْ ءَانَآئِ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْ وَأَطْرَافَ ٱلنَّهَارِ لَعَلَّكَ تَرْضَىٰ
فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patientعَلَىٰʿalāoverمَاmāwhatيَقُولُونَyaqūlūnathey sayوَسَبِّحْwasabbiḥand glorifyبِحَمْدِbiḥamdiwith praiseرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordقَبْلَqablabeforeطُلُوعِṭulūʿi(the) risingٱلشَّمْسِl-shamsi(of) the sunوَقَبْلَwaqablaand beforeغُرُوبِهَا ۖghurūbihāits settingوَمِنْwaminand fromءَانَآئِānāi(the) hoursٱلَّيْلِal-layli(of) the nightفَسَبِّحْfasabbiḥand glorifyوَأَطْرَافَwa-aṭrāfa(at the) endsٱلنَّهَارِl-nahāri(of) the dayلَعَلَّكَlaʿallakaso that you mayتَرْضَىٰtarḍābe satisfied
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied

131
وَلَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّنْهُمْ زَهْرَةَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَرِزْقُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰ
وَلَاwalāAnd (do) notتَمُدَّنَّtamuddannaextendعَيْنَيْكَʿaynaykayour eyesإِلَىٰilātowardsمَاmāwhatمَتَّعْنَاmattaʿnāWe have given for enjoymentبِهِۦٓbihi[with it]أَزْوَٰجًۭاazwājanpairsمِّنْهُمْmin'humof themزَهْرَةَzahrata(the) splendorٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayati(of) the lifeٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldلِنَفْتِنَهُمْlinaftinahumthat We may test themفِيهِ ۚfīhiin itوَرِزْقُwariz'quAnd (the) provisionرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordخَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) betterوَأَبْقَىٰwa-abqāand more lasting
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring

20:131
132
وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَٱصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا ۖ لَا نَسْـَٔلُكَ رِزْقًۭا ۖ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكَ ۗ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ
وَأْمُرْwamurAnd enjoinأَهْلَكَahlaka(on) your familyبِٱلصَّلَوٰةِbil-ṣalatithe prayerوَٱصْطَبِرْwa-iṣ'ṭabirand be steadfastعَلَيْهَا ۖʿalayhāthereinلَاlāNotنَسْـَٔلُكَnasalukaWe ask youرِزْقًۭا ۖriz'qan(for) provisionنَّحْنُnaḥnuWeنَرْزُقُكَ ۗnarzuqukaprovide (for) youوَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُwal-ʿāqibatuand the outcomeلِلتَّقْوَىٰlilttaqwā(is) for the righteous[ness]
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness

20:132
133
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا يَأْتِينَا بِـَٔايَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۚ أَوَلَمْ تَأْتِهِم بَيِّنَةُ مَا فِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ
وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they sayلَوْلَاlawlāWhy notيَأْتِينَاyatīnāhe brings usبِـَٔايَةٍۢbiāyatina signمِّنminfromرَّبِّهِۦٓ ۚrabbihihis LordأَوَلَمْawalamHas notتَأْتِهِمtatihimcome to themبَيِّنَةُbayyinatuevidenceمَاmā(of) whatفِىfī(was) inٱلصُّحُفِl-ṣuḥufithe Scripturesٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlāthe former
And they say, "Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?" Has there not come to them evidence of what was in the former scriptures

20:133
134
وَلَوْ أَنَّآ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم بِعَذَابٍۢ مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ لَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَوْلَآ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًۭا فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَـٰتِكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن نَّذِلَّ وَنَخْزَىٰ
وَلَوْwalawAnd ifأَنَّآannāWeأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمahlaknāhum(had) destroyed themبِعَذَابٍۢbiʿadhābinwith a punishmentمِّنminbefore himقَبْلِهِۦqablihibefore himلَقَالُوا۟laqālūsurely they (would) have saidرَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lordلَوْلَآlawlāwhy notأَرْسَلْتَarsaltaYou sentإِلَيْنَاilaynāto usرَسُولًۭاrasūlana Messengerفَنَتَّبِعَfanattabiʿaso we (could) have followedءَايَـٰتِكَāyātikaYour signsمِنminbeforeقَبْلِqablibeforeأَنan[that]نَّذِلَّnadhillawe were humiliatedوَنَخْزَىٰwanakhzāand disgraced
And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced

20:134
135
قُلْ كُلٌّۭ مُّتَرَبِّصٌۭ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ ٱلسَّوِىِّ وَمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
قُلْqulSayكُلٌّۭkullunEachمُّتَرَبِّصٌۭmutarabbiṣun(is) waitingفَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ ۖfatarabbaṣūso awaitفَسَتَعْلَمُونَfasataʿlamūnaThen you will knowمَنْmanwhoأَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companionsٱلصِّرَٰطِl-ṣirāṭi(of) the wayٱلسَّوِىِّl-sawiyi[the] evenوَمَنِwamaniand whoٱهْتَدَىٰih'tadāis guided
Say, "Each [of us] is waiting; so wait. For you will know who are the companions of the sound path and who is guided
