Surah 104 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ الهُمَزَةِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
وَيْلٌۭ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍۢ لُّمَزَةٍ
وَيْلٌۭwaylunWoeلِّكُلِّlikullito everyهُمَزَةٍۢhumazatinslandererلُّمَزَةٍlumazatinbackbiter
Woe to every scorner and mocker

104:1
2
ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًۭا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe one whoجَمَعَjamaʿacollectsمَالًۭاmālanwealthوَعَدَّدَهُۥwaʿaddadahuand counts it
Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it

3
يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَهُۥ
يَحْسَبُyaḥsabuThinkingأَنَّannathatمَالَهُۥٓmālahuhis wealthأَخْلَدَهُۥakhladahuwill make him immortal
He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal

4
كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ
كَلَّا ۖkallāNayلَيُنۢبَذَنَّlayunbadhannaSurely he will be thrownفِىfīinٱلْحُطَمَةِl-ḥuṭamatithe Crusher
No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher

5
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحُطَمَةُ
وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَadrākawill make you knowمَاmāwhatٱلْحُطَمَةُl-ḥuṭamatuthe Crusher (is)
And what can make you know what is the Crusher

6
نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُوقَدَةُ
نَارُnāruA Fireٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahٱلْمُوقَدَةُl-mūqadatukindled
It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled

ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِ
ٱلَّتِىallatīWhichتَطَّلِعُtaṭṭaliʿumounts upعَلَىʿalātoٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِl-afidatithe hearts
Which mounts directed at the hearts

8
إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌۭ
إِنَّهَاinnahāIndeed, itعَلَيْهِمʿalayhim(will be) upon themمُّؤْصَدَةٌۭmu'ṣadatunclosed over
Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them

فِى عَمَدٍۢ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ
فِىfīInعَمَدٍۢʿamadincolumnsمُّمَدَّدَةٍۭmumaddadatinextended
