Surah 105 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ الفِيلِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ
أَلَمْalamHave notتَرَtarayou seenكَيْفَkayfahowفَعَلَfaʿaladealtرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordبِأَصْحَـٰبِbi-aṣḥābiwith (the) Companionsٱلْفِيلِl-fīli(of the) Elephant
Have you not considered, [O Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant

105:1
2
أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍۢ
أَلَمْalamDid notيَجْعَلْyajʿalHe makeكَيْدَهُمْkaydahumtheir planفِىfīgoتَضْلِيلٍۢtaḍlīlinastray
Did He not make their plan into misguidance

وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ
وَأَرْسَلَwa-arsalaAnd He sentعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimagainst themطَيْرًاṭayranbirdsأَبَابِيلَabābīla(in) flocks
And He sent against them birds in flocks

تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍۢ مِّن سِجِّيلٍۢ
تَرْمِيهِمtarmīhimStriking themبِحِجَارَةٍۢbiḥijāratinwith stonesمِّنminofسِجِّيلٍۢsijjīlinbaked clay
Striking them with stones of hard clay

فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍۢ مَّأْكُولٍۭ
فَجَعَلَهُمْfajaʿalahumThen He made themكَعَصْفٍۢkaʿaṣfinlike strawمَّأْكُولٍۭmakūlineaten up
And He made them like eaten straw
