Surah 82 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ الانفِطَارِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتْ
إِذَاidhāWhenٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe skyٱنفَطَرَتْinfaṭarat(is) cleft asunder
When the sky breaks apart

82:1
2
وَإِذَا ٱلْكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتْ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenٱلْكَوَاكِبُl-kawākibuthe starsٱنتَثَرَتْintatharatscatter
And when the stars fall, scattering

82:2
3
وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenٱلْبِحَارُl-biḥāruthe seasفُجِّرَتْfujjiratare made to gush forth
And when the seas are erupted

82:3
4
وَإِذَا ٱلْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenٱلْقُبُورُl-qubūruthe gravesبُعْثِرَتْbuʿ'thiratare overturned
And when the [contents of] graves are scattered

5
عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌۭ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ
عَلِمَتْʿalimatWill knowنَفْسٌۭnafsuna soulمَّاmāwhatقَدَّمَتْqaddamatit has sent forthوَأَخَّرَتْwa-akharatand left behind
A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back

6
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāOٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānumanمَاmāWhatغَرَّكَgharrakahas deceived youبِرَبِّكَbirabbikaconcerning your Lordٱلْكَرِيمِl-karīmithe Most Noble
O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous

82:6
7
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ
ٱلَّذِىalladhīWhoخَلَقَكَkhalaqakacreated youفَسَوَّىٰكَfasawwākathen fashioned youفَعَدَلَكَfaʿadalakathen balanced you
Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you

82:7
8
فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍۢ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ
فِىٓfīInأَىِّayyiwhateverصُورَةٍۢṣūratinformمَّاmāwhatشَآءَshāaHe willedرَكَّبَكَrakkabakaHe assembled you
In whatever form He willed has He assembled you

82:8
9
كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ
كَلَّاkallāNayبَلْbalButتُكَذِّبُونَtukadhibūnayou denyبِٱلدِّينِbil-dīnithe Judgment
No! But you deny the Recompense

82:9
10
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَـٰفِظِينَ
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumover youلَحَـٰفِظِينَlaḥāfiẓīna(are) surely guardians
And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers

11
كِرَامًۭا كَـٰتِبِينَ
كِرَامًۭاkirāmanNobleكَـٰتِبِينَkātibīnarecording
Noble and recording

82:11
12
يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ
يَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaThey knowمَاmāwhateverتَفْعَلُونَtafʿalūnayou do
They know whatever you do

82:12
13
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍۢ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلْأَبْرَارَl-abrārathe righteousلَفِىlafī(will be) surely inنَعِيمٍۢnaʿīminbliss
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

14
وَإِنَّ ٱلْفُجَّارَ لَفِى جَحِيمٍۢ
وَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedٱلْفُجَّارَl-fujārathe wickedلَفِىlafī(will be) surely inجَحِيمٍۢjaḥīminHellfire
And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire

15
يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
يَصْلَوْنَهَاyaṣlawnahāThey will burn (in) itيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment
They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense

16
وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ
وَمَاwamāAnd notهُمْhumtheyعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom itبِغَآئِبِينَbighāibīna(will be) absent
And never therefrom will they be absent

17
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ
وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَadrākacan make you knowمَاmāwhatيَوْمُyawmu(is the) Dayٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment
And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense

18
ثُمَّ مَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ
ثُمَّthummaThenمَآmāwhatأَدْرَىٰكَadrākacan make you knowمَاmāwhatيَوْمُyawmu(is the) Dayٱلدِّينِl-dīni(of) the Judgment
Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense

19
يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌۭ لِّنَفْسٍۢ شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ وَٱلْأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلَّهِ
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayلَاlānotتَمْلِكُtamlikuwill have powerنَفْسٌۭnafsuna soulلِّنَفْسٍۢlinafsinfor a soulشَيْـًۭٔا ۖshayananythingوَٱلْأَمْرُwal-amruand the Commandيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayلِّلَّهِlillahi(will be) with Allah
It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah
