وَوَصَّيْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ إِحْسَٰنًا ۖ حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُۥ كُرْهًۭا وَوَضَعَتْهُ كُرْهًۭا ۖ وَحَمْلُهُۥ وَفِصَٰلُهُۥ ثَلَٰثُونَ شَهْرًا ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ وَبَلَغَ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةًۭ قَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِىٓ أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَىَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَٰلِحًۭا تَرْضَىٰهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِى فِى ذُرِّيَّتِىٓ ۖ إِنِّى تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّى مِنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ

wawaṣṣaynā l-insāna biwālidayhi iḥ'sānan ḥamalathu ummuhu kur'han wawaḍaʿathu kur'han waḥamluhu wafiṣāluhu thalāthūna shahran ḥattā idhā balagha ashuddahu wabalagha arbaʿīna sanatan qāla rabbi awziʿ'nī an ashkura niʿ'mataka allatī anʿamta ʿalayya waʿalā wālidayya wa-an aʿmala ṣāliḥan tarḍāhu wa-aṣliḥ lī fī dhurriyyatī innī tub'tu ilayka wa-innī mina l-mus'limīna

Meaning

And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims

  1. وَوَصَّيْنَاwawaṣṣaynāAnd We have enjoined

  6. أُمُّهُۥummuhuhis mother
  7. كُرْهًۭاkur'han(with) hardship
  8. وَوَضَعَتْهُwawaḍaʿathuand gave birth to him
  9. كُرْهًۭا ۖkur'han(with) hardship
  10. وَحَمْلُهُۥwaḥamluhuAnd (the) bearing of him
  11. وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥwafiṣāluhuand (the) weaning of him
  12. ثَلَـٰثُونَthalāthūna(is) thirty
  13. شَهْرًا ۚshahranmonth(s)
  14. حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntil
  15. إِذَاidhāwhen
  16. بَلَغَbalaghahe reaches
  17. أَشُدَّهُۥashuddahuhis maturity
  18. وَبَلَغَwabalaghaand reaches
  19. أَرْبَعِينَarbaʿīnaforty
  20. سَنَةًۭsanatanyear(s)
  21. قَالَqālahe says
  22. رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
  23. أَوْزِعْنِىٓawziʿ'nīgrant me (the) power
  24. أَنْanthat
  25. أَشْكُرَashkuraI may be grateful
  26. نِعْمَتَكَniʿ'mataka(for) Your favor
  27. ٱلَّتِىٓallatīwhich
  28. أَنْعَمْتَanʿamtaYou have bestowed
  29. عَلَىَّʿalayyaupon me
  30. وَعَلَىٰwaʿalāand upon
  31. وَٰلِدَىَّwālidayyamy parents
  32. وَأَنْwa-anand that
  33. أَعْمَلَaʿmalaI do
  34. صَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)
  35. تَرْضَىٰهُtarḍāhuwhich please You
  36. وَأَصْلِحْwa-aṣliḥand make righteous
  37. لِىlīfor me
  38. فِىfīamong
  39. ذُرِّيَّتِىٓ ۖdhurriyyatīmy offspring
  40. إِنِّىinnīindeed
  41. تُبْتُtub'tuI turn
  42. إِلَيْكَilaykato You
  43. وَإِنِّىwa-innīand indeed, I am
  44. مِنَminaof
  45. ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَl-mus'limīnathose who submit
