بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
حمٓ
حمٓhha-meemHa Meem
Ha, Meem
⤳ Link 40:1
2
تَنزِيلُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ
تَنزِيلُtanzīlu(The) revelationٱلْكِتَـٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Bookمِنَmina(is) fromٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahٱلْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzithe All-Mightyٱلْعَلِيمِl-ʿalīmithe All-Knower
The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Knowing
⤳ Link 40:2
3
غَافِرِ ٱلذَّنۢبِ وَقَابِلِ ٱلتَّوْبِ شَدِيدِ ٱلْعِقَابِ ذِى ٱلطَّوْلِ ۖ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ إِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
غَافِرِghāfiri(The) Forgiverٱلذَّنۢبِl-dhanbi(of) the sinوَقَابِلِwaqābiliand (the) Acceptorٱلتَّوْبِl-tawbi(of) [the] repentanceشَدِيدِshadīdisevereٱلْعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi(in) the punishmentذِىdhīOwner (of) the abundanceٱلطَّوْلِ ۖl-ṭawliOwner (of) the abundanceلَآ(There is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَ ۖhuwaHimإِلَيْهِilayhito Himٱلْمَصِيرُl-maṣīru(is) the final return
The forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination
⤳ Link 40:3
4
مَا يُجَـٰدِلُ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَلَا يَغْرُرْكَ تَقَلُّبُهُمْ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
مَاNotيُجَـٰدِلُyujādiludisputeفِىٓconcerningءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Versesٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahإِلَّاillāexceptٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveفَلَاfalāso (let) notيَغْرُرْكَyaghrur'kadeceive youتَقَلُّبُهُمْtaqallubuhumtheir movementفِىinٱلْبِلَـٰدِl-bilādithe cities
No one disputes concerning the signs of Allah except those who disbelieve, so be not deceived by their [uninhibited] movement throughout the land

5
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍۢ وَٱلْأَحْزَابُ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۖ وَهَمَّتْ كُلُّ أُمَّةٍۭ بِرَسُولِهِمْ لِيَأْخُذُوهُ ۖ وَجَـٰدَلُوا۟ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا۟ بِهِ ٱلْحَقَّ فَأَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ
كَذَّبَتْkadhabatDeniedقَبْلَهُمْqablahumbefore themقَوْمُqawmu(the) peopleنُوحٍۢnūḥin(of) Nuhوَٱلْأَحْزَابُwal-aḥzābuand the factionsمِنۢminafter themبَعْدِهِمْ ۖbaʿdihimafter themوَهَمَّتْwahammatand plottedكُلُّkullueveryأُمَّةٍۭummatinnationبِرَسُولِهِمْbirasūlihimagainst their Messengerلِيَأْخُذُوهُ ۖliyakhudhūhuto seize himوَجَـٰدَلُوا۟wajādalūand they disputedبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِbil-bāṭiliby falsehoodلِيُدْحِضُوا۟liyud'ḥiḍūto refuteبِهِbihitherebyٱلْحَقَّl-ḥaqathe truthفَأَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖfa-akhadhtuhumSo I seized themفَكَيْفَfakayfaThen howكَانَkānawasعِقَابِʿiqābiMy penalty
The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty
⤳ Link 40:5
6
وَكَذَٰلِكَ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusحَقَّتْḥaqqathas been justifiedكَلِمَتُkalimatu(the) Wordرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordعَلَىʿalāagainstٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوٓا۟kafarūdisbelievedأَنَّهُمْannahumthat theyأَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(are) companionsٱلنَّارِl-nāri(of) the Fire
And thus has the word of your Lord come into effect upon those who disbelieved that they are companions of the Fire
⤳ Link 40:6
7
ٱلَّذِينَ يَحْمِلُونَ ٱلْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُۥ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ رَبَّنَا وَسِعْتَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍۢ رَّحْمَةًۭ وَعِلْمًۭا فَٱغْفِرْ لِلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ سَبِيلَكَ وَقِهِمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيَحْمِلُونَyaḥmilūnabearٱلْعَرْشَl-ʿarshathe Throneوَمَنْwamanand whoحَوْلَهُۥḥawlahu(are) around itيُسَبِّحُونَyusabbiḥūnaglorifyبِحَمْدِbiḥamdi(the) praisesرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lordوَيُؤْمِنُونَwayu'minūnaand believeبِهِۦbihiin Himوَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَwayastaghfirūnaand ask forgivenessلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveرَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lordوَسِعْتَwasiʿ'taYou encompassكُلَّkullaallشَىْءٍۢshayinthingsرَّحْمَةًۭraḥmatan(by Your) Mercyوَعِلْمًۭاwaʿil'manand knowledgeفَٱغْفِرْfa-igh'firso forgiveلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnathose whoتَابُوا۟tābūrepentوَٱتَّبَعُوا۟wa-ittabaʿūand followسَبِيلَكَsabīlakaYour Wayوَقِهِمْwaqihimand save them (from)عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishmentٱلْجَحِيمِl-jaḥīmi(of) the Hellfire
Those [angels] who carry the Throne and those around it exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who have believed, [saying], "Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire

8
رَبَّنَا وَأَدْخِلْهُمْ جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ ٱلَّتِى وَعَدتَّهُمْ وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنْ ءَابَآئِهِمْ وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
رَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lordوَأَدْخِلْهُمْwa-adkhil'humAnd admit themجَنَّـٰتِjannāti(to) Gardensعَدْنٍʿadnin(of) EdenٱلَّتِىallatīwhichوَعَدتَّهُمْwaʿadttahumYou have promised themوَمَنwamanand whoeverصَلَحَṣalaḥa(was) righteousمِنْminamongءَابَآئِهِمْābāihimtheir fathersوَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْwa-azwājihimand their spousesوَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۚwadhurriyyātihimand their offspringإِنَّكَinnakaIndeed YouأَنتَantaYouٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(are) the All-Mightyٱلْحَكِيمُl-ḥakīmuthe All-Wise
Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their fathers, their spouses and their offspring. Indeed, it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise
⤳ Link 40:8
9
وَقِهِمُ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚ وَمَن تَقِ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ فَقَدْ رَحِمْتَهُۥ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
وَقِهِمُwaqihimuAnd protect themٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚl-sayiāti(from) the evilsوَمَنwamanAnd whoeverتَقِtaqiyou protectٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِl-sayiāti(from) the evilsيَوْمَئِذٍۢyawma-idhinthat Dayفَقَدْfaqadthen verilyرَحِمْتَهُۥ ۚraḥim'tahuYou have bestowed mercy on himوَذَٰلِكَwadhālikaAnd thatهُوَhuwa[it]ٱلْفَوْزُl-fawzu(is) the successٱلْعَظِيمُl-ʿaẓīmuthe great
And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment
⤳ Link 40:9
10
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُنَادَوْنَ لَمَقْتُ ٱللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ مِن مَّقْتِكُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ إِذْ تُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ فَتَكْفُرُونَ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelievedيُنَادَوْنَyunādawnawill be cried out to themلَمَقْتُlamaqtuCertainly Allah's hatredٱللَّهِl-lahiCertainly Allah's hatredأَكْبَرُakbaru(was) greaterمِنminthanمَّقْتِكُمْmaqtikumyour hatredأَنفُسَكُمْanfusakum(of) yourselvesإِذْidhwhenتُدْعَوْنَtud'ʿawnayou were calledإِلَىilātoٱلْإِيمَـٰنِl-īmānithe faithفَتَكْفُرُونَfatakfurūnaand you disbelieved
Indeed, those who disbelieve will be addressed, "The hatred of Allah for you was [even] greater than your hatred of yourselves [this Day in Hell] when you were invited to faith, but you refused
⤳ Link 40:10
11
قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَمَتَّنَا ٱثْنَتَيْنِ وَأَحْيَيْتَنَا ٱثْنَتَيْنِ فَٱعْتَرَفْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا فَهَلْ إِلَىٰ خُرُوجٍۢ مِّن سَبِيلٍۢ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey (will) sayرَبَّنَآrabbanāOur LordأَمَتَّنَاamattanāYou gave us deathٱثْنَتَيْنِith'nataynitwiceوَأَحْيَيْتَنَاwa-aḥyaytanāand You gave us lifeٱثْنَتَيْنِith'nataynitwiceفَٱعْتَرَفْنَاfa-iʿ'tarafnāand we confessبِذُنُوبِنَاbidhunūbināour sinsفَهَلْfahalSo is (there)إِلَىٰilātoخُرُوجٍۢkhurūjinget outمِّنminanyسَبِيلٍۢsabīlinway
They will say, "Our Lord, You made us lifeless twice and gave us life twice, and we have confessed our sins. So is there to an exit any way
⤳ Link 40:11
12
ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّهُۥٓ إِذَا دُعِىَ ٱللَّهُ وَحْدَهُۥ كَفَرْتُمْ ۖ وَإِن يُشْرَكْ بِهِۦ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ ۚ فَٱلْحُكْمُ لِلَّهِ ٱلْعَلِىِّ ٱلْكَبِيرِ
ذَٰلِكُمdhālikumThatبِأَنَّهُۥٓbi-annahu(is) becauseإِذَاidhāwhenدُعِىَduʿiyaAllah was invokedٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah was invokedوَحْدَهُۥwaḥdahuAloneكَفَرْتُمْ ۖkafartumyou disbelievedوَإِنwa-inbut ifيُشْرَكْyush'rak(others) were associatedبِهِۦbihiwith Himتُؤْمِنُوا۟ ۚtu'minūyou believedفَٱلْحُكْمُfal-ḥuk'muSo the judgmentلِلَّهِlillahi(is) with Allahٱلْعَلِىِّl-ʿaliyithe Most Highٱلْكَبِيرِl-kabīrithe Most Great
[They will be told], "That is because, when Allah was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allah, the Most High, the Grand
⤳ Link 40:12
13
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُرِيكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقًۭا ۚ وَمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ إِلَّا مَن يُنِيبُ
هُوَhuwaHeٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Whoيُرِيكُمْyurīkumshows youءَايَـٰتِهِۦāyātihiHis Signsوَيُنَزِّلُwayunazziluand sends downلَكُمlakumfor youمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe skyرِزْقًۭا ۚriz'qanprovisionوَمَاwamāBut (does) notيَتَذَكَّرُyatadhakkarutake heedإِلَّاillāexceptمَنman(one) whoيُنِيبُyunībuturns
It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except he who turns back [in repentance]
⤳ Link 40:13
14
فَٱدْعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
فَٱدْعُوا۟fa-id'ʿūSo invokeٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahمُخْلِصِينَmukh'liṣīna(being) sincereلَهُlahuto Himٱلدِّينَl-dīna(in) the religionوَلَوْwalaweven thoughكَرِهَkarihadislike (it)ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
So invoke Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, although the disbelievers dislike it
⤳ Link 40:14
15
رَفِيعُ ٱلدَّرَجَـٰتِ ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ يُلْقِى ٱلرُّوحَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ لِيُنذِرَ يَوْمَ ٱلتَّلَاقِ
رَفِيعُrafīʿuPossessor of the Highest Ranksٱلدَّرَجَـٰتِl-darajātiPossessor of the Highest RanksذُوdhūOwner (of) the Throneٱلْعَرْشِl-ʿarshiOwner (of) the Throneيُلْقِىyul'qīHe placesٱلرُّوحَl-rūḥathe inspirationمِنْminofأَمْرِهِۦamrihiHis CommandعَلَىٰʿalāuponمَنmanwhomيَشَآءُyashāuHe willsمِنْminofعِبَادِهِۦʿibādihiHis slavesلِيُنذِرَliyundhirato warnيَوْمَyawma(of the) Dayٱلتَّلَاقِl-talāqi(of) the Meeting
[He is] the Exalted above [all] degrees, Owner of the Throne; He places the inspiration of His command upon whom He wills of His servants to warn of the Day of Meeting
⤳ Link 40:15
16
يَوْمَ هُم بَـٰرِزُونَ ۖ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِنْهُمْ شَىْءٌۭ ۚ لِّمَنِ ٱلْمُلْكُ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ لِلَّهِ ٱلْوَٰحِدِ ٱلْقَهَّارِ
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayهُمhumtheyبَـٰرِزُونَ ۖbārizūnacome forthلَاnotيَخْفَىٰyakhfāis hiddenعَلَىʿalāfromٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahمِنْهُمْmin'humabout themشَىْءٌۭ ۚshayonanythingلِّمَنِlimaniFor whomٱلْمُلْكُl-mul'ku(is) the Dominionٱلْيَوْمَ ۖl-yawmathis DayلِلَّهِlillahiFor Allahٱلْوَٰحِدِl-wāḥidithe Oneٱلْقَهَّارِl-qahārithe Irresistible
The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allah. To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allah, the One, the Prevailing
⤳ Link 40:16
17
ٱلْيَوْمَ تُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ۚ لَا ظُلْمَ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
ٱلْيَوْمَal-yawmaThis Dayتُجْزَىٰtuj'zāwill be recompensedكُلُّkullueveryنَفْسٍۭnafsinsoulبِمَاbimāfor whatكَسَبَتْ ۚkasabatit earnedلَاNoظُلْمَẓul'mainjusticeٱلْيَوْمَ ۚl-yawmatodayإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahسَرِيعُsarīʿu(is) Swiftٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(in) Account
This Day every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today! Indeed, Allah is swift in account
⤳ Link 40:17
18
وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةِ إِذِ ٱلْقُلُوبُ لَدَى ٱلْحَنَاجِرِ كَـٰظِمِينَ ۚ مَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مِنْ حَمِيمٍۢ وَلَا شَفِيعٍۢ يُطَاعُ
وَأَنذِرْهُمْwa-andhir'humAnd warn themيَوْمَyawma(of the) Dayٱلْـَٔازِفَةِl-āzifatithe Approachingإِذِidhiwhenٱلْقُلُوبُl-qulūbuthe heartsلَدَىladā(are) atٱلْحَنَاجِرِl-ḥanājirithe throatsكَـٰظِمِينَ ۚkāẓimīnachokedمَاNotلِلظَّـٰلِمِينَlilẓẓālimīnafor the wrongdoersمِنْminanyحَمِيمٍۢḥamīminintimate friendوَلَاwalāand noشَفِيعٍۢshafīʿinintercessorيُطَاعُyuṭāʿu(who) is obeyed
And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Approaching Day, when hearts are at the throats, filled [with distress]. For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed
⤳ Link 40:18
19
يَعْلَمُ خَآئِنَةَ ٱلْأَعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِى ٱلصُّدُورُ
يَعْلَمُyaʿlamuHe knowsخَآئِنَةَkhāinata(the) stealthy glanceٱلْأَعْيُنِl-aʿyuni(the) stealthy glanceوَمَاwamāand whatتُخْفِىtukh'fīconcealٱلصُّدُورُl-ṣudūruthe breasts
He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal
⤳ Link 40:19
20
وَٱللَّهُ يَقْضِى بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَقْضُونَ بِشَىْءٍ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيَقْضِىyaqḍījudgesبِٱلْحَقِّ ۖbil-ḥaqiin truthوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnawhile those (whom)يَدْعُونَyadʿūnathey invokeمِنminbesides Himدُونِهِۦdūnihibesides Himلَاnotيَقْضُونَyaqḍūnathey judgeبِشَىْءٍ ۗbishayinwith anythingإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah هُوَhuwaHeٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearerٱلْبَصِيرُl-baṣīruthe All-Seer
And Allah judges with truth, while those they invoke besides Him judge not with anything. Indeed, Allah - He is the Hearing, the Seeing
⤳ Link 40:20
21
۞ أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُوا۟ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةًۭ وَءَاثَارًۭا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقٍۢ
۞ أَوَلَمْawalamDo notيَسِيرُوا۟yasīrūthey travelفِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthفَيَنظُرُوا۟fayanẓurūand seeكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) endٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoكَانُوا۟kānūwereمِنminbefore themقَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihimbefore themكَانُوا۟kānūThey wereهُمْhum[they]أَشَدَّashaddasuperiorمِنْهُمْmin'humto themقُوَّةًۭquwwatan(in) strengthوَءَاثَارًۭاwaāthāranand (in) impressionsفِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landفَأَخَذَهُمُfa-akhadhahumubut Allah seized themٱللَّهُl-lahubut Allah seized themبِذُنُوبِهِمْbidhunūbihimfor their sinsوَمَاwamāand notكَانَkānawasلَهُمlahumfor themمِّنَminaagainstٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahمِنminanyوَاقٍۢwāqinprotector
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allah any protector
⤳ Link 40:21
22
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانَت تَّأْتِيهِمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَكَفَرُوا۟ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ قَوِىٌّۭ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(was) because [they]كَانَتkānatused to come to themتَّأْتِيهِمْtatīhimused to come to themرُسُلُهُمrusuluhumtheir Messengersبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofsفَكَفَرُوا۟fakafarūbut they disbelievedفَأَخَذَهُمُfa-akhadhahumuSo Allah seized themٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuSo Allah seized themإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, Heقَوِىٌّۭqawiyyun(is) All-Strongشَدِيدُshadīdusevereٱلْعِقَابِl-ʿiqābi(in) punishment
That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment
⤳ Link 40:22
23
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ مُّبِينٍ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sentمُوسَىٰmūsāMusaبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināwith Our Signsوَسُلْطَـٰنٍۢwasul'ṭāninand an authorityمُّبِينٍmubīninclear
And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority
⤳ Link 40:23
24
إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ وَقَـٰرُونَ فَقَالُوا۟ سَـٰحِرٌۭ كَذَّابٌۭ
إِلَىٰilāToفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawnaFiraunوَهَـٰمَـٰنَwahāmānaHamanوَقَـٰرُونَwaqārūnaand Qarunفَقَالُوا۟faqālūbut they saidسَـٰحِرٌۭsāḥirunA magicianكَذَّابٌۭkadhābuna liar
To Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun; but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar
⤳ Link 40:24
25
فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ مِنْ عِندِنَا قَالُوا۟ ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَبْنَآءَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ وَٱسْتَحْيُوا۟ نِسَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَمَا كَيْدُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ
فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenجَآءَهُمjāahumhe brought to themبِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqithe truthمِنْminfromعِندِنَاʿindināUsقَالُوا۟qālūthey saidٱقْتُلُوٓا۟uq'tulūKillأَبْنَآءَabnāa(the) sonsٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveمَعَهُۥmaʿahuwith himوَٱسْتَحْيُوا۟wa-is'taḥyūand let liveنِسَآءَهُمْ ۚnisāahumtheir womenوَمَاwamāAnd notكَيْدُkaydu(is the) plotٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(of) the disbelieversإِلَّاillābutفِىinضَلَـٰلٍۢḍalālinerror
And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive." But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error
⤳ Link 40:25
26
وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ ذَرُونِىٓ أَقْتُلْ مُوسَىٰ وَلْيَدْعُ رَبَّهُۥٓ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُبَدِّلَ دِينَكُمْ أَوْ أَن يُظْهِرَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْفَسَادَ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraunذَرُونِىٓdharūnīLeave meأَقْتُلْaqtul(so that) I killمُوسَىٰmūsāMusaوَلْيَدْعُwalyadʿuand let him callرَبَّهُۥٓ ۖrabbahuhis LordإِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearأَنanthatيُبَدِّلَyubaddilahe will changeدِينَكُمْdīnakumyour religionأَوْaworأَنanthatيُظْهِرَyuẓ'hirahe may cause to appearفِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landٱلْفَسَادَl-fasādathe corruption
And Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption in the land
⤳ Link 40:26
27
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُم مِّن كُلِّ مُتَكَبِّرٍۢ لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidمُوسَىٰٓmūsāMusaإِنِّىinnīIndeed, Iعُذْتُʿudh'tu[I] seek refugeبِرَبِّىbirabbīin my Lordوَرَبِّكُمwarabbikumand your Lordمِّنminfromكُلِّkullieveryمُتَكَبِّرٍۢmutakabbirinarrogant oneلَّاnotيُؤْمِنُyu'minuwho believesبِيَوْمِbiyawmi(in the) Dayٱلْحِسَابِl-ḥisābi(of) the Account
But Moses said, "Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account
⤳ Link 40:27
28
وَقَالَ رَجُلٌۭ مُّؤْمِنٌۭ مِّنْ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَكْتُمُ إِيمَـٰنَهُۥٓ أَتَقْتُلُونَ رَجُلًا أَن يَقُولَ رَبِّىَ ٱللَّهُ وَقَدْ جَآءَكُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَكُ كَـٰذِبًۭا فَعَلَيْهِ كَذِبُهُۥ ۖ وَإِن يَكُ صَادِقًۭا يُصِبْكُم بَعْضُ ٱلَّذِى يَعِدُكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌۭ كَذَّابٌۭ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidرَجُلٌۭrajuluna manمُّؤْمِنٌۭmu'minunbelievingمِّنْminfromءَالِāli(the) familyفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaunيَكْتُمُyaktumuwho conceal(ed)إِيمَـٰنَهُۥٓīmānahuhis faithأَتَقْتُلُونَataqtulūnaWill you killرَجُلًاrajulana manأَنanbecauseيَقُولَyaqūlahe saysرَبِّىَrabbiyaMy Lordٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahوَقَدْwaqadand indeedجَآءَكُمjāakumhe has brought youبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayināticlear proofsمِنminfromرَّبِّكُمْ ۖrabbikumyour Lordوَإِنwa-inAnd ifيَكُyakuhe isكَـٰذِبًۭاkādhibana liarفَعَلَيْهِfaʿalayhithen upon himكَذِبُهُۥ ۖkadhibuhu(is) his lieوَإِنwa-inand ifيَكُyakuhe isصَادِقًۭاṣādiqantruthfulيُصِبْكُمyuṣib'kum(there) will strike youبَعْضُbaʿḍusome (of)ٱلَّذِىalladhī(that) whichيَعِدُكُمْ ۖyaʿidukumhe threatens youإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَا(does) notيَهْدِىyahdīguideمَنْman(one) whoهُوَhuwa[he]مُسْرِفٌۭmus'rifun(is) a transgressorكَذَّابٌۭkadhābuna liar
And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar
⤳ Link 40:28
29
يَـٰقَوْمِ لَكُمُ ٱلْمُلْكُ ٱلْيَوْمَ ظَـٰهِرِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَمَن يَنصُرُنَا مِنۢ بَأْسِ ٱللَّهِ إِن جَآءَنَا ۚ قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ مَآ أُرِيكُمْ إِلَّا مَآ أَرَىٰ وَمَآ أَهْدِيكُمْ إِلَّا سَبِيلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ
يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my peopleلَكُمُlakumuFor youٱلْمُلْكُl-mul'ku(is) the kingdomٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayظَـٰهِرِينَẓāhirīnadominantفِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landفَمَنfamanbut whoيَنصُرُنَاyanṣurunāwill help usمِنۢminfromبَأْسِbasi(the) punishmentٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahإِنinifجَآءَنَا ۚjāanāit came to usقَالَqālaSaidفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraunمَآNotأُرِيكُمْurīkumI show youإِلَّاillāexceptمَآwhatأَرَىٰarāI seeوَمَآwamāand notأَهْدِيكُمْahdīkumI guide youإِلَّاillāexceptسَبِيلَsabīla(to the) pathٱلرَّشَادِl-rashādithe right
O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct
⤳ Link 40:29
30
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَامَنَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُم مِّثْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidٱلَّذِىٓalladhī(he) whoءَامَنَāmanabelievedيَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my peopleإِنِّىٓinnīIndeed Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearعَلَيْكُمʿalaykumfor youمِّثْلَmith'lalikeيَوْمِyawmi(the) dayٱلْأَحْزَابِl-aḥzābi(of) the companies
And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies
⤳ Link 40:30
31
مِثْلَ دَأْبِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍۢ وَعَادٍۢ وَثَمُودَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۚ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ظُلْمًۭا لِّلْعِبَادِ
مِثْلَmith'laLikeدَأْبِdabi(the) plightقَوْمِqawmi(of the) peopleنُوحٍۢnūḥin(of) Nuhوَعَادٍۢwaʿādinand Aadوَثَمُودَwathamūdaand Thamudوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand thoseمِنۢminafter themبَعْدِهِمْ ۚbaʿdihimafter themوَمَاwamāAnd Allah (does) notٱللَّهُl-lahuAnd Allah (does) notيُرِيدُyurīduwantظُلْمًۭاẓul'maninjusticeلِّلْعِبَادِlil'ʿibādifor (His) slaves
Like the custom of the people of Noah and of 'Aad and Thamud and those after them. And Allah wants no injustice for [His] servants
⤳ Link 40:31
32
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلتَّنَادِ
وَيَـٰقَوْمِwayāqawmiAnd O my peopleإِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iأَخَافُakhāfu[I] fearعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumfor youيَوْمَyawma(the) Dayٱلتَّنَادِl-tanādi(of) Calling
And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling
⤳ Link 40:32
33
يَوْمَ تُوَلُّونَ مُدْبِرِينَ مَا لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِنْ عَاصِمٍۢ ۗ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنْ هَادٍۢ
يَوْمَyawmaA Dayتُوَلُّونَtuwallūnayou will turn backمُدْبِرِينَmud'birīnafleeingمَاnotلَكُمlakumfor youمِّنَminafromٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahمِنْminanyعَاصِمٍۢ ۗʿāṣiminprotectorوَمَنwamanAnd whoeverيُضْلِلِyuḍ'liliAllah lets go astrayٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astrayفَمَاfamāthen notلَهُۥlahufor himمِنْminanyهَادٍۢhādinguide
The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever Allah leaves astray - there is not for him any guide
⤳ Link 40:33
34
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ يُوسُفُ مِن قَبْلُ بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَمَا زِلْتُمْ فِى شَكٍّۢ مِّمَّا جَآءَكُم بِهِۦ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا هَلَكَ قُلْتُمْ لَن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ رَسُولًۭا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌۭ مُّرْتَابٌ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeedجَآءَكُمْjāakumcame to youيُوسُفُyūsufuYusufمِنminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofsفَمَاfamābut notزِلْتُمْzil'tumyou ceasedفِىinشَكٍّۢshakkindoubtمِّمَّاmimmāabout whatجَآءَكُمjāakumhe brought to youبِهِۦ ۖbihi[with it]حَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenهَلَكَhalakahe diedقُلْتُمْqul'tumyou saidلَنlanNeverيَبْعَثَyabʿathawill Allah raiseٱللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah raiseمِنۢminafter himبَعْدِهِۦbaʿdihiafter himرَسُولًۭا ۚrasūlana MessengerكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusيُضِلُّyuḍilluAllah lets go astrayٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astrayمَنْmanwhoهُوَhuwa[he]مُسْرِفٌۭmus'rifun(is) a transgressorمُّرْتَابٌmur'tābuna doubter
And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic
⤳ Link 40:34
35
ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَـٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمْ ۖ كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَطْبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ قَلْبِ مُتَكَبِّرٍۢ جَبَّارٍۢ
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoيُجَـٰدِلُونَyujādilūnadisputeفِىٓconcerningءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Signsٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutسُلْطَـٰنٍsul'ṭāninany authorityأَتَىٰهُمْ ۖatāhum(having) come to themكَبُرَkabura(it) is greatlyمَقْتًاmaqtanhatefulعِندَʿindanear Allahٱللَّهِl-lahinear Allahوَعِندَwaʿindaand nearٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathoseءَامَنُوا۟ ۚāmanūwho believeكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusيَطْبَعُyaṭbaʿuAllah sets a sealٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah sets a sealعَلَىٰʿalāoverكُلِّkullieveryقَلْبِqalbiheartمُتَكَبِّرٍۢmutakabbirin(of) an arrogantجَبَّارٍۢjabbārintyrant
Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without an authority having come to them - great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allah seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant
⤳ Link 40:35
36
وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ ٱبْنِ لِى صَرْحًۭا لَّعَلِّىٓ أَبْلُغُ ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبَ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidفِرْعَوْنُfir'ʿawnuFiraunيَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُyāhāmānuO Hamanٱبْنِib'niConstructلِىfor meصَرْحًۭاṣarḥana towerلَّعَلِّىٓlaʿallīthat I mayأَبْلُغُablughureachٱلْأَسْبَـٰبَl-asbābathe ways
And Pharaoh said, "O Haman, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways
⤳ Link 40:36
37
أَسْبَـٰبَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ فَأَطَّلِعَ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَـٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّهُۥ كَـٰذِبًۭا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرْعَوْنَ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَصُدَّ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۚ وَمَا كَيْدُ فِرْعَوْنَ إِلَّا فِى تَبَابٍۢ
أَسْبَـٰبَasbāba(The) waysٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(to) the heavensفَأَطَّلِعَfa-aṭṭaliʿaso I may lookإِلَىٰٓilāatإِلَـٰهِilāhi(the) Godمُوسَىٰmūsā(of) Musaوَإِنِّىwa-innīand indeed, Iلَأَظُنُّهُۥla-aẓunnuhu[I] surely think himكَـٰذِبًۭا ۚkādhiban(to be) a liarوَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusزُيِّنَzuyyinawas made fair-seemingلِفِرْعَوْنَlifir'ʿawnato Firaunسُوٓءُsūu(the) evilعَمَلِهِۦʿamalihi(of) his deedوَصُدَّwaṣuddaand he was avertedعَنِʿanifromٱلسَّبِيلِ ۚl-sabīlithe wayوَمَاwamāAnd notكَيْدُkaydu(was the) plotفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaunإِلَّاillāexceptفِىinتَبَابٍۢtabābinruin
The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin
⤳ Link 40:37
38
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَامَنَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُونِ أَهْدِكُمْ سَبِيلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidٱلَّذِىٓalladhīthe one whoءَامَنَāmanabelievedيَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my peopleٱتَّبِعُونِittabiʿūniFollow meأَهْدِكُمْahdikumI will guide youسَبِيلَsabīla(to the) wayٱلرَّشَادِl-rashādithe right
And he who believed said, "O my people, follow me, I will guide you to the way of right conduct
⤳ Link 40:38
39
يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا مَتَـٰعٌۭ وَإِنَّ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ هِىَ دَارُ ٱلْقَرَارِ
يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my peopleإِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyهَـٰذِهِhādhihithisٱلْحَيَوٰةُl-ḥayatuthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldمَتَـٰعٌۭmatāʿun(is) enjoymentوَإِنَّwa-innaand indeedٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَl-ākhiratathe Hereafter هِىَhiyaitدَارُdāru(is the) homeٱلْقَرَارِl-qarāri(of) settlement
O my people, this worldly life is only [temporary] enjoyment, and indeed, the Hereafter - that is the home of [permanent] settlement
⤳ Link 40:39
40
مَنْ عَمِلَ سَيِّئَةًۭ فَلَا يُجْزَىٰٓ إِلَّا مِثْلَهَا ۖ وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌۭ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ يُرْزَقُونَ فِيهَا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍۢ
مَنْmanWhoeverعَمِلَʿamiladoesسَيِّئَةًۭsayyi-atanan evilفَلَاfalāthen notيُجْزَىٰٓyuj'zāhe will be recompensedإِلَّاillābutمِثْلَهَا ۖmith'lahā(the) like thereofوَمَنْwamanand whoeverعَمِلَʿamiladoesصَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)مِّنminofذَكَرٍdhakarinmaleأَوْaworأُنثَىٰunthāfemaleوَهُوَwahuwawhile heمُؤْمِنٌۭmu'minun(is) a believerفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseيَدْخُلُونَyadkhulūnawill enterٱلْجَنَّةَl-janataParadiseيُرْزَقُونَyur'zaqūnathey will be given provisionفِيهَاfīhāin itبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutحِسَابٍۢḥisābinaccount
Whoever does an evil deed will not be recompensed except by the like thereof; but whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise, being given provision therein without account
⤳ Link 40:40
41
۞ وَيَـٰقَوْمِ مَا لِىٓ أَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَى ٱلنَّجَوٰةِ وَتَدْعُونَنِىٓ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ
۞ وَيَـٰقَوْمِwayāqawmiAnd O my peopleمَاWhat (is)لِىٓfor meأَدْعُوكُمْadʿūkum(that) I call youإِلَىilātoٱلنَّجَوٰةِl-najatithe salvationوَتَدْعُونَنِىٓwatadʿūnanīwhile you call meإِلَىilātoٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fire
And O my people, how is it that I invite you to salvation while you invite me to the Fire
⤳ Link 40:41
42
تَدْعُونَنِى لِأَكْفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَأُشْرِكَ بِهِۦ مَا لَيْسَ لِى بِهِۦ عِلْمٌۭ وَأَنَا۠ أَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْغَفَّـٰرِ
تَدْعُونَنِىtadʿūnanīYou call meلِأَكْفُرَli-akfurathat I disbelieveبِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin Allahوَأُشْرِكَwa-ush'rikaand (to) associateبِهِۦbihiwith Himمَاwhatلَيْسَlaysanotلِىfor meبِهِۦbihiof itعِلْمٌۭʿil'munany knowledgeوَأَنَا۠wa-anāand Iأَدْعُوكُمْadʿūkumcall youإِلَىilātoٱلْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzithe All-Mightyٱلْغَفَّـٰرِl-ghafārithe Oft-Forgiving
You invite me to disbelieve in Allah and associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver
⤳ Link 40:42
43
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّمَا تَدْعُونَنِىٓ إِلَيْهِ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَعْوَةٌۭ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَلَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ مَرَدَّنَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ
لَاNoجَرَمَjaramadoubtأَنَّمَاannamāthat whatتَدْعُونَنِىٓtadʿūnanīyou call meإِلَيْهِilayhito itلَيْسَlaysanotلَهُۥlahufor itدَعْوَةٌۭdaʿwatuna claimفِىinٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yāthe worldوَلَاwalāand notفِىinٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafterوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatمَرَدَّنَآmaraddanāour returnإِلَىilā(is) toٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatٱلْمُسْرِفِينَl-mus'rifīnathe transgressors هُمْhumtheyأَصْحَـٰبُaṣḥābu(will be the) companionsٱلنَّارِl-nāri(of) the Fire
Assuredly, that to which you invite me has no [response to a] supplication in this world or in the Hereafter; and indeed, our return is to Allah, and indeed, the transgressors will be companions of the Fire
⤳ Link 40:43
44
فَسَتَذْكُرُونَ مَآ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ ۚ وَأُفَوِّضُ أَمْرِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَصِيرٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ
فَسَتَذْكُرُونَfasatadhkurūnaAnd you will rememberمَآwhatأَقُولُaqūluI sayلَكُمْ ۚlakumto youوَأُفَوِّضُwa-ufawwiḍuand I entrustأَمْرِىٓamrīmy affairإِلَىilātoٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahiAllahإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahبَصِيرٌۢbaṣīrun(is) All-Seerبِٱلْعِبَادِbil-ʿibādiof (His) slaves
And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants
⤳ Link 40:44
45
فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِ مَا مَكَرُوا۟ ۖ وَحَاقَ بِـَٔالِ فِرْعَوْنَ سُوٓءُ ٱلْعَذَابِ
فَوَقَىٰهُfawaqāhuSo Allah protected himٱللَّهُl-lahuSo Allah protected himسَيِّـَٔاتِsayyiāti(from the) evilsمَاthatمَكَرُوا۟ ۖmakarūthey plottedوَحَاقَwaḥāqaand envelopedبِـَٔالِbiāli(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaunسُوٓءُsūu(the) worstٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābipunishment
So Allah protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment
⤳ Link 40:45
46
ٱلنَّارُ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيْهَا غُدُوًّۭا وَعَشِيًّۭا ۖ وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْخِلُوٓا۟ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ أَشَدَّ ٱلْعَذَابِ
ٱلنَّارُal-nāruThe Fireيُعْرَضُونَyuʿ'raḍūnathey are exposedعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāto itغُدُوًّۭاghuduwwanmorningوَعَشِيًّۭا ۖwaʿashiyyanand eveningوَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) Dayتَقُومُtaqūmu(will be) establishedٱلسَّاعَةُl-sāʿatuthe Hourأَدْخِلُوٓا۟adkhilūCause to enterءَالَāla(the) peopleفِرْعَوْنَfir'ʿawna(of) Firaunأَشَدَّashadda(in the) severestٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābipunishment
The Fire, they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment
⤳ Link 40:46
47
وَإِذْ يَتَحَآجُّونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ فَيَقُولُ ٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعًۭا فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّغْنُونَ عَنَّا نَصِيبًۭا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenيَتَحَآجُّونَyataḥājjūnathey will disputeفِىinٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fireفَيَقُولُfayaqūluthen will sayٱلضُّعَفَـٰٓؤُا۟l-ḍuʿafāuthe weakلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟is'takbarūwere arrogantإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weكُنَّاkunnā[we] wereلَكُمْlakumfor youتَبَعًۭاtabaʿanfollowersفَهَلْfahalso canأَنتُمantumyouمُّغْنُونَmugh'nūnaavertعَنَّاʿannāfrom usنَصِيبًۭاnaṣībana portionمِّنَminaofٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fire
And [mention] when they will argue within the Fire, and the weak will say to those who had been arrogant, "Indeed, we were [only] your followers, so will you relieve us of a share of the Fire
⤳ Link 40:47
48
قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُلٌّۭ فِيهَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدْ حَكَمَ بَيْنَ ٱلْعِبَادِ
قَالَqālaWill sayٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟is'takbarū(were) arrogantإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weكُلٌّۭkullunallفِيهَآfīhā(are) in itإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَدْqadcertainlyحَكَمَḥakamahas judgedبَيْنَbaynabetweenٱلْعِبَادِl-ʿibādi(His) slaves
Those who had been arrogant will say, "Indeed, all [of us] are in it. Indeed, Allah has judged between the servants
⤳ Link 40:48
49
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ لِخَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ ٱدْعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ يُخَفِّفْ عَنَّا يَوْمًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd will sayٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathoseفِىinٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fireلِخَزَنَةِlikhazanatito (the) keepersجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellٱدْعُوا۟id'ʿūCallرَبَّكُمْrabbakumyour Lordيُخَفِّفْyukhaffif(to) lightenعَنَّاʿannāfor usيَوْمًۭاyawmana dayمِّنَminaofٱلْعَذَابِl-ʿadhābithe punishment
And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Supplicate your Lord to lighten for us a day from the punishment
⤳ Link 40:49
50
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ تَكُ تَأْتِيكُمْ رُسُلُكُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ ۚ قَالُوا۟ فَٱدْعُوا۟ ۗ وَمَا دُعَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ
قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey (will) sayأَوَلَمْawalamDid there notتَكُtakuDid there notتَأْتِيكُمْtatīkumcome to youرُسُلُكُمrusulukumyour Messengersبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ ۖbil-bayinātiwith clear proofsقَالُوا۟qālūThey (will) sayبَلَىٰ ۚbalāYesقَالُوا۟qālūThey (will) sayفَٱدْعُوا۟ ۗfa-id'ʿūThen callوَمَاwamābut notدُعَـٰٓؤُا۟duʿāu(is the) callٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(of) the disbelieversإِلَّاillāexceptفِىinضَلَـٰلٍḍalālinerror
They will say, "Did there not come to you your messengers with clear proofs?" They will say, "Yes." They will reply, "Then supplicate [yourselves], but the supplication of the disbelievers is not except in error
⤳ Link 40:50
51
إِنَّا لَنَنصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَيَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْأَشْهَـٰدُ
إِنَّاinnāIndeed WeلَنَنصُرُlananṣuruWe will surely helpرُسُلَنَاrusulanāOur Messengersوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveفِىinٱلْحَيَوٰةِl-ḥayatithe lifeٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldوَيَوْمَwayawmaand (on the) Dayيَقُومُyaqūmu(when) will standٱلْأَشْهَـٰدُl-ashhāduthe witnesses
Indeed, We will support Our messengers and those who believe during the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses will stand
⤳ Link 40:51
52
يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ ۖ وَلَهُمُ ٱللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayلَاnotيَنفَعُyanfaʿuwill benefitٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoersمَعْذِرَتُهُمْ ۖmaʿdhiratuhumtheir excuseوَلَهُمُwalahumuand for themٱللَّعْنَةُl-laʿnatu(is) the curseوَلَهُمْwalahumand for themسُوٓءُsūu(is the) worstٱلدَّارِl-dārihome
The Day their excuse will not benefit the wrongdoers, and they will have the curse, and they will have the worst home
⤳ Link 40:52
53
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَأَوْرَثْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyءَاتَيْنَاātaynāWe gaveمُوسَىmūsāMusaٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe guidanceوَأَوْرَثْنَاwa-awrathnāand We caused to inheritبَنِىٓbanī(the) Children of Israelإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَis'rāīla(the) Children of Israelٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
And We had certainly given Moses guidance, and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Scripture
⤳ Link 40:53
54
هُدًۭى وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
هُدًۭىhudanA guideوَذِكْرَىٰwadhik'rāand a reminderلِأُو۟لِىli-ulīfor thoseٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِl-albābi(of) understanding
As guidance and a reminder for those of understanding
⤳ Link 40:54
55
فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّۭ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ
فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patientإِنَّinnaindeedوَعْدَwaʿda(the) Promise of Allahٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) Promise of Allahحَقٌّۭḥaqqun(is) trueوَٱسْتَغْفِرْwa-is'taghfirAnd ask forgivenessلِذَنۢبِكَlidhanbikafor your sinوَسَبِّحْwasabbiḥand glorifyبِحَمْدِbiḥamdi(the) praiseرَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lordبِٱلْعَشِىِّbil-ʿashiyiin the eveningوَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِwal-ib'kāriand the morning
So be patient, [O Muhammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning
⤳ Link 40:55
56
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَـٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمْ ۙ إِن فِى صُدُورِهِمْ إِلَّا كِبْرٌۭ مَّا هُم بِبَـٰلِغِيهِ ۚ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُجَـٰدِلُونَyujādilūnadisputeفِىٓconcerningءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Signsٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutسُلْطَـٰنٍsul'ṭāninany authorityأَتَىٰهُمْ ۙatāhum(which) came to themإِنinnotفِى(is) inصُدُورِهِمْṣudūrihimtheir breastsإِلَّاillābutكِبْرٌۭkib'rungreatnessمَّاnotهُمhumtheyبِبَـٰلِغِيهِ ۚbibālighīhi(can) reach itفَٱسْتَعِذْfa-is'taʿidhSo seek refugeبِٱللَّهِ ۖbil-lahiin AllahإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed HeهُوَhuwaHeٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearerٱلْبَصِيرُl-baṣīruthe All-Seer
Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without [any] authority having come to them - there is not within their breasts except pride, [the extent of] which they cannot reach. So seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Seeing
⤳ Link 40:56
57
لَخَلْقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ خَلْقِ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
لَخَلْقُlakhalquSurely, (the) creationٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavensوَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earthأَكْبَرُakbaru(is) greaterمِنْminthanخَلْقِkhalqi(the) creationٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the mankindوَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَaktharamostٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the peopleلَا(do) notيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknow
The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know
⤳ Link 40:57
58
وَمَا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْبَصِيرُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَلَا ٱلْمُسِىٓءُ ۚ قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ
وَمَاwamāAnd notيَسْتَوِىyastawī(are) equalٱلْأَعْمَىٰl-aʿmāthe blindوَٱلْبَصِيرُwal-baṣīruand the seeingوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand doٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsوَلَاwalāand notٱلْمُسِىٓءُ ۚl-musīuthe evildoerقَلِيلًۭاqalīlanLittleمَّا(is) whatتَتَذَكَّرُونَtatadhakkarūnayou take heed
And not equal are the blind and the seeing, nor are those who believe and do righteous deeds and the evildoer. Little do you remember
⤳ Link 40:58
59
إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌۭ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿatathe Hourلَـَٔاتِيَةٌۭlaātiyatun(is) surely comingلَّاnoرَيْبَraybadoubtفِيهَاfīhāin itوَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَaktharamostٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the peopleلَا(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve
Indeed, the Hour is coming - no doubt about it - but most of the people do not believe
⤳ Link 40:59
60
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِى سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd saidرَبُّكُمُrabbukumuyour Lordٱدْعُونِىٓid'ʿūnīCall upon MeأَسْتَجِبْastajibI will respondلَكُمْ ۚlakumto youإِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيَسْتَكْبِرُونَyastakbirūna(are) proudعَنْʿantoعِبَادَتِىʿibādatīworship Meسَيَدْخُلُونَsayadkhulūnawill enterجَهَنَّمَjahannamaHellدَاخِرِينَdākhirīna(in) humiliation
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible
⤳ Link 40:60
61
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ فِيهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبْصِرًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ
ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Whoجَعَلَjaʿalamadeلَكُمُlakumufor youٱلَّيْلَal-laylathe nightلِتَسْكُنُوا۟litaskunūthat you may restفِيهِfīhiin itوَٱلنَّهَارَwal-nahāraand the dayمُبْصِرًا ۚmub'ṣirangiving visibilityإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahلَذُوladhū(is) Full (of) Bountyفَضْلٍfaḍlin(is) Full (of) Bountyعَلَىʿalātoٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe peopleوَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabutأَكْثَرَaktharamostٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the peopleلَا(do) notيَشْكُرُونَyashkurūnagive thanks
It is Allah who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight. Indeed, Allah is full of bounty to the people, but most of the people are not grateful
⤳ Link 40:61
62
ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ
ذَٰلِكُمُdhālikumuThatٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahرَبُّكُمْrabbukumyour Lordخَـٰلِقُkhāliqu(the) Creatorكُلِّkulli(of) allشَىْءٍۢshayinthingsلَّآ(there is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّاillāexceptهُوَ ۖhuwaHimفَأَنَّىٰfa-annāSo howتُؤْفَكُونَtu'fakūnaare you deluded
That is Allah, your Lord, Creator of all things; there is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded
⤳ Link 40:62
63
كَذَٰلِكَ يُؤْفَكُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusيُؤْفَكُyu'fakuwere deludedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَانُوا۟kānūwere بِـَٔايَـٰتِbiāyāti(the) Signsٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahيَجْحَدُونَyajḥadūnarejecting
Thus were those [before you] deluded who were rejecting the signs of Allah
⤳ Link 40:63
64
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ قَرَارًۭا وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بِنَآءًۭ وَصَوَّرَكُمْ فَأَحْسَنَ صُوَرَكُمْ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ ۖ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Whoجَعَلَjaʿalamadeلَكُمُlakumufor youٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthقَرَارًۭاqarārana place of settlementوَٱلسَّمَآءَwal-samāaand the skyبِنَآءًۭbināana canopyوَصَوَّرَكُمْwaṣawwarakumand He formed youفَأَحْسَنَfa-aḥsanaand perfectedصُوَرَكُمْṣuwarakumyour formsوَرَزَقَكُمwarazaqakumand provided youمِّنَminaofٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚl-ṭayibātithe good thingsذَٰلِكُمُdhālikumuThatٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahرَبُّكُمْ ۖrabbukumyour LordفَتَبَارَكَfatabārakaThen blessed (is)ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahرَبُّrabbu(the) Lordٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
It is Allah who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a ceiling and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord; then blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds
⤳ Link 40:64
65
هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱدْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ ۗ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
هُوَhuwaHeٱلْحَىُّl-ḥayu(is) the Ever-Livingلَآ(there is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّاillābutهُوَhuwaHeفَٱدْعُوهُfa-id'ʿūhuso call Himمُخْلِصِينَmukh'liṣīna(being) sincereلَهُlahuto Himٱلدِّينَ ۗl-dīna(in) the religionٱلْحَمْدُl-ḥamduAll praise (be)لِلَّهِlillahito Allahرَبِّrabbi(the) Lordٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
He is the Ever-Living; there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds
⤳ Link 40:65
66
۞ قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَمَّا جَآءَنِىَ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ مِن رَّبِّى وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
۞ قُلْqulSayإِنِّىinnīIndeed, Iنُهِيتُnuhītu[I] have been forbiddenأَنْantoأَعْبُدَaʿbudaworshipٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whomتَدْعُونَtadʿūnayou callمِنminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahلَمَّاlammāwhenجَآءَنِىَjāaniyahave come to meٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُl-bayinātuthe clear proofsمِنminfromرَّبِّىrabbīmy Lordوَأُمِرْتُwa-umir'tuand I am commandedأَنْantoأُسْلِمَus'limasubmitلِرَبِّlirabbito (the) Lordٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīna(of) the worlds
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been forbidden to worship those you call upon besides Allah once the clear proofs have come to me from my Lord, and I have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds
⤳ Link 40:66
67
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٍۢ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطْفَةٍۢ ثُمَّ مِنْ عَلَقَةٍۢ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًۭا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ أَشُدَّكُمْ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُوا۟ شُيُوخًۭا ۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ أَجَلًۭا مُّسَمًّۭى وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
هُوَhuwaHeٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Whoخَلَقَكُمkhalaqakumcreated youمِّنminfromتُرَابٍۢturābindustثُمَّthummathenمِنminfromنُّطْفَةٍۢnuṭ'fatina semen-dropثُمَّthummathenمِنْminfromعَلَقَةٍۢʿalaqatina clinging substanceثُمَّthummathenيُخْرِجُكُمْyukh'rijukumHe brings you outطِفْلًۭاṭif'lan(as) a childثُمَّthummathenلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟litablughūlets you reachأَشُدَّكُمْashuddakumyour maturityثُمَّthummathenلِتَكُونُوا۟litakūnūlets you becomeشُيُوخًۭا ۚshuyūkhanold وَمِنكُمwaminkumand among youمَّنman(is he) whoيُتَوَفَّىٰyutawaffādiesمِنminbefore قَبْلُ ۖqablubefore وَلِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟walitablughūand lets you reachأَجَلًۭاajalana termمُّسَمًّۭىmusammanspecifiedوَلَعَلَّكُمْwalaʿallakumand that you mayتَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnause reason
It is He who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clinging clot; then He brings you out as a child; then [He develops you] that you reach your [time of] maturity, then [further] that you become elders. And among you is he who is taken in death before [that], so that you reach a specified term; and perhaps you will use reason
⤳ Link 40:67
68
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ فَإِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمْرًۭا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
هُوَhuwaHeٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Whoيُحْىِۦyuḥ'yīgives lifeوَيُمِيتُ ۖwayumītuand causes deathفَإِذَاfa-idhāAnd whenقَضَىٰٓqaḍāHe decreesأَمْرًۭاamrana matterفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen onlyيَقُولُyaqūluHe saysلَهُۥlahuto itكُنkunBeفَيَكُونُfayakūnuand it is
He it is who gives life and causes death; and when He decrees a matter, He but says to it, "Be," and it is
⤳ Link 40:68
69
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ أَنَّىٰ يُصْرَفُونَ
أَلَمْalamDo notتَرَtarayou seeإِلَىilā[to]ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُجَـٰدِلُونَyujādilūnadisputeفِىٓconcerningءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Signsٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) AllahأَنَّىٰannāHowيُصْرَفُونَyuṣ'rafūnathey are turned away
Do you not consider those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah - how are they averted
⤳ Link 40:69
70
ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَبِمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا بِهِۦ رُسُلَنَا ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoكَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūdenyبِٱلْكِتَـٰبِbil-kitābithe Bookوَبِمَآwabimāand with whatأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe sentبِهِۦbihiwith itرُسُلَنَا ۖrusulanāOur Messengersفَسَوْفَfasawfabut soonيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey will know
Those who deny the Book and that with which We sent Our messengers - they are going to know
⤳ Link 40:70
71
إِذِ ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ وَٱلسَّلَـٰسِلُ يُسْحَبُونَ
إِذِidhiWhenٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُl-aghlāluthe iron collarsفِىٓ(will be) aroundأَعْنَـٰقِهِمْaʿnāqihimtheir necksوَٱلسَّلَـٰسِلُwal-salāsiluand the chainsيُسْحَبُونَyus'ḥabūnathey will be dragged
When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged
⤳ Link 40:71
72
فِى ٱلْحَمِيمِ ثُمَّ فِى ٱلنَّارِ يُسْجَرُونَ
فِىInٱلْحَمِيمِl-ḥamīmithe boiling waterثُمَّthummathenفِىinٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fireيُسْجَرُونَyus'jarūnathey will be burned
In boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame]
⤳ Link 40:72
73
ثُمَّ قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ
ثُمَّthummaThenقِيلَqīlait will be saidلَهُمْlahumto themأَيْنَaynaWhereمَا(is) that whichكُنتُمْkuntumyou used toتُشْرِكُونَtush'rikūnaassociate
Then it will be said to them, "Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]
⤳ Link 40:73
74
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا بَل لَّمْ نَكُن نَّدْعُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
مِنminOther thanدُونِdūniOther thanٱللَّهِ ۖl-lahiAllahقَالُوا۟qālūThey will sayضَلُّوا۟ḍallūThey have departedعَنَّاʿannāfrom usبَلbalNayلَّمْlamNotنَكُنnakunwe used toنَّدْعُوا۟nadʿū[we] callمِنminbeforeقَبْلُqablubeforeشَيْـًۭٔا ۚshayananythingكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusيُضِلُّyuḍilluAllah lets go astrayٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah lets go astrayٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
Other than Allah?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allah put astray the disbelievers
⤳ Link 40:74
75
ذَٰلِكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَفْرَحُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنتُمْ تَمْرَحُونَ
ذَٰلِكُمdhālikumThat wasبِمَاbimābecauseكُنتُمْkuntumyou used toتَفْرَحُونَtafraḥūnarejoiceفِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthبِغَيْرِbighayriwithoutٱلْحَقِّl-ḥaqirightوَبِمَاwabimāand becauseكُنتُمْkuntumyou used toتَمْرَحُونَtamraḥūnabe insolent
[The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently
⤳ Link 40:75
76
ٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ أَبْوَٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ
ٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ud'khulūEnterأَبْوَٰبَabwāba(the) gatesجَهَنَّمَjahannama(of) Hellخَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīna(to) abide foreverفِيهَا ۖfīhāin itفَبِئْسَfabi'saand wretched isمَثْوَىmathwā(the) abodeٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَl-mutakabirīna(of) the arrogant
Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant
⤳ Link 40:76
77
فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّۭ ۚ فَإِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُونَ
فَٱصْبِرْfa-iṣ'birSo be patientإِنَّinnaindeedوَعْدَwaʿda(the) Promiseٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahحَقٌّۭ ۚḥaqqun(is) trueفَإِمَّاfa-immāAnd whetherنُرِيَنَّكَnuriyannakaWe show youبَعْضَbaʿḍasomeٱلَّذِىalladhī(of) whatنَعِدُهُمْnaʿiduhumWe have promised themأَوْaworنَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَnatawaffayannakaWe cause you to dieفَإِلَيْنَاfa-ilaynāthen to Usيُرْجَعُونَyur'jaʿūnathey will be returned
So be patient, [O Muhammad]; indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned
⤳ Link 40:77
78
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًۭا مِّن قَبْلِكَ مِنْهُم مَّن قَصَصْنَا عَلَيْكَ وَمِنْهُم مَّن لَّمْ نَقْصُصْ عَلَيْكَ ۗ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن يَأْتِىَ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ قُضِىَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd certainlyأَرْسَلْنَاarsalnāWe have sentرُسُلًۭاrusulanMessengersمِّنminbefore youقَبْلِكَqablikabefore youمِنْهُمmin'humAmong themمَّنman(are) who قَصَصْنَاqaṣaṣnāWe have relatedعَلَيْكَʿalaykato youوَمِنْهُمwamin'humand among themمَّنman(are) who لَّمْlamnotنَقْصُصْnaqṣuṣWe have relatedعَلَيْكَ ۗʿalaykato youوَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānaisلِرَسُولٍlirasūlinfor any Messengerأَنanthatيَأْتِىَyatiyahe bringsبِـَٔايَةٍbiāyatina Signإِلَّاillāexceptبِإِذْنِbi-idh'niby (the) permissionٱللَّهِ ۚl-lahi(of) Allahفَإِذَاfa-idhāSo whenجَآءَjāacomesأَمْرُamru(the) Commandٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahقُضِىَquḍiyait will be decidedبِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiin truthوَخَسِرَwakhasiraand will loseهُنَالِكَhunālikathereٱلْمُبْطِلُونَl-mub'ṭilūnathe falsifiers
And We have already sent messengers before you. Among them are those [whose stories] We have related to you, and among them are those [whose stories] We have not related to you. And it was not for any messenger to bring a sign [or verse] except by permission of Allah. So when the command of Allah comes, it will be concluded in truth, and the falsifiers will thereupon lose [all]
⤳ Link 40:78
79
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ لِتَرْكَبُوا۟ مِنْهَا وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ
ٱللَّهُal-lahuAllahٱلَّذِىalladhī(is) the One Whoجَعَلَjaʿalamadeلَكُمُlakumufor youٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَl-anʿāmathe cattleلِتَرْكَبُوا۟litarkabūthat you may rideمِنْهَاmin'hāsome of themوَمِنْهَاwamin'hāand some of themتَأْكُلُونَtakulūnayou eat
It is Allah who made for you the grazing animals upon which you ride, and some of them you eat
⤳ Link 40:79
80
وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَلِتَبْلُغُوا۟ عَلَيْهَا حَاجَةًۭ فِى صُدُورِكُمْ وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ
وَلَكُمْwalakumAnd for youفِيهَاfīhāin themمَنَـٰفِعُmanāfiʿu(are) benefitsوَلِتَبْلُغُوا۟walitablughūand that you may reachعَلَيْهَاʿalayhāthrough themحَاجَةًۭḥājatana needفِى(that is) inصُدُورِكُمْṣudūrikumyour breastsوَعَلَيْهَاwaʿalayhāand upon themوَعَلَىwaʿalāand uponٱلْفُلْكِl-ful'kithe shipsتُحْمَلُونَtuḥ'malūnayou are carried
And for you therein are [other] benefits and that you may realize upon them a need which is in your breasts; and upon them and upon ships you are carried
⤳ Link 40:80
81
وَيُرِيكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ فَأَىَّ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُنكِرُونَ
وَيُرِيكُمْwayurīkumAnd He shows youءَايَـٰتِهِۦāyātihiHis Signsفَأَىَّfa-ayyaThen whichءَايَـٰتِāyāti(of the) Signsٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahتُنكِرُونَtunkirūnawill you deny
And He shows you His signs. So which of the signs of Allah do you deny
⤳ Link 40:81
82
أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَانُوٓا۟ أَكْثَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَأَشَدَّ قُوَّةًۭ وَءَاثَارًۭا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
أَفَلَمْafalamDo they notيَسِيرُوا۟yasīrūtravelفِىthroughٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landفَيَنظُرُوا۟fayanẓurūand seeكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) endٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoمِنmin(were) before themقَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihim(were) before themكَانُوٓا۟kānūThey wereأَكْثَرَaktharamore numerousمِنْهُمْmin'humthan themوَأَشَدَّwa-ashaddaand mightierقُوَّةًۭquwwatan(in) strengthوَءَاثَارًۭاwaāthāranand impressionsفِىinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe landفَمَآfamābut notأَغْنَىٰaghnāavailedعَنْهُمʿanhumthemمَّاwhatكَانُوا۟kānūthey used toيَكْسِبُونَyaksibūnaearn
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than themselves and greater in strength and in impression on the land, but they were not availed by what they used to earn
⤳ Link 40:82
83
فَلَمَّا جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
فَلَمَّاfalammāThen whenجَآءَتْهُمْjāathumcame to themرُسُلُهُمrusuluhumtheir Messengersبِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِbil-bayinātiwith clear proofsفَرِحُوا۟fariḥūthey rejoicedبِمَاbimāin whatعِندَهُمʿindahumthey hadمِّنَminaofٱلْعِلْمِl-ʿil'mithe knowledgeوَحَاقَwaḥāqaand envelopedبِهِمbihimthemمَّاwhatكَانُوا۟kānūthey used toبِهِۦbihi[at it]يَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūnamock
And when their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they [merely] rejoiced in what they had of knowledge, but they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule
⤳ Link 40:83
84
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا۟ بَأْسَنَا قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥ وَكَفَرْنَا بِمَا كُنَّا بِهِۦ مُشْرِكِينَ
فَلَمَّاfalammāSo whenرَأَوْا۟ra-awthey sawبَأْسَنَاbasanāOur punishmentقَالُوٓا۟qālūthey saidءَامَنَّاāmannāWe believeبِٱللَّهِbil-lahiin AllahوَحْدَهُۥwaḥdahuAloneوَكَفَرْنَاwakafarnāand we disbelieveبِمَاbimāin whatكُنَّاkunnāwe used toبِهِۦbihiwith Himمُشْرِكِينَmush'rikīnaassociate
And when they saw Our punishment, they said," We believe in Allah alone and disbelieve in that which we used to associate with Him
⤳ Link 40:84
85
فَلَمْ يَكُ يَنفَعُهُمْ إِيمَـٰنُهُمْ لَمَّا رَأَوْا۟ بَأْسَنَا ۖ سُنَّتَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِى قَدْ خَلَتْ فِى عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ
فَلَمْfalamBut did notيَكُyakuBut did notيَنفَعُهُمْyanfaʿuhumbenefit themإِيمَـٰنُهُمْīmānuhumtheir faithلَمَّاlammāwhenرَأَوْا۟ra-awthey sawبَأْسَنَا ۖbasanāOur punishmentسُنَّتَsunnata(Such is the) Wayٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahٱلَّتِىallatīwhichقَدْqad(has) indeedخَلَتْkhalatprecededفِىamongعِبَادِهِۦ ۖʿibādihiHis slavesوَخَسِرَwakhasiraAnd are lostهُنَالِكَhunālikathereٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
But never did their faith benefit them once they saw Our punishment. [It is] the established way of Allah which has preceded among His servants. And the disbelievers thereupon lost [all]
