Surah 36 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ يسٓ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
2
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِwal-qur'āniBy the Quranٱلْحَكِيمِl-ḥakīmithe Wise
By the wise Qur'an
⤳ Link
36:2
3
إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, youلَمِنَlamina(are) amongٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengers
Indeed you, [O Muhammad], are from among the messengers

36:3
4
عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ
عَلَىٰʿalāOnصِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭina Pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminStraight
On a straight path
⤳ Link
36:4
5
تَنزِيلَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
تَنزِيلَtanzīlaA revelationٱلْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi(of) the All-Mightyٱلرَّحِيمِl-raḥīmithe Most Merciful
[This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful

36:5
6
لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًۭا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَـٰفِلُونَ
لِتُنذِرَlitundhiraThat you may warnقَوْمًۭاqawmana peopleمَّآmānotأُنذِرَundhirawere warnedءَابَآؤُهُمْābāuhumtheir forefathersفَهُمْfahumso theyغَـٰفِلُونَghāfilūna(are) heedless
That you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware

36:6
7
لَقَدْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰٓ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
لَقَدْlaqadCertainlyحَقَّḥaqqa(has) proved trueٱلْقَوْلُl-qawluthe wordعَلَىٰٓʿalāuponأَكْثَرِهِمْaktharihimmost of themفَهُمْfahumso theyلَاlā(do) notيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve
Already the word has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe

36:7
8
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَـٰلًۭا فَهِىَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnā[We] have placedفِىٓfīonأَعْنَـٰقِهِمْaʿnāqihimtheir necksأَغْلَـٰلًۭاaghlālaniron collarsفَهِىَfahiyaand theyإِلَىilā(are up) toٱلْأَذْقَانِl-adhqānithe chinsفَهُمfahumso theyمُّقْمَحُونَmuq'maḥūna(are with) heads raised up
Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads [kept] aloft

36:8
9
وَجَعَلْنَا مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّۭا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّۭا فَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We have madeمِنۢminfromبَيْنِbaynibefore/betweenأَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir hands/their frontسَدًّۭاsaddana barrierوَمِنْwaminand fromخَلْفِهِمْkhalfihimbehind themسَدًّۭاsaddana barrierفَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْfa-aghshaynāhumand We covered themفَهُمْfahumso theyلَاlā(do) notيُبْصِرُونَyub'ṣirūnasee
And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see

36:9
10
وَسَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
وَسَوَآءٌwasawāonAnd it (is) sameعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْa-andhartahumwhether you warn themأَمْamorلَمْlam(do) notتُنذِرْهُمْtundhir'humwarn themلَاlānotيُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey will believe
And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe

36:10
11
إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَخَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍۢ وَأَجْرٍۢ كَرِيمٍ
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyتُنذِرُtundhiruyou (can) warnمَنِmani(him) whoٱتَّبَعَittabaʿafollowsٱلذِّكْرَl-dhik'rathe Reminderوَخَشِىَwakhashiyaand fearsٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَl-raḥmānathe Most Graciousبِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖbil-ghaybiin the unseenفَبَشِّرْهُfabashir'huSo give him glad tidingsبِمَغْفِرَةٍۢbimaghfiratinof forgivenessوَأَجْرٍۢwa-ajrinand a rewardكَرِيمٍkarīminnoble
You can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward

12
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ فِىٓ إِمَامٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weنَحْنُnaḥnu[We]نُحْىِnuḥ'yī[We] give lifeٱلْمَوْتَىٰl-mawtā(to) the deadوَنَكْتُبُwanaktubuand We recordمَاmāwhatقَدَّمُوا۟qaddamūthey have sent beforeوَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ ۚwaāthārahumand their footprintsوَكُلَّwakullaand everyشَىْءٍshayinthingأَحْصَيْنَـٰهُaḥṣaynāhuWe have enumerated itفِىٓfīinإِمَامٍۢimāmina Registerمُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear
Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register

13
وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
وَٱضْرِبْwa-iḍ'ribAnd set forthلَهُمlahumto themمَّثَلًاmathalanan exampleأَصْحَـٰبَaṣḥāba(of the) companionsٱلْقَرْيَةِl-qaryati(of) the cityإِذْidhwhenجَآءَهَاjāahācame to itٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūnathe Messengers
And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it

36:13
14
إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍۢ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ
إِذْidhWhenأَرْسَلْنَآarsalnāWe sentإِلَيْهِمُilayhimuto themٱثْنَيْنِith'naynitwo (Messengers)فَكَذَّبُوهُمَاfakadhabūhumābut they denied both of themفَعَزَّزْنَاfaʿazzaznāso We strengthened themبِثَالِثٍۢbithālithinwith a thirdفَقَالُوٓا۟faqālūand they saidإِنَّآinnāIndeed, Weإِلَيْكُمilaykumto youمُّرْسَلُونَmur'salūna(are) Messengers
When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you

15
قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidمَآmāNotأَنتُمْantumyouإِلَّاillā(are) butبَشَرٌۭbasharunhuman beingsمِّثْلُنَاmith'lunālike usوَمَآwamāand notأَنزَلَanzalahas revealedٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānuthe Most GraciousمِنminanyشَىْءٍshayinthingإِنْinNotأَنتُمْantumyouإِلَّاillā(are) butتَكْذِبُونَtakdhibūnalying
They said, "You are not but human beings like us, and the Most Merciful has not revealed a thing. You are only telling lies

36:15
16
قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidرَبُّنَاrabbunāOur Lordيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsإِنَّآinnāthat weإِلَيْكُمْilaykumto youلَمُرْسَلُونَlamur'salūna(are) surely Messengers
They said, "Our Lord knows that we are messengers to you

36:16
17
وَمَا عَلَيْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ
وَمَاwamāAnd notعَلَيْنَآʿalaynā(is) on usإِلَّاillāexceptٱلْبَلَـٰغُl-balāghuthe conveyanceٱلْمُبِينُl-mubīnuclear
And we are not responsible except for clear notification

36:17
18
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ
قَالُوٓا۟qālūThey saidإِنَّاinnāIndeed, weتَطَيَّرْنَاtaṭayyarnā[we] see an evil omenبِكُمْ ۖbikumfrom youلَئِنla-inIfلَّمْlamnotتَنتَهُوا۟tantahūyou desistلَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْlanarjumannakumsurely, we will stone youوَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُمwalayamassannakumand surely will touch youمِّنَّاminnāfrom usعَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishmentأَلِيمٌۭalīmunpainful
They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment

36:18
19
قَالُوا۟ طَـٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّسْرِفُونَ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey saidطَـٰٓئِرُكُمṭāirukumYour evil omenمَّعَكُمْ ۚmaʿakum(be) with youأَئِنa-inIs it becauseذُكِّرْتُم ۚdhukkir'tumyou are admonishedبَلْbalNayأَنتُمْantumyouقَوْمٌۭqawmun(are) a peopleمُّسْرِفُونَmus'rifūnatransgressing
They said, "Your omen is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people

36:19
20
وَجَآءَ مِنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌۭ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
وَجَآءَwajāaAnd cameمِنْminfromأَقْصَاaqṣā(the) farthest endٱلْمَدِينَةِl-madīnati(of) the cityرَجُلٌۭrajuluna manيَسْعَىٰyasʿārunningقَالَqālaHe saidيَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my Peopleٱتَّبِعُوا۟ittabiʿūFollowٱلْمُرْسَلِينَl-mur'salīnathe Messengers
And there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers

21
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ أَجْرًۭا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ittabiʿūFollowمَنman(those) whoلَّاlā(do) notيَسْـَٔلُكُمْyasalukumask (of) youأَجْرًۭاajranany paymentوَهُمwahumand theyمُّهْتَدُونَmuh'tadūna(are) rightly guided
Follow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided

36:21
22
وَمَا لِىَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
وَمَاwamāAnd whatلِىَliya(is) for meلَآlā(that) notأَعْبُدُaʿbuduI worshipٱلَّذِىalladhīthe One Whoفَطَرَنِىfaṭaranīcreated meوَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Whomتُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
And why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned

23
ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ بِضُرٍّۢ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ
ءَأَتَّخِذُa-attakhidhuShould I takeمِنminbesides Himدُونِهِۦٓdūnihibesides HimءَالِهَةًālihatangodsإِنinIfيُرِدْنِyurid'niintends for meٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānuthe Most Graciousبِضُرٍّۢbiḍurrinany harmلَّاlānotتُغْنِtugh'niwill availعَنِّىʿannī[from] meشَفَـٰعَتُهُمْshafāʿatuhumtheir intercessionشَيْـًۭٔاshayan(in) anythingوَلَاwalāand notيُنقِذُونِyunqidhūnithey (can) save me
Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me

36:23
24
إِنِّىٓ إِذًۭا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍ
إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iإِذًۭاidhanthenلَّفِىlafīsurely would be inضَلَـٰلٍۢḍalālinan errorمُّبِينٍmubīninclear
Indeed, I would then be in manifest error

25
إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ
إِنِّىٓinnīIndeed, Iءَامَنتُāmantu[I] have believedبِرَبِّكُمْbirabbikumin your Lordفَٱسْمَعُونِfa-is'maʿūniso listen to me
Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me

26
قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖ قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِى يَعْلَمُونَ
قِيلَqīlaIt was saidٱدْخُلِud'khuliEnterٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖl-janataParadiseقَالَqālaHe saidيَـٰلَيْتَyālaytaI wishقَوْمِىqawmīmy peopleيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnaknew
It was said, "Enter Paradise." He said, "I wish my people could know

27
بِمَا غَفَرَ لِى رَبِّى وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ
بِمَاbimāOf howغَفَرَghafarahas forgivenلِىlīmeرَبِّىrabbīmy Lordوَجَعَلَنِىwajaʿalanīand placed meمِنَminaamongٱلْمُكْرَمِينَl-muk'ramīnathe honored ones
Of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored

36:27
28
۞ وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ
۞ وَمَآwamāAnd notأَنزَلْنَاanzalnāWe sent downعَلَىٰʿalāuponقَوْمِهِۦqawmihihis peopleمِنۢminafter himبَعْدِهِۦbaʿdihiafter himمِنminanyجُندٍۢjundinhostمِّنَminafromٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe heavenوَمَاwamāand notكُنَّاkunnāwere Weمُنزِلِينَmunzilīna(to) send down
And We did not send down upon his people after him any soldiers from the heaven, nor would We have done so

36:28
29
إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ خَـٰمِدُونَ
إِنinNotكَانَتْkānatit wasإِلَّاillābutصَيْحَةًۭṣayḥatana shoutوَٰحِدَةًۭwāḥidatanoneفَإِذَاfa-idhāthen beholdهُمْhumTheyخَـٰمِدُونَkhāmidūna(were) extinguished
It was not but one shout, and immediately they were extinguished

36:29
30
يَـٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
يَـٰحَسْرَةًyāḥasratanAlasعَلَىʿalāforٱلْعِبَادِ ۚl-ʿibādithe servantsمَاmāNotيَأْتِيهِمyatīhimcame to themمِّنminanyرَّسُولٍrasūlinMessengerإِلَّاillābutكَانُوا۟kānūthey didبِهِۦbihimock at himيَسْتَهْزِءُونَyastahziūnamock at him
How regretful for the servants. There did not come to them any messenger except that they used to ridicule him

31
أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ
أَلَمْalamDo notيَرَوْا۟yarawthey seeكَمْkamhow manyأَهْلَكْنَاahlaknāWe destroyedقَبْلَهُمqablahumbefore themمِّنَminaofٱلْقُرُونِl-qurūnithe generationsأَنَّهُمْannahumThat theyإِلَيْهِمْilayhimto themلَاlāwill not returnيَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnawill not return
Have they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them - that they to them will not return

36:31
32
وَإِن كُلٌّۭ لَّمَّا جَمِيعٌۭ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ
وَإِنwa-inAnd surelyكُلٌّۭkullunallلَّمَّاlammāthenجَمِيعٌۭjamīʿuntogetherلَّدَيْنَاladaynābefore Usمُحْضَرُونَmuḥ'ḍarūna(will be) brought
And indeed, all of them will yet be brought present before Us

36:32
33
وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَـٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّۭا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ
وَءَايَةٌۭwaāyatunAnd a Signلَّهُمُlahumufor themٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍu(is) the earthٱلْمَيْتَةُl-maytatudeadأَحْيَيْنَـٰهَاaḥyaynāhāWe give it lifeوَأَخْرَجْنَاwa-akhrajnāand We bring forthمِنْهَاmin'hāfrom itحَبًّۭاḥabbangrainفَمِنْهُfamin'huand from itيَأْكُلُونَyakulūnathey eat
And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat

36:33
34
وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّـٰتٍۢ مِّن نَّخِيلٍۢ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ
وَجَعَلْنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We placedفِيهَاfīhāthereinجَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātingardensمِّنminofنَّخِيلٍۢnakhīlindate-palmsوَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢwa-aʿnābinand grapevinesوَفَجَّرْنَاwafajjarnāand We caused to gush forthفِيهَاfīhāin itمِنَminaofٱلْعُيُونِl-ʿuyūnithe springs
And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs

35
لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ
لِيَأْكُلُوا۟liyakulūThat they may eatمِنminofثَمَرِهِۦthamarihiits fruitوَمَاwamāAnd notعَمِلَتْهُʿamilathumade itأَيْدِيهِمْ ۖaydīhimtheir handsأَفَلَاafalāSo will notيَشْكُرُونَyashkurūnathey be grateful
That they may eat of His fruit. And their hands have not produced it, so will they not be grateful

36
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
سُبْحَـٰنَsub'ḥānaGlory beٱلَّذِىalladhī(to) the One Whoخَلَقَkhalaqacreatedٱلْأَزْوَٰجَl-azwāja(in) pairsكُلَّهَاkullahāallمِمَّاmimmāof whatتُنۢبِتُtunbitugrowsٱلْأَرْضُl-arḍuthe earthوَمِنْwaminand ofأَنفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselvesوَمِمَّاwamimmāand of whatلَاlānotيَعْلَمُونَyaʿlamūnathey know
Exalted is He who created all pairs - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know

37
وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظْلِمُونَ
وَءَايَةٌۭwaāyatunAnd a Signلَّهُمُlahumufor themٱلَّيْلُal-laylu(is) the nightنَسْلَخُnaslakhuWe withdrawمِنْهُmin'hufrom itٱلنَّهَارَl-nahārathe dayفَإِذَاfa-idhāThen beholdهُمhumTheyمُّظْلِمُونَmuẓ'limūna(are) those in darkness
And a sign for them is the night. We remove from it [the light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness

36:37
38
وَٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِى لِمُسْتَقَرٍّۢ لَّهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ
وَٱلشَّمْسُwal-shamsuAnd the sunتَجْرِىtajrīrunsلِمُسْتَقَرٍّۢlimus'taqarrinto a term appointedلَّهَا ۚlahāfor itذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatتَقْدِيرُtaqdīru(is the) Decreeٱلْعَزِيزِl-ʿazīzi(of) the All-Mightyٱلْعَلِيمِl-ʿalīmithe All-Knowing
And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing

39
وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ
وَٱلْقَمَرَwal-qamaraAnd the moon قَدَّرْنَـٰهُqaddarnāhuWe have ordained for itمَنَازِلَmanāzilaphasesحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilعَادَʿādait returnsكَٱلْعُرْجُونِkal-ʿur'jūnilike the date stalkٱلْقَدِيمِl-qadīmithe old
And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk

40
لَا ٱلشَّمْسُ يَنۢبَغِى لَهَآ أَن تُدْرِكَ ٱلْقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّيْلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّۭ فِى فَلَكٍۢ يَسْبَحُونَ
لَاlāNotٱلشَّمْسُl-shamsuthe sunيَنۢبَغِىyanbaghīis permittedلَهَآlahāfor it أَنanthatتُدْرِكَtud'rikait overtakesٱلْقَمَرَl-qamarathe moonوَلَاwalāand notٱلَّيْلُal-layluthe nightسَابِقُsābiqu(can) outstripٱلنَّهَارِ ۚl-nahārithe dayوَكُلٌّۭwakullunbut allفِىfīinفَلَكٍۢfalakinan orbitيَسْبَحُونَyasbaḥūnathey are floating
It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming

41
وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
وَءَايَةٌۭwaāyatunAnd a Signلَّهُمْlahumfor themأَنَّاannā(is) thatحَمَلْنَاḥamalnāWe carriedذُرِّيَّتَهُمْdhurriyyatahumtheir offspringفِىfīinٱلْفُلْكِl-ful'kithe shipٱلْمَشْحُونِl-mashḥūniladen
And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship

42
وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ
وَخَلَقْنَاwakhalaqnāAnd We createdلَهُمlahumfor themمِّنminfromمِّثْلِهِۦmith'lihi(the) likes of itمَاmāwhatيَرْكَبُونَyarkabūnathey ride
And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride

36:42
43
وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ
وَإِنwa-inAnd ifنَّشَأْnashaWe willنُغْرِقْهُمْnugh'riq'humWe could drown themفَلَاfalāthen notصَرِيخَṣarīkha(would be) a responder to a cryلَهُمْlahumfor themوَلَاwalāand notهُمْhumtheyيُنقَذُونَyunqadhūnawould be saved
And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved

44
إِلَّا رَحْمَةًۭ مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍۢ
إِلَّاillāExceptرَحْمَةًۭraḥmatan(by) Mercyمِّنَّاminnāfrom Usوَمَتَـٰعًاwamatāʿanand provisionإِلَىٰilāforحِينٍۢḥīnina time
Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time

36:44
45
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenقِيلَqīlait is saidلَهُمُlahumuto themٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFearمَاmāwhatبَيْنَbayna(is) before youأَيْدِيكُمْaydīkum(is) before youوَمَاwamāand whatخَلْفَكُمْkhalfakum(is) behind youلَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you mayتُرْحَمُونَtur'ḥamūnareceive mercy
But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy

46
وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍۢ مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ
وَمَاwamāAnd notتَأْتِيهِمtatīhimcomes to themمِّنْminofءَايَةٍۢāyatina Signمِّنْminfromءَايَـٰتِāyāti(the) Signsرَبِّهِمْrabbihim(of) their Lordإِلَّاillābutكَانُوا۟kānūtheyعَنْهَاʿanhāfrom itمُعْرِضِينَmuʿ'riḍīnaturn away
And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away

47
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd whenقِيلَqīlait is saidلَهُمْlahumto themأَنفِقُوا۟anfiqūSpendمِمَّاmimmāfrom whatرَزَقَكُمُrazaqakumu(has) provided youٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahقَالَqālaSaidٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelievedلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūbelievedأَنُطْعِمُanuṭ'ʿimuShould we feedمَنmanwhomلَّوْlawifيَشَآءُyashāuAllah willed ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah willed أَطْعَمَهُۥٓaṭʿamahuHe would have fed himإِنْinNotأَنتُمْantum(are) youإِلَّاillāexceptفِىfīinضَلَـٰلٍۢḍalālinan errorمُّبِينٍۢmubīninclear
And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error

48
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
وَيَقُولُونَwayaqūlūnaAnd they sayمَتَىٰmatāWhen (is)هَـٰذَاhādhāthisٱلْوَعْدُl-waʿdupromiseإِنinifكُنتُمْkuntumyou areصَـٰدِقِينَṣādiqīnatruthful
And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful

49
مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ
مَاmāNotيَنظُرُونَyanẓurūnathey awaitإِلَّاillāexceptصَيْحَةًۭṣayḥatana shoutوَٰحِدَةًۭwāḥidatanoneتَأْخُذُهُمْtakhudhuhumit will seize themوَهُمْwahumwhile theyيَخِصِّمُونَyakhiṣṣimūnaare disputing
They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing

36:49
50
فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةًۭ وَلَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
فَلَاfalāThen notيَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnathey will be ableتَوْصِيَةًۭtawṣiyatan(to) make a willوَلَآwalāand notإِلَىٰٓilātoأَهْلِهِمْahlihimtheir peopleيَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnathey (can) return
And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return

36:50
51
وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ
وَنُفِخَwanufikhaAnd will be blownفِىfī[in]ٱلصُّورِl-ṣūrithe trumpetفَإِذَاfa-idhāand beholdهُمhumTheyمِّنَminafromٱلْأَجْدَاثِl-ajdāthithe gravesإِلَىٰilātoرَبِّهِمْrabbihimtheir Lordيَنسِلُونَyansilūna[they] will hasten
And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten

52
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
قَالُوا۟qālūThey [will] sayيَـٰوَيْلَنَاyāwaylanāO woe to usمَنۢmanWhoبَعَثَنَاbaʿathanāhas raised usمِنminfromمَّرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗmarqadināour sleeping placeهَـٰذَاhādhāThis (is)مَاmāWhatوَعَدَwaʿada(had) promisedٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُl-raḥmānuthe Most Graciousوَصَدَقَwaṣadaqaand told (the) truthٱلْمُرْسَلُونَl-mur'salūnathe Messengers
They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth

53
إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌۭ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ
إِنinNotكَانَتْkānatit will beإِلَّاillābutصَيْحَةًۭṣayḥatana shoutوَٰحِدَةًۭwāḥidatansingleفَإِذَاfa-idhāso beholdهُمْhumTheyجَمِيعٌۭjamīʿunallلَّدَيْنَاladaynābefore Usمُحْضَرُونَmuḥ'ḍarūna(will be) brought
It will not be but one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us

36:53
54
فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌۭ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
فَٱلْيَوْمَfal-yawmaSo this Dayلَاlānotتُظْلَمُtuẓ'lamuwill be wrongedنَفْسٌۭnafsuna soulشَيْـًۭٔاshayan(in) anythingوَلَاwalāand notتُجْزَوْنَtuj'zawnayou will be recompensedإِلَّاillāexceptمَاmā(for) whatكُنتُمْkuntumyou used (to)تَعْمَلُونَtaʿmalūnado
So today no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do

55
إِنَّ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى شُغُلٍۢ فَـٰكِهُونَ
إِنَّinnaIndeedأَصْحَـٰبَaṣḥāba(the) companionsٱلْجَنَّةِl-janati(of) Paradiseٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmathis Dayفِىfī[in]شُغُلٍۢshughulinwill be occupiedفَـٰكِهُونَfākihūna(in) amusement
Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation

56
هُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ مُتَّكِـُٔونَ
هُمْhumTheyوَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْwa-azwājuhumand their spousesفِىfīinظِلَـٰلٍẓilālinshadesعَلَىʿalāonٱلْأَرَآئِكِl-arāiki[the] couchesمُتَّكِـُٔونَmuttakiūnareclining
They and their spouses - in shade, reclining on adorned couches

36:56
57
لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌۭ وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ
لَهُمْlahumFor themفِيهَاfīhāthereinفَـٰكِهَةٌۭfākihatun(are) fruitsوَلَهُمwalahumand for themمَّاmā(is) whateverيَدَّعُونَyaddaʿūnathey call for
For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]

58
سَلَـٰمٌۭ قَوْلًۭا مِّن رَّبٍّۢ رَّحِيمٍۢ
سَلَـٰمٌۭsalāmunPeaceقَوْلًۭاqawlanA wordمِّنminfromرَّبٍّۢrabbina LordرَّحِيمٍۢraḥīminMost Merciful
[And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord

59
وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟wa-im'tāzūBut stand apartٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayأَيُّهَاayyuhāO criminalsٱلْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnaO criminals
[Then He will say], "But stand apart today, you criminals

36:59
60
۞ أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
۞ أَلَمْalamDid notأَعْهَدْaʿhadI enjoinإِلَيْكُمْilaykumupon youيَـٰبَنِىٓyābanīO Children of AdamءَادَمَādamaO Children of AdamأَنanThatلَّاlā(do) notتَعْبُدُوا۟taʿbudūworshipٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖl-shayṭānathe Shaitaanإِنَّهُۥinnahuindeed, heلَكُمْlakum(is) for youعَدُوٌّۭʿaduwwunan enemyمُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear
Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy

36:60
61
وَأَنِ ٱعْبُدُونِى ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌۭ مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭ
وَأَنِwa-aniAnd thatٱعْبُدُونِى ۚuʿ'budūnīyou worship MeهَـٰذَاhādhāThisصِرَٰطٌۭṣirāṭun(is) a Pathمُّسْتَقِيمٌۭmus'taqīmunStraight
And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path

36:61
62
وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمْ جِبِلًّۭا كَثِيرًا ۖ أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعْقِلُونَ
وَلَقَدْwalaqadAnd indeedأَضَلَّaḍallahe led astrayمِنكُمْminkumfrom youجِبِلًّۭاjibillana multitudeكَثِيرًا ۖkathīrangreatأَفَلَمْafalamThen did notتَكُونُوا۟takūnūyouتَعْقِلُونَtaʿqilūnause reason
And he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason

63
هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ
هَـٰذِهِۦhādhihiThis (is)جَهَنَّمُjahannamu(the) Hellٱلَّتِىallatīwhichكُنتُمْkuntumyou wereتُوعَدُونَtūʿadūnapromised
This is the Hellfire which you were promised

64
ٱصْلَوْهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ
ٱصْلَوْهَاiṣ'lawhāBurn thereinٱلْيَوْمَl-yawmatodayبِمَاbimābecauseكُنتُمْkuntumyou used toتَكْفُرُونَtakfurūnadisbelieve
[Enter to] burn therein today for what you used to deny

36:64
65
ٱلْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَىٰٓ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
ٱلْيَوْمَal-yawmaThis DayنَخْتِمُnakhtimuWe will sealعَلَىٰٓʿalā[on]أَفْوَٰهِهِمْafwāhihimtheir mouthsوَتُكَلِّمُنَآwatukallimunāand will speak to Usأَيْدِيهِمْaydīhimtheir handsوَتَشْهَدُwatashhaduand will bear witnessأَرْجُلُهُمarjuluhumtheir feetبِمَاbimāabout whatكَانُوا۟kānūthey used toيَكْسِبُونَyaksibūnaearn
That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn

66
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ
وَلَوْwalawAnd ifنَشَآءُnashāuWe willedلَطَمَسْنَاlaṭamasnāWe (would have) surely obliteratedعَلَىٰٓʿalā[over]أَعْيُنِهِمْaʿyunihimtheir eyesفَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟fa-is'tabaqūthen they (would) raceٱلصِّرَٰطَl-ṣirāṭa(to find) the pathفَأَنَّىٰfa-annāthen howيُبْصِرُونَyub'ṣirūna(could) they see
And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see

36:66
67
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِيًّۭا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ
وَلَوْwalawAnd ifنَشَآءُnashāuWe willedلَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْlamasakhnāhumsurely, We (would have) transformed themعَلَىٰʿalāinمَكَانَتِهِمْmakānatihimtheir placesفَمَاfamāthen notٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟is'taṭāʿūthey would have been ableمُضِيًّۭاmuḍiyyanto proceedوَلَاwalāand notيَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn
And if We willed, We could have deformed them, [paralyzing them] in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return

36:67
68
وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ ۖ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ
وَمَنwamanAnd (he) whomنُّعَمِّرْهُnuʿammir'huWe grant him long lifeنُنَكِّسْهُnunakkis'huWe reverse himفِىfīinٱلْخَلْقِ ۖl-khalqithe creationأَفَلَاafalāThen will notيَعْقِلُونَyaʿqilūnathey use intellect
And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation; so will they not understand

36:68
69
وَمَا عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌۭ وَقُرْءَانٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
وَمَاwamāAnd notعَلَّمْنَـٰهُʿallamnāhuWe taught himٱلشِّعْرَl-shiʿ'ra[the] poetryوَمَاwamāand notيَنۢبَغِىyanbaghīit is befittingلَهُۥٓ ۚlahufor himإِنْinNotهُوَhuwaitإِلَّاillā(is) exceptذِكْرٌۭdhik'runa Reminderوَقُرْءَانٌۭwaqur'ānunand a Quranمُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear
And We did not give Prophet Muhammad, knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur'an

70
لِّيُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَيًّۭا وَيَحِقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
لِّيُنذِرَliyundhiraTo warnمَنman(him) whoكَانَkānaisحَيًّۭاḥayyanaliveوَيَحِقَّwayaḥiqqaand may be proved trueٱلْقَوْلُl-qawluthe Wordعَلَىʿalāagainstٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers
To warn whoever is alive and justify the word against the disbelievers

36:70
71
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ أَيْدِينَآ أَنْعَـٰمًۭا فَهُمْ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ
أَوَلَمْawalamDo notيَرَوْا۟yarawthey seeأَنَّاannāthat Weخَلَقْنَاkhalaqnā[We] createdلَهُمlahumfor themمِّمَّاmimmāfrom whatعَمِلَتْʿamilathave madeأَيْدِينَآaydīnāOur handsأَنْعَـٰمًۭاanʿāmancattleفَهُمْfahumthen theyلَهَاlahā[for them]مَـٰلِكُونَmālikūna(are the) owners
Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands have made, grazing livestock, and [then] they are their owners

72
وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ
وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَاwadhallalnāhāAnd We have tamed themلَهُمْlahumfor themفَمِنْهَاfamin'hāso some of them رَكُوبُهُمْrakūbuhumthey ride themوَمِنْهَاwamin'hāand some of themيَأْكُلُونَyakulūnathey eat
And We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat

73
وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ
وَلَهُمْwalahumAnd for themفِيهَاfīhāthereinمَنَـٰفِعُmanāfiʿu(are) benefitsوَمَشَارِبُ ۖwamashāribuand drinksأَفَلَاafalāso (will) notيَشْكُرُونَyashkurūnathey give thanks
And for them therein are [other] benefits and drinks, so will they not be grateful

36:73
74
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةًۭ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟wa-ittakhadhūBut they have takenمِنminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahءَالِهَةًۭālihatangodsلَّعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumthat they mayيُنصَرُونَyunṣarūnabe helped
But they have taken besides Allah [false] deities that perhaps they would be helped

75
لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌۭ مُّحْضَرُونَ
لَاlāNotيَسْتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnathey are ableنَصْرَهُمْnaṣrahumto help themوَهُمْwahumbut they لَهُمْlahumfor themجُندٌۭjundun(are) hostsمُّحْضَرُونَmuḥ'ḍarūna(who will) be brought
They are not able to help them, and they [themselves] are for them soldiers in attendance

76
فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
فَلَاfalāSo (let) notيَحْزُنكَyaḥzunkagrieve youقَوْلُهُمْ ۘqawluhumtheir speechإِنَّاinnāIndeed, Weنَعْلَمُnaʿlamu[We] knowمَاmāwhatيُسِرُّونَyusirrūnathey concealوَمَاwamāand whatيُعْلِنُونَyuʿ'linūnathey declare
So let not their speech grieve you. Indeed, We know what they conceal and what they declare

36:76
77
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطْفَةٍۢ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
أَوَلَمْawalamDoes notيَرَyaraseeٱلْإِنسَـٰنُl-insānu[the] manأَنَّاannāthat Weخَلَقْنَـٰهُkhalaqnāhu[We] created himمِنminfromنُّطْفَةٍۢnuṭ'fatina semen-dropفَإِذَاfa-idhāThen beholdهُوَhuwaHeخَصِيمٌۭkhaṣīmun(is) an opponentمُّبِينٌۭmubīnunclear
Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once he is a clear adversary

36:77
78
وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًۭا وَنَسِىَ خَلْقَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ مَن يُحْىِ ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ وَهِىَ رَمِيمٌۭ
وَضَرَبَwaḍarabaAnd he sets forthلَنَاlanāfor Usمَثَلًۭاmathalanan exampleوَنَسِىَwanasiyaand forgetsخَلْقَهُۥ ۖkhalqahuhis (own) creationقَالَqālaHe saysمَنmanWhoيُحْىِyuḥ'yīwill give lifeٱلْعِظَـٰمَl-ʿiẓāma(to) the bonesوَهِىَwahiyawhile theyرَمِيمٌۭramīmun(are) decomposed
And he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated

36:78
79
قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَهَآ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍۢ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ
قُلْqulSayيُحْيِيهَاyuḥ'yīhāHe will give them lifeٱلَّذِىٓalladhīWhoأَنشَأَهَآansha-ahāproduced themأَوَّلَawwala(the) firstمَرَّةٍۢ ۖmarratintimeوَهُوَwahuwaand Heبِكُلِّbikulli(is) of everyخَلْقٍkhalqincreationعَلِيمٌʿalīmunAll-Knower
Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing

80
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلْأَخْضَرِ نَارًۭا فَإِذَآ أَنتُم مِّنْهُ تُوقِدُونَ
ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One Whoجَعَلَjaʿalamadeلَكُمlakumfor youمِّنَminafromٱلشَّجَرِl-shajarithe treeٱلْأَخْضَرِl-akhḍari[the] green نَارًۭاnāranfireفَإِذَآfa-idhāand beholdأَنتُمantumYouمِّنْهُmin'hufrom itتُوقِدُونَtūqidūnaignite
[It is] He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite

36:80
81
أَوَلَيْسَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
أَوَلَيْسَawalaysaIs it notٱلَّذِىalladhī(He) Whoخَلَقَkhalaqacreatedٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavensوَٱلْأَرْضَwal-arḍaand the earthبِقَـٰدِرٍbiqādirinAbleعَلَىٰٓʿalātoأَنan[that]يَخْلُقَyakhluqacreateمِثْلَهُم ۚmith'lahum(the) like of themبَلَىٰbalāYes, indeedوَهُوَwahuwaand Heٱلْخَلَّـٰقُl-khalāqu(is) the Supreme Creatorٱلْعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator

82
إِنَّمَآ أَمْرُهُۥٓ إِذَآ أَرَادَ شَيْـًٔا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnlyأَمْرُهُۥٓamruhuHis CommandإِذَآidhāwhenأَرَادَarādaHe intendsشَيْـًٔاshayana thingأَنanthatيَقُولَyaqūlaHe saysلَهُۥlahuto itكُنkunBeفَيَكُونُfayakūnuand it is
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is

83
فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
فَسُبْحَـٰنَfasub'ḥānaSo glory beٱلَّذِىalladhī(to) the One whoبِيَدِهِۦbiyadihiin Whose handمَلَكُوتُmalakūtuis (the) dominionكُلِّkulli(of) allشَىْءٍۢshayinthingsوَإِلَيْهِwa-ilayhiand to Himتُرْجَعُونَtur'jaʿūnayou will be returned
So exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned
