Surah 101 of 114 · Makki
سُورَةُ القَارِعَةِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
مَاmāWhatٱلْقَارِعَةُl-qāriʿatu(is) the Striking Calamity
What is the Striking Calamity

101:2
3
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ
وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَadrākawill make you knowمَاmāwhatٱلْقَارِعَةُl-qāriʿatu(is) the Striking Calamity
And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity

101:3
4
يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ
يَوْمَyawma(The) Dayيَكُونُyakūnuwill beٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe mankindكَٱلْفَرَاشِkal-farāshilike mothsٱلْمَبْثُوثِl-mabthūthiscattered
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed

101:4
5
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ
وَتَكُونُwatakūnuAnd will beٱلْجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountainsكَٱلْعِهْنِkal-ʿih'nilike woolٱلْمَنفُوشِl-manfūshifluffed up
And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up

101:5
6
فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as forمَنman(him) whoseثَقُلَتْthaqulat(are) heavyمَوَٰزِينُهُۥmawāzīnuhuhis scales
Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds]

7
فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍۢ رَّاضِيَةٍۢ
فَهُوَfahuwaThen heفِىfī(will be) inعِيشَةٍۢʿīshatina lifeرَّاضِيَةٍۢrāḍiyatinpleasant
He will be in a pleasant life

8
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as forمَنْman(him) whoseخَفَّتْkhaffat(are) lightمَوَٰزِينُهُۥmawāzīnuhuhis scales
But as for one whose scales are light

101:8
9
فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌۭ
فَأُمُّهُۥfa-ummuhuHis abodeهَاوِيَةٌۭhāwiyatun(will be the) Pit
His refuge will be an abyss

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ
وَمَآwamāAnd whatأَدْرَىٰكَadrākawill make you knowمَاmāwhatهِيَهْhiyahit is
And what can make you know what that is

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ
نَارٌnārunA Fireحَامِيَةٌۢḥāmiyatunintensely hot
It is a Fire, intensely hot
