Dua for forgiveness
Everyone carries things they wish they could unsay or undo. These duas are the most direct words in the tradition for asking forgiveness, including the one known as the master of seeking forgiveness.

Allahumma Anta Rabbi, La Ilaha Illa Anta — Sayyidul Istighfar (Master of Forgiveness)
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allahumma anta Rabbi, la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka, wa ana 'ala 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu, a'udhu bika min sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u laka bi ni'matika 'alayya, wa abu'u laka bidhanbi, faghfir lee, fa innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa anta
O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide by Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me, and I acknowledge my sin. So forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6306
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni — 'Afwu Dua of Laylatul Qadr
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun karimun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni
O Allah, You are the Pardoner, the Generous, You love to pardon, so pardon me.

The repentance of Adam and Hawwa
قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَآ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ
qālā rabbanā ẓalamnā anfusanā wa-in lam taghfir lanā watarḥamnā lanakūnanna mina l-khāsirīna
They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers
Quran 7:23
The prayer for forgiveness and mercy
وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ وَٱرْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
waqul rabbi igh'fir wa-ir'ḥam wa-anta khayru l-rāḥimīna
And, [O Muhammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful
