What are the five pillars of Islam?

1 hadith source1 min read

The five pillars of Islam are the core acts of worship that form a Muslim’s religious foundation:

  1. 1Shahadah — testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger.
  2. 2Salah — performing the five obligatory daily prayers.
  3. 3Zakah — giving obligatory charity from qualifying wealth.
  4. 4Sawm — fasting during the month of Ramadan.
  5. 5Hajj — performing pilgrimage to the Kaaba once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able.
Keep in mind

When a man asked the Prophet ﷺ what Allah had made obligatory for him, he named the five daily prayers and the fast of Ramadan, among other duties (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 1891).
