How many rak'ahs are in each of the five daily prayers?

1 hadith source1 min read

The obligatory fard prayers are:

  1. 1Fajr: 2 rak‘ahs
  2. 2Dhuhr: 4 rak‘ahs
  3. 3Asr: 4 rak‘ahs
  4. 4Maghrib: 3 rak‘ahs
  5. 5Isha: 4 rak‘ahs
Keep in mind

A rak‘ah is one unit of prayer. These numbers refer to the obligatory prayers; additional Sunnah and voluntary prayers are separate. The five daily prayers are a means of expiation for sins between them when major sins are avoided (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 552).
