How this checklist works
Choose who you are packing for and the trip. Men see the ihram sheets and belt; women see the clothing and period items. Hajj adds pebble bags, a sleeping mat and the package documents. Add anything else you need in “Your own items”.
Your ticks and items are kept in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent or stored anywhere else. Print checklist prints the list for your choice on one or two pages, with your ticks, so you can also pack on paper.
Document rules are set by the Saudi authorities and change from season to season. Check the official Nusuk platform and the Saudi Ministry of Health before you book. The ihram rules come from Sahih al-Bukhari 1542 and 1838 and Qur'an 2:196-197; the Umrah guide lists them with sources.
Frequently asked questions
Is my checklist saved?
Yes, on this device only. Your ticks and your own items are kept in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to Niyat or anyone else. Clearing your browser data, or the Reset button, clears it.
What do men wear in ihram?
Two unstitched sheets: the izar round the waist and the rida' over the shoulders, with sandals that leave the ankles bare. The head stays uncovered. Stitched, fitted clothes such as shirts, trousers and underwear are not worn (Sahih al-Bukhari 1542).
What do women wear in ihram?
Any loose, modest clothes that cover the body, in any colour, with a headscarf. A woman in ihram does not wear a niqab or gloves (Sahih al-Bukhari 1838). Socks and closed shoes are fine.
Which vaccinations are needed for Umrah and Hajj?
Saudi Arabia requires the meningitis ACWY vaccine for pilgrims, and may require others depending on the country you travel from. Rules change each season, so check the Saudi Ministry of Health and your own doctor before you travel.
Can I use soap and shampoo in ihram?
Yes, if it is unscented. Perfume on the body or clothes is not allowed in ihram (Sahih al-Bukhari 1542), so choose unscented soap, shampoo, deodorant and sunscreen.
