Surah 47 of 114 · Madani
سُورَةُ مُحَمَّدٍ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَضَلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaThose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveوَصَدُّوا۟waṣaddūand turn awayعَنʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allahٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of AllahأَضَلَّaḍallaHe will cause to be lostأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allah - He will waste their deeds

2
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَا نُزِّلَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍۢ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۙ كَفَّرَ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَأَصْلَحَ بَالَهُمْ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand doٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsوَءَامَنُوا۟waāmanūand believeبِمَاbimāin whatنُزِّلَnuzzilais revealedعَلَىٰʿalātoمُحَمَّدٍۢmuḥammadinMuhammadوَهُوَwahuwaand itٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truthمِنminfromرَّبِّهِمْ ۙrabbihimtheir LordكَفَّرَkaffaraHe will removeعَنْهُمْʿanhumfrom themسَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْsayyiātihimtheir misdeedsوَأَصْلَحَwa-aṣlaḥaand improveبَالَهُمْbālahumtheir condition
And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition

47:2
3
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّbi-anna(is) becauseٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveٱتَّبَعُوا۟ittabaʿūfollowٱلْبَـٰطِلَl-bāṭilafalsehoodوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveٱتَّبَعُوا۟ittabaʿūfollowٱلْحَقَّl-ḥaqa(the) truthمِنminfromرَّبِّهِمْ ۚrabbihimtheir LordكَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThusيَضْرِبُyaḍribuAllah presentsٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah presentsلِلنَّاسِlilnnāsito the peopleأَمْثَـٰلَهُمْamthālahumtheir similitudes
That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah present to the people their comparisons

47:3
4
فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرْبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلْوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّۢا بَعْدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَآءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَا۟ بَعْضَكُم بِبَعْضٍۢ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن يُضِلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
فَإِذَاfa-idhāSo whenلَقِيتُمُlaqītumuyou meetٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveفَضَرْبَfaḍarbathen strikeٱلرِّقَابِl-riqābithe necksحَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntilإِذَآidhāwhenأَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْathkhantumūhumyou have subdued themفَشُدُّوا۟fashuddūthen bind firmlyٱلْوَثَاقَl-wathāqathe bondفَإِمَّاfa-immāthen eitherمَنًّۢاmannana favorبَعْدُbaʿduafterwardsوَإِمَّاwa-immāorفِدَآءًfidāanransomحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilتَضَعَtaḍaʿalays downٱلْحَرْبُl-ḥarbuthe warأَوْزَارَهَا ۚawzārahāits burdensذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatوَلَوْwalawAnd ifيَشَآءُyashāuAllah had willedٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah had willedلَٱنتَصَرَla-intaṣarasurely, He could have taken retributionمِنْهُمْmin'humfrom themوَلَـٰكِنwalākinbutلِّيَبْلُوَا۟liyabluwāto testبَعْضَكُمbaʿḍakumsome of youبِبَعْضٍۢ ۗbibaʿḍinwith othersوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoقُتِلُوا۟qutilūare killedفِىfīinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allahٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allahفَلَنfalanthen neverيُضِلَّyuḍillaHe will cause to be lostأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. That [is the command]. And if Allah had willed, He could have taken vengeance upon them [Himself], but [He ordered armed struggle] to test some of you by means of others. And those who are killed in the cause of Allah - never will He waste their deeds

47:4
5
سَيَهْدِيهِمْ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَهُمْ
سَيَهْدِيهِمْsayahdīhimHe will guide themوَيُصْلِحُwayuṣ'liḥuand improveبَالَهُمْbālahumtheir condition
He will guide them and amend their condition

6
وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ عَرَّفَهَا لَهُمْ
وَيُدْخِلُهُمُwayud'khiluhumuAnd admit themٱلْجَنَّةَl-janata(to) ParadiseعَرَّفَهَاʿarrafahāHe has made it knownلَهُمْlahumto them
And admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them

47:6
7
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūO you who believeإِنinIfتَنصُرُوا۟tanṣurūyou helpٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَنصُرْكُمْyanṣur'kumHe will help youوَيُثَبِّتْwayuthabbitand make firmأَقْدَامَكُمْaqdāmakumyour feet
O you who have believed, if you support Allah, He will support you and plant firmly your feet

47:7
8
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَعْسًۭا لَّهُمْ وَأَضَلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaBut those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveفَتَعْسًۭاfataʿsandestruction (is)لَّهُمْlahumfor themوَأَضَلَّwa-aḍallaand He will cause to be lostأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
But those who disbelieve - for them is misery, and He will waste their deeds

47:8
9
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because theyكَرِهُوا۟karihūhateمَآmāwhatأَنزَلَanzalaAllah has revealedٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has revealedفَأَحْبَطَfa-aḥbaṭaso He has made worthlessأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
That is because they disliked what Allah revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds

47:9
10
۞ أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْثَـٰلُهَا
۞ أَفَلَمْafalamDo notيَسِيرُوا۟yasīrūthey travelفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthفَيَنظُرُوا۟fayanẓurūand seeكَيْفَkayfahowكَانَkānawasعَـٰقِبَةُʿāqibatu(the) endٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) thoseمِنminbefore themقَبْلِهِمْ ۚqablihimbefore themدَمَّرَdammaraAllah destroyedٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah destroyedعَلَيْهِمْ ۖʿalayhim[over] themوَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَwalil'kāfirīnaand for the disbelieversأَمْثَـٰلُهَاamthāluhāits likeness
Have they not traveled through the land and seen how was the end of those before them? Allah destroyed [everything] over them, and for the disbelievers is something comparable

47:10
11
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوْلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَأَنَّ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَا مَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّbi-anna(is) becauseٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahمَوْلَىmawlā(is the) Protectorٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(of) those whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveوَأَنَّwa-annaand thatٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīnathe disbelievers لَاlā(there is) noمَوْلَىٰmawlāprotectorلَهُمْlahumfor them
That is because Allah is the protector of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector

47:11
12
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدْخِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَتَمَتَّعُونَ وَيَأْكُلُونَ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ وَٱلنَّارُ مَثْوًۭى لَّهُمْ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahيُدْخِلُyud'khiluwill admitٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveوَعَمِلُوا۟waʿamilūand doٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deedsجَنَّـٰتٍۢjannātin(to) Gardensتَجْرِىtajrīflowمِنminfromتَحْتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath itٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖl-anhāruthe riversوَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnabut those whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveيَتَمَتَّعُونَyatamattaʿūnathey enjoyوَيَأْكُلُونَwayakulūnaand eatكَمَاkamāasتَأْكُلُtakulueatٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُl-anʿāmuthe cattleوَٱلنَّارُwal-nāruand the Fireمَثْوًۭىmathwan(will be) an abodeلَّهُمْlahumfor them
Indeed, Allah will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them

47:12
13
وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ هِىَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةًۭ مِّن قَرْيَتِكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَتْكَ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمْ
وَكَأَيِّنwaka-ayyinAnd how manyمِّنminofقَرْيَةٍqaryatina townهِىَhiyawhichأَشَدُّashaddu(was) strongerقُوَّةًۭquwwatan(in) strengthمِّنminthanقَرْيَتِكَqaryatikayour townٱلَّتِىٓallatīwhichأَخْرَجَتْكَakhrajatkahas driven you outأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْahlaknāhumWe destroyed themفَلَاfalāso noنَاصِرَnāṣirahelperلَهُمْlahumfor them
And how many a city was stronger than your city [Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them

47:13
14
أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ كَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُم
أَفَمَنafamanThen is (he) whoكَانَkānaisعَلَىٰʿalāonبَيِّنَةٍۢbayyinatina clear proofمِّنminfromرَّبِّهِۦrabbihihis Lordكَمَنkamanlike (he) whoزُيِّنَzuyyinais made attractiveلَهُۥlahuto himسُوٓءُsūu(the) evilعَمَلِهِۦʿamalihi(of) his deedsوَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟wa-ittabaʿūwhile they followأَهْوَآءَهُمahwāahumtheir desires
So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires

47:14
15
مَّثَلُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى وُعِدَ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَآ أَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّن مَّآءٍ غَيْرِ ءَاسِنٍۢ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّن لَّبَنٍۢ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُۥ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّنْ خَمْرٍۢ لَّذَّةٍۢ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّنْ عَسَلٍۢ مُّصَفًّۭى ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَـٰلِدٌۭ فِى ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَآءً حَمِيمًۭا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَآءَهُمْ
مَّثَلُmathaluA parableٱلْجَنَّةِl-janati(of) Paradiseٱلَّتِىallatīwhichوُعِدَwuʿidais promisedٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖl-mutaqūna(to) the righteousفِيهَآfīhāThereinأَنْهَـٰرٌۭanhārun(are) riversمِّنminofمَّآءٍmāinwaterغَيْرِghayrinotءَاسِنٍۢāsininpollutedوَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭwa-anhārunand riversمِّنminofلَّبَنٍۢlabaninmilkلَّمْlamnotيَتَغَيَّرْyataghayyarchangesطَعْمُهُۥṭaʿmuhuits tasteوَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭwa-anhārunand riversمِّنْminofخَمْرٍۢkhamrinwineلَّذَّةٍۢladhatindeliciousلِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَlilshāribīnafor (the) drinkersوَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭwa-anhārunand riversمِّنْminofعَسَلٍۢʿasalinhoneyمُّصَفًّۭى ۖmuṣaffanpurifiedوَلَهُمْwalahumand for themفِيهَاfīhāthereinمِنminofكُلِّkulliallٱلثَّمَرَٰتِl-thamarātifruitsوَمَغْفِرَةٌۭwamaghfiratunand forgivenessمِّنminfromرَّبِّهِمْ ۖrabbihimtheir Lordكَمَنْkamanlike he whoهُوَhuwalike he whoخَـٰلِدٌۭkhālidun(will) abide foreverفِىfīinٱلنَّارِl-nārithe Fireوَسُقُوا۟wasuqūand they will be given to drinkمَآءًmāanwaterحَمِيمًۭاḥamīmanboilingفَقَطَّعَfaqaṭṭaʿaso it cuts into piecesأَمْعَآءَهُمْamʿāahumtheir intestines
Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord, like [that of] those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines

47:15
16
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا خَرَجُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ
وَمِنْهُمwamin'humAnd among themمَّنman(are some) whoيَسْتَمِعُyastamiʿulistenإِلَيْكَilaykato youحَتَّىٰٓḥattāuntilإِذَاidhāwhenخَرَجُوا۟kharajūthey departمِنْminfromعِندِكَʿindikayouقَالُوا۟qālūthey sayلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoأُوتُوا۟ūtūwere givenٱلْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledgeمَاذَاmādhāWhatقَالَqāla(has) he saidءَانِفًا ۚānifanjust nowأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose ٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the onesطَبَعَṭabaʿaAllah has set a sealٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has set a sealعَلَىٰʿalāuponقُلُوبِهِمْqulūbihimtheir heartsوَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟wa-ittabaʿūand they followأَهْوَآءَهُمْahwāahumtheir desires
And among them, [O Muhammad], are those who listen to you, until when they depart from you, they say to those who were given knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones of whom Allah has sealed over their hearts and who have followed their [own] desires

47:16
17
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ زَادَهُمْ هُدًۭى وَءَاتَىٰهُمْ تَقْوَىٰهُمْ
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those whoٱهْتَدَوْا۟ih'tadawaccept guidanceزَادَهُمْzādahumHe increases themهُدًۭىhudan(in) guidanceوَءَاتَىٰهُمْwaātāhumand gives themتَقْوَىٰهُمْtaqwāhumtheir righteousness
And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness

47:17
18
فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةًۭ ۖ فَقَدْ جَآءَ أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمْ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ ذِكْرَىٰهُمْ
فَهَلْfahalThen doيَنظُرُونَyanẓurūnathey waitإِلَّاillābutٱلسَّاعَةَl-sāʿata(for) the Hourأَنanthatتَأْتِيَهُمtatiyahumit should come to themبَغْتَةًۭ ۖbaghtatansuddenlyفَقَدْfaqadBut indeedجَآءَjāahave comeأَشْرَاطُهَا ۚashrāṭuhāits indicationsفَأَنَّىٰfa-annāThen howلَهُمْlahumto themإِذَاidhāwhenجَآءَتْهُمْjāathumhas come to themذِكْرَىٰهُمْdhik'rāhumtheir reminder
Then do they await except that the Hour should come upon them unexpectedly? But already there have come [some of] its indications. Then what good to them, when it has come, will be their remembrance

47:18
19
فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ
فَٱعْلَمْfa-iʿ'lamSo knowأَنَّهُۥannahuthat [He] لَآlā(there is) noإِلَـٰهَilāhagodإِلَّاillābutٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahوَٱسْتَغْفِرْwa-is'taghfirand ask forgivenessلِذَنۢبِكَlidhanbikafor your sinوَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَwalil'mu'minīnaand for the believing menوَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗwal-mu'minātiand the believing womenوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsمُتَقَلَّبَكُمْmutaqallabakumyour movementوَمَثْوَىٰكُمْwamathwākumand your resting places
So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows of your movement and your resting place

47:19
20
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَتْ سُورَةٌۭ ۖ فَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌۭ مُّحْكَمَةٌۭ وَذُكِرَ فِيهَا ٱلْقِتَالُ ۙ رَأَيْتَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ نَظَرَ ٱلْمَغْشِىِّ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ فَأَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ
وَيَقُولُwayaqūluAnd sayٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieveلَوْلَاlawlāWhy notنُزِّلَتْnuzzilathas been revealedسُورَةٌۭ ۖsūratuna Surahفَإِذَآfa-idhāBut whenأُنزِلَتْunzilatis revealedسُورَةٌۭsūratuna Surahمُّحْكَمَةٌۭmuḥ'kamatunpreciseوَذُكِرَwadhukiraand is mentionedفِيهَاfīhāin itٱلْقِتَالُ ۙl-qitāluthe fightingرَأَيْتَra-aytayou seeٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoفِىfīinقُلُوبِهِمqulūbihimtheir heartsمَّرَضٌۭmaraḍun(is) a diseaseيَنظُرُونَyanẓurūnalookingإِلَيْكَilaykaat you نَظَرَnaẓaraa lookٱلْمَغْشِىِّl-maghshiyi(of) one faintingعَلَيْهِʿalayhi(of) one faintingمِنَminafromٱلْمَوْتِ ۖl-mawtithe deathفَأَوْلَىٰfa-awlāBut more appropriateلَهُمْlahumfor them
Those who believe say, "Why has a surah not been sent down? But when a precise surah is revealed and fighting is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is hypocrisy looking at you with a look of one overcome by death. And more appropriate for them [would have been]

47:20
21
طَاعَةٌۭ وَقَوْلٌۭ مَّعْرُوفٌۭ ۚ فَإِذَا عَزَمَ ٱلْأَمْرُ فَلَوْ صَدَقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَكَانَ خَيْرًۭا لَّهُمْ
طَاعَةٌۭṭāʿatun(Is) obedienceوَقَوْلٌۭwaqawlunand a wordمَّعْرُوفٌۭ ۚmaʿrūfunkindفَإِذَاfa-idhāAnd whenعَزَمَʿazama(is) determinedٱلْأَمْرُl-amruthe matterفَلَوْfalawthen ifصَدَقُوا۟ṣadaqūthey had been trueٱللَّهَl-laha(to) Allahلَكَانَlakānasurely, it would have beenخَيْرًۭاkhayranbetterلَّهُمْlahumfor them
Obedience and good words. And when the matter [of fighting] was determined, if they had been true to Allah, it would have been better for them

47:21
22
فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَن تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟ أَرْحَامَكُمْ
فَهَلْfahalThen wouldعَسَيْتُمْʿasaytumyou perhapsإِنinifتَوَلَّيْتُمْtawallaytumyou are given authorityأَنanthatتُفْسِدُوا۟tuf'sidūyou cause corruptionفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟watuqaṭṭiʿūand cut offأَرْحَامَكُمْarḥāmakumyour ties of kinship
So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship

47:22
23
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمْ وَأَعْمَىٰٓ أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThoseٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(are) the onesلَعَنَهُمُlaʿanahumuAllah has cursed themٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has cursed themفَأَصَمَّهُمْfa-aṣammahumso He made them deafوَأَعْمَىٰٓwa-aʿmāand blindedأَبْصَـٰرَهُمْabṣārahumtheir vision
Those [who do so] are the ones that Allah has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their vision

47:23
24
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَآ
أَفَلَاafalāThen do notيَتَدَبَّرُونَyatadabbarūnathey ponderٱلْقُرْءَانَl-qur'āna(over) the Quranأَمْamorعَلَىٰʿalāuponقُلُوبٍqulūbin(their) heartsأَقْفَالُهَآaqfāluhā(are) locks
Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts

47:24
25
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱرْتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَـٰرِهِم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَى ۙ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ سَوَّلَ لَهُمْ وَأَمْلَىٰ لَهُمْ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoٱرْتَدُّوا۟ir'taddūreturnعَلَىٰٓʿalāonأَدْبَـٰرِهِمadbārihimtheir backsمِّنۢminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmāwhatتَبَيَّنَtabayyana(has) become clearلَهُمُlahumuto themٱلْهُدَى ۙl-hudā(of) the guidanceٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuShaitaanسَوَّلَsawwalaenticedلَهُمْlahum[for] themوَأَمْلَىٰwa-amlāand prolonged hopeلَهُمْlahumfor them
Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them

47:25
26
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ كَرِهُوا۟ مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ سَنُطِيعُكُمْ فِى بَعْضِ ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِسْرَارَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمْbi-annahum(is) because theyقَالُوا۟qālū[they] saidلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoكَرِهُوا۟karihūhateمَاmāwhatنَزَّلَnazzalaAllah has revealedٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah has revealedسَنُطِيعُكُمْsanuṭīʿukumWe will obey youفِىfīinبَعْضِbaʿḍipartٱلْأَمْرِ ۖl-amri(of) the matterوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsإِسْرَارَهُمْis'rārahumtheir secrets
That is because they said to those who disliked what Allah sent down, "We will obey you in part of the matter." And Allah knows what they conceal

47:26
27
فَكَيْفَ إِذَا تَوَفَّتْهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَضْرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ
فَكَيْفَfakayfaThen howإِذَاidhāwhenتَوَفَّتْهُمُtawaffathumutake them in deathٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُl-malāikatuthe Angelsيَضْرِبُونَyaḍribūnastrikingوُجُوهَهُمْwujūhahumtheir facesوَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْwa-adbārahumand their backs
Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs

47:27
28
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَآ أَسْخَطَ ٱللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا۟ رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThatبِأَنَّهُمُbi-annahumu(is) because theyٱتَّبَعُوا۟ittabaʿūfollowedمَآmāwhatأَسْخَطَaskhaṭaangeredٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَكَرِهُوا۟wakarihūand hatedرِضْوَٰنَهُۥriḍ'wānahuHis pleasureفَأَحْبَطَfa-aḥbaṭaso He made worthlessأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
That is because they followed what angered Allah and disliked [what earns] His pleasure, so He rendered worthless their deeds

47:28
29
أَمْ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَن لَّن يُخْرِجَ ٱللَّهُ أَضْغَـٰنَهُمْ
أَمْamOr doحَسِبَḥasibathinkٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoفِىfīinقُلُوبِهِمqulūbihimtheir heartsمَّرَضٌmaraḍun(is) a diseaseأَنanthatلَّنlanneverيُخْرِجَyukh'rijawill Allah bring forthٱللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah bring forthأَضْغَـٰنَهُمْaḍghānahumtheir hatred
Or do those in whose hearts is disease think that Allah would never expose their [feelings of] hatred

47:29
30
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْ فَلَعَرَفْتَهُم بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ ۚ وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ فِى لَحْنِ ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
وَلَوْwalawAnd ifنَشَآءُnashāuWe willedلَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْla-araynākahumsurely, We could show them to youفَلَعَرَفْتَهُمfalaʿaraftahumand you would know themبِسِيمَـٰهُمْ ۚbisīmāhumby their marksوَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْwalataʿrifannahumbut surely, you will know themفِىfībyلَحْنِlaḥni(the) toneٱلْقَوْلِ ۚl-qawli(of their) speechوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allahيَعْلَمُyaʿlamuknowsأَعْمَـٰلَكُمْaʿmālakumyour deeds
And if We willed, We could show them to you, and you would know them by their mark; but you will surely know them by the tone of [their] speech. And Allah knows your deeds

47:30
31
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ حَتَّىٰ نَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ مِنكُمْ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ وَنَبْلُوَا۟ أَخْبَارَكُمْ
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْwalanabluwannakumAnd surely We will test youحَتَّىٰḥattāuntilنَعْلَمَnaʿlamaWe make evidentٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَl-mujāhidīnathose who striveمِنكُمْminkumamong youوَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَwal-ṣābirīnaand the patient onesوَنَبْلُوَا۟wanabluwāand We will testأَخْبَارَكُمْakhbārakumyour affairs
And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah] and the patient, and We will test your affairs

47:31
32
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَشَآقُّوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَن يَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًۭٔا وَسَيُحْبِطُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveوَصَدُّوا۟waṣaddūand turn awayعَنʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) way of Allahٱللَّهِl-lahi(the) way of Allahوَشَآقُّوا۟washāqqūand opposeٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messengerمِنۢminafterبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmā[what]تَبَيَّنَtabayyana(has been) made clearلَهُمُlahumuto themٱلْهُدَىٰl-hudāthe guidanceلَنlanneverيَضُرُّوا۟yaḍurrūwill they harmٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahشَيْـًۭٔاshayan(in) anythingوَسَيُحْبِطُwasayuḥ'biṭuand He will make worthlessأَعْمَـٰلَهُمْaʿmālahumtheir deeds
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and opposed the Messenger after guidance had become clear to them - never will they harm Allah at all, and He will render worthless their deeds

47:32
33
۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَلَا تُبْطِلُوٓا۟ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you who believeٱلَّذِينَalladhīnaO you who believeءَامَنُوٓا۟āmanūO you who believeأَطِيعُوا۟aṭīʿūObeyٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahوَأَطِيعُوا۟wa-aṭīʿūand obeyٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messengerوَلَاwalāand (do) notتُبْطِلُوٓا۟tub'ṭilūmake vainأَعْمَـٰلَكُمْaʿmālakumyour deeds
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds

47:33
34
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌۭ فَلَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ
إِنَّinnaIndeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَفَرُوا۟kafarūdisbelieveوَصَدُّوا۟waṣaddūand turn awayعَنʿanfromسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahثُمَّthummathenمَاتُوا۟mātūdiedوَهُمْwahumwhile theyكُفَّارٌۭkuffārun(were) disbelieversفَلَنfalanneverيَغْفِرَyaghfirawill Allah forgiveٱللَّهُl-lahuwill Allah forgiveلَهُمْlahumthem
Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted [people] from the path of Allah and then died while they were disbelievers - never will Allah forgive them

47:34
35
فَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَتَدْعُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّلْمِ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَكُمْ وَلَن يَتِرَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ
فَلَاfalāSo (do) notتَهِنُوا۟tahinūweakenوَتَدْعُوٓا۟watadʿūand callإِلَىilāforٱلسَّلْمِl-salmipeaceوَأَنتُمُwa-antumuwhile youٱلْأَعْلَوْنَl-aʿlawna(are) superiorوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuand Allahمَعَكُمْmaʿakum(is) with youوَلَنwalanand neverيَتِرَكُمْyatirakumwill deprive youأَعْمَـٰلَكُمْaʿmālakum(of) your deeds
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; and Allah is with you and will never deprive you of [the reward of] your deeds

47:35
36
إِنَّمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌۭ وَلَهْوٌۭ ۚ وَإِن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ يُؤْتِكُمْ أُجُورَكُمْ وَلَا يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ أَمْوَٰلَكُمْ
إِنَّمَاinnamāOnlyٱلْحَيَوٰةُl-ḥayatuthe lifeٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldلَعِبٌۭlaʿibun(is) playوَلَهْوٌۭ ۚwalahwunand amusementوَإِنwa-inAnd ifتُؤْمِنُوا۟tu'minūyou believeوَتَتَّقُوا۟watattaqūand fear (Allah)يُؤْتِكُمْyu'tikumHe will give youأُجُورَكُمْujūrakumyour rewardsوَلَاwalāand notيَسْـَٔلْكُمْyasalkumwill ask youأَمْوَٰلَكُمْamwālakum(for) your wealth
[This] worldly life is only amusement and diversion. And if you believe and fear Allah, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for your properties

47:36
37
إِن يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَا فَيُحْفِكُمْ تَبْخَلُوا۟ وَيُخْرِجْ أَضْغَـٰنَكُمْ
إِنinIfيَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَاyasalkumūhāHe were to ask you for itفَيُحْفِكُمْfayuḥ'fikumand press youتَبْخَلُوا۟tabkhalūyou will withholdوَيُخْرِجْwayukh'rijand He will bring forthأَضْغَـٰنَكُمْaḍghānakumyour hatred
If He should ask you for them and press you, you would withhold, and He would expose your unwillingness

47:37
38
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ تُدْعَوْنَ لِتُنفِقُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَمِنكُم مَّن يَبْخَلُ ۖ وَمَن يَبْخَلْ فَإِنَّمَا يَبْخَلُ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلْغَنِىُّ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚ وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ يَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُونُوٓا۟ أَمْثَـٰلَكُم
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْhāantumHere you are هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāitheseتُدْعَوْنَtud'ʿawnacalledلِتُنفِقُوا۟litunfiqūto spendفِىfīinسَبِيلِsabīli(the) wayٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah فَمِنكُمfaminkumbut among youمَّنman(are some) whoيَبْخَلُ ۖyabkhaluwithholdوَمَنwamanand whoeverيَبْخَلْyabkhalwithholdsفَإِنَّمَاfa-innamāthen onlyيَبْخَلُyabkhaluhe withholdsعَنʿanfromنَّفْسِهِۦ ۚnafsihihimselfوَٱللَّهُwal-lahuBut Allahٱلْغَنِىُّl-ghaniyu(is) Free of needوَأَنتُمُwa-antumuwhile youٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚl-fuqarāu(are) the needyوَإِنwa-inAnd ifتَتَوَلَّوْا۟tatawallawyou turn awayيَسْتَبْدِلْyastabdilHe will replace youقَوْمًاqawman(with) a peopleغَيْرَكُمْghayrakumother than youثُمَّthummathenلَاlānotيَكُونُوٓا۟yakūnūthey will beأَمْثَـٰلَكُمamthālakum(the) likes of you
Here you are - those invited to spend in the cause of Allah - but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allah is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you

47:38
