Ramadan 1448 AH explained: the expected start and end, the key dates inside the month, why every date carries a moon-sighting caveat, and the timetables worth bookmarking now.
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027 — 1 Ramadan 1448 AH in the Islamic calendar — with the month beginning the evening before, Sunday 7 February, and the first fast commonly kept on the Monday. The month is expected to run 29 days, ending at sunset on Monday 8 March 2027, with Eid al-Fitr expected on Tuesday 9 March. Every date on this page is an astronomical estimate: moon sighting can shift the start and end by a day, so keep one flexible day on each side when you plan.
Those are the Umm al-Qura estimates — the same calculation behind our Hijri calendar converter and the same dates our Ramadan hub uses for its city timetables. Here is what is expected, why, and what to line up before the month arrives.
| Moment | Expected date | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Month begins | Evening of Sunday 7 February 2027 | The Islamic day starts at sunset, so 1 Ramadan begins the night before the Gregorian date shown. |
| First fast | Monday 8 February 2027 | 1 Ramadan 1448 AH (Umm al-Qura). Communities that rely on physical sighting may begin Tuesday 9 February. |
| Last ten nights begin | Evening of Saturday 27 February 2027 | Start of the 21st night. |
| Laylat al-Qadr (27th night) | Sunset Friday 5 March to dawn Saturday 6 March 2027 | Expected within the last ten nights; many observe the 27th. |
| Last fast, month ends | Monday 8 March 2027 | Expected 29-day month; the month ends at sunset that evening. |
| Eid al-Fitr | Tuesday 9 March 2027 | 1 Shawwal 1448 AH. |
All dates are Umm al-Qura estimates and carry the same ±1 day moon-sighting uncertainty. Shift the whole set by a day if your community starts Ramadan a day later.
This date is set by the Islamic lunar calendar, not the Gregorian one. Ramadan is the ninth month of the twelve Hijri months, and each Hijri month runs 29 or 30 days, beginning with the birth of the new moon. Twelve lunar months make a year of 354 or 355 days — about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year — so the same Islamic date lands about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.
The Gregorian date shown is the Umm al-Qura calculation: the official Islamic calendar of Saudi Arabia, built from astronomical calculation of the new moon. Other communities wait for the new crescent to be seen with the eye, or follow a different country's announcement — so the day your community actually observes can sit a day either side of the estimate.
The month begins when the Ramadan crescent is calculated (or seen) after Sha'ban completes 29 or 30 days. By the Umm al-Qura estimate, Sha'ban 1448 runs 30 days, so 1 Ramadan falls on Monday 8 February 2027 with fasting commonly beginning that day. Plan travel, leave, and qada fasts with one flexible day on each side.
The same Hijri date, three cycles running. Because the lunar year runs about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian one, each Ramadan lands earlier in the Gregorian calendar:
| Cycle | Ramadan begins | Eid al-Fitr |
|---|---|---|
| 1447 AH | On or around 18 February 2026 | On or around 20 March 2026 |
| 1448 AH (2027) | Expected Monday 8 February 2027 | Expected Tuesday 9 March 2027 |
| 1449 AH | Expected 28 January 2028 | Expected 26 February 2028 |
Reading about dates is one thing; fasting to a clock is another. Our Ramadan hub publishes full Ramadan 2027 timetables for 251 cities — the daily suhoor-end time (calculated Fajr) and iftar time (calculated Maghrib) for every day of the month, with a fast-length column so you can see how the fasts lengthen as the month goes on.
Every city timetable includes 7 February through 10 March 2027, covering a day either side of the expected Ramadan dates, and day numbers assume the 8 February start. A few examples: London, New York City, and Dubai — the hub covers the rest, from Toronto to Karachi to Jakarta.
