Qur’an verses about justice

Stand firm for justice even against yourself, your parents, or a people you hate. The Qur’an's standard of fairness.

· 6 ayat

Justice is set in the Qur’an as the purpose of the messengers and the balance they brought. Believers are told to stand firm for it even when it falls against themselves, their parents or their relatives, and not to let hatred of a people stop them from being just. Each verse is shown in Arabic with the Saheeh International translation and a short note on what it says.

The verses

1. Surah An-Nisa (4:135)

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.

Stand firm in justice as witnesses for Allah, even against yourselves, your parents or relatives, rich or poor.

5. Surah Al-Hadid (57:25)

We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people, and so that Allah may make evident those who support Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

The messengers were sent with the Scripture and the balance so that people may uphold justice.

6. Surah Al-Hujurat (49:9)

And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.

When two groups of believers fight, make peace between them with justice; Allah loves those who act justly.
