The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), used by ISNA and many major US mosques, relies on pre-calculated astronomical criteria and announces the date weeks in advance. Other US communities, including local moon-sighting committees and some Shia organizations, wait for an actual crescent sighting; in both 1446 and 1447 these groups reported the same date as FCNA. The FCNA/ISNA date is recorded here as canonical since it is the most widely followed and cited in US media.
