Ghana's National Chief Imam and National Hilal Committee sight the moon locally rather than following Saudi Arabia's announcement; the Chief Imam has said every country should use its own first sighting. In 2025 the crescent was seen in the Upper West, Ashanti and Savannah regions confirming a March 1 start; in 2026 the Hilal Committee confirmed a February 19 start after sighting the crescent the evening before.
