Prayer times in London

The calculation method, the Asr question, and how to get London’s times right — without guessing.

No live clock here. Prayer times shift daily with the sun, so this page stays evergreen. Use it to set the right method for London, then trust a live-calculating app for today’s schedule.
Muslim World League (18° / 17°) Asr: Mixed

Calculation method

Fajr 18°, Isha 17° is common, but London mosques differ: some use Umm al-Qura, some the 18.5° angle. There is no single agreed convention.

Asr (madhab)

Both exist. The major Hanafi mosques (East London Mosque, others) follow Asr at twice the shadow length; others use Shafi’i.

Local context

London is above 48° latitude, where summer twilight never fully fades. Mosques adopt one of several high-latitude rules for Fajr and Isha in midsummer — ask your mosque which it uses.

Setting it up

  1. Open your prayer-time app and pick London (or let it use your GPS).
  2. Set the calculation method to Muslim World League (18° / 17°).
  3. Choose the Asr convention your mosque uses — here, typically Mixed.
  4. Compare one day’s Fajr and Maghrib against your mosque’s adhan; if they’re within a minute or two, you’re set.
