Quran Verses About Sleep

Sleep in the Quran is counted as a sign and a mercy — a covering night, souls taken and returned, and beds left for prayer in the small hours.

The Quran mentions sleep the way it mentions rain and stars: as something made, given, and accounted for. Night is called a covering, sleep is called rest, and the whole rhythm of waking and sleeping is listed among the signs of Allah. Two verses go further and describe what happens at the edge of sleep — souls taken for the night and returned for a term — while others praise people whose beds see little of them. The Arabic and translations below are pulled at build time from Niyat's verified Quran text files, and checked byte-for-byte against them. A supplication recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari for lying down to sleep is linked at the end.
