Quran Verses About Gratitude

Shukr in the Quran — remembrance repaid with remembrance, increase tied to thanks, and a refrain that asks which favor could ever be denied.

Gratitude in the Quran is wider than saying thank you. The Book counts what a person has been given — hearing, sight, a heart that works, provision that arrived without their power — and then asks for thanks in return. It ties gratitude to increase, joins it to remembrance, and makes it a reason punishment is held back. The verses on this page are loaded directly from Niyat's verified Quran text files, so the Arabic and the translation are exactly what stands in the source. Each card adds a short note on the setting of the verse and a link to read it in context. Gratitude here is not a mood; it is a discipline of noticing.

1. Surah Al-Baqarah (2:152)

Translation. So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.

Remembrance and gratitude are joined in a single sentence of Al-Baqarah: 'remember Me and I will remember you.'

2. Surah Ibrahim (14:7)

Translation. And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.' "

4. Surah Luqman (31:12)

Translation. And We had certainly given Luqman wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allah." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.

The opening of Luqman's counsel to his son names thankfulness to Allah as the foundation of wisdom — while noting that thanks benefits the thankful one.
