Quran Verses About Forgiveness

Tawbah in the Quran — sins forgiven without exception for those who turn, wrongs exchanged for good, and a door the Book never shows closing.

The Quran returns to forgiveness more often than almost any other theme. It addresses people who have wronged themselves first, before it addresses anyone else, and it asks a question that sounds strange until it lands: who would despair of the mercy of his Lord? The seven ayat collected here trace the full arc — the call to turn, the character of those who repent after falling, the transformation of the record, and the love the Quran says repentance draws. Arabic and translation are loaded programmatically from Niyat's verified Quran text files; the build checks every rendered verse against the source byte-for-byte. Each card links to quran.com so you can read the verse inside its surah.

1. Surah Az-Zumar (39:53)

Translation. Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."

A passage of Az-Zumar addressed to servants who have wronged themselves: Allah forgives all sins, and His mercy is not to be despaired of.

2. Surah An-Nisa (4:110)

Translation. And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

3. Surah At-Tahrim (66:8)

Translation. O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent."

At-Tahrim calls believers to sincere repentance — a turning of the whole self, not only words — with the promise that evil deeds will be covered.

Translation. And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.

Translation. And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."

Translation. Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

Translation. And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.

Hud ties prayer at the two ends of the day and good deeds to what removes misdeeds — a constant rhythm rather than a single rescue.
